Chapter 635: Chapter 635: Yin Mo Severely Injured
Meng Jun and Gu Chenn swiftly came to Li Qiao’s side, protecting her between them, one on the left and the other on the right.
The bullet grazed her shoulder and struck the wall; it wasn’t a miss but deliberate.
How could the marksmanship of hired mercenaries be anything but precise, especially since an emergency light had already lit up at the corner of the hallway?
There was only one possibility, they didn’t intend to kill her.
Li Qiao turned her head towards the direction from which the bullet came—it was from a suite at the end of the corridor.
She didn’t hesitate and walked over.
Meng Jun reached out to stop her and pressed his ear, asking into the communicator, "How many people?"
Without waiting for an answer, the doors of three suites burst open, and shadowy figures could be seen rushing out from the dim light.
A quick observation revealed there were more than ten people.
Meng Jun sneered coldly, pulling Li Qiao behind him, and quickly arranged, "The left side is yours."
Gu Chenn cracked his neck, dug his toes into the ground, and leapt out.
No one present was a pushover.
The two struck at the same time, instantly engaging the group of hired mercenaries in a fight.
Meanwhile, Li Qiao stood still, staying in place, feeling the object at the back of her head, and chuckled lightly, "You really are quite earnest."
The back of her head was up against a pitch-black gun muzzle.
The person holding the gun, Yin Mo.
While Meng Jun and Gu Chenn were still fighting those mercenaries, Li Qiao stood all alone in the hallway, her expression indifferent, showing neither sadness nor joy.
"Come with me, and I won’t hurt you."
The tone of Yin Mo seemed forever without fluctuation, even if her eyes showed a hint of turmoil, it was veiled by the dark light.
Li Qiao, ignoring the gun in her hand, casually leaned against the windowsill, and with an air of nonchalance said, "Make a noise in the east, then strike in the west; the mercenaries are just a distraction, you actually want to take me away?"
Yin Mo clenched the grip of her gun tightly, her breathing slightly heavy, "It’s all true, the mercenaries are just to break me out and then cover me."
Li Qiao laughed, remembering how Yin Mo had been detained by Gu Chenn before; no wonder she was released so quickly, "Big Sister, you really don’t need to tell me all this."
"I won’t hurt you."
Li Qiao turned back, relying on the faint light to look at the trembling gun muzzle, "That is if I agree to go with you?"
Yin Mo pointed the gun at Li Qiao’s temple with one hand, and with the other tried to grab her wrist, "Don’t struggle, or it will be unpleasant for both of us."
"And if I don’t?" Li Qiao twisted her hand and seized Yin Mo’s action.
Yin Mo looked down at their clasped palms and asked with an unclear meaning, "Do you still remember what I told you?"
"Which sentence?" Li Qiao lifted her lips and countered, her eyes brimming with deep meaning.
Yin Mo swallowed, her peripheral vision stealthily scanning the doors of the suites, while the sounds of the physical fight continued relentlessly in the hallway.
But they were just standing at the door of the suite, clearly able to hear the sound of the door lock being opened.
As the door cracked open slightly, Yin Mo’s gun-wielding hand slowly chambered a round.
In an instant, two muffled thuds from the silenced gun exploded beside her ears, and bright red blood splattered out.
Li Qiao’s words were stopped at her lips, her face splashed with a few drops of blood—it was Yin Mo’s blood.
And before her eyes, Yin Mo had been shot twice, in the wrist and upper arm.
If she had not been Yin Mo, if Shang Yu hadn’t seen her face, those two shots might have very likely entered her temples.
At this moment, malevolence brimmed in Shang Yu’s eyes as he strode to Li Qiao’s side, holding the golden Desert Eagle, pressing it against Yin Mo’s head, his words deliberate and permeated with a deadly aura, "Looking to die?"
Yin Mo faced the barrel of the gun without flinching, the severe pain making her look bewildered, but a tinge of relief-like smile flickered through the turbulence in her eyes.
She watched Shang Yu pull the trigger, her gaze lingering on Li Qiao with affection.
If she could die here, that wouldn’t be so bad.
The moment the trigger was pulled, a man’s wrist was held down. Li Qiao, looking calmly at Yin Mo, whispered in a low voice, "Go back and tell Xiao Yehui, if he wants to kill me, he should come himself."
Yin Mo cast her eyes downward, clutching her arm, staggering as she disappeared into the night.
Not long after she left, the lights in the corridor came back on, revealing a host of mercenaries that had been dealt with by Meng Jun and Gu Chenn lying on the floor.
Both of them were wounded and were gasping for breath against the wall.
Especially Gu Chenn, who, because a tuft of long hair on top of his head had not been tied up, lost a few strands in the fight, making his hair even more worrisome.
Li Qiao still stared in the direction where Yin Mo had vanished, lost in thought, her left hand clenched into a fist, her brows and eyelashes still dotted with drops of fresh blood.
A layer of gloomy darkness spread across the depths of Shang Yu’s eyes, his nostrils flaring, his body radiating ferocious and brutal energy.
The man’s cape was nowhere to be seen. He looked down at Li Qiao’s grip on his wrist, his voice as tense as drawn strings, "She wanted to kill you, and you didn’t dodge?"
Li Qiao closed her eyes and sighed, her left hand sliding into her pocket. She stooped to pick up the gun that Yin Mo had dropped, whispering in a voice only the two of them could hear, "There’s no magazine, how could she kill me."
A storm surged in Shang Yu’s cold eyes for an instant. His jawline stiffened as he tossed the Desert Eagle onto the windowsill, took Li Qiao by the back of the neck, and raised his hand to wipe the blood from her forehead.
He didn’t speak a word, and his movements held some roughness. The half-dry bloodstains were not so easily wiped away, in fact they left Li Qiao’s skin reddened.
The man yanked her wrist and turned to walk into the suite.
Outside in the corridor, Gu Chenn bent over, supporting his knees, constantly trying to stabilize his breathing. Though he did not understand the specific situation, something had definitely happened just now.
"What’s going on? Did someone get away?"
Both of them had just been grappling with a dozen mercenaries, Li Qiao should have been safe under their protection.
Meng Jun glanced toward the other side of the corridor, his face particularly ugly, "Alright, I know. Detain her for now, and wait for my notice."
Gu Chenn, puzzled, tilted his head for a closer look, only to realize there was a tiny communicator in Meng Jun’s ear.
At that moment, Meng Jun straightened up, took a deep breath, and said darkly, "Among the mercenaries, there’s a computer whiz who hacked into the surveillance at the hotel’s emergency exit entrance, copying ten minutes of surveillance footage."
"Damn!" Gu Chenn’s face changed drastically, "Then when we were taking care of these mercenaries, Li Qiao ..."
The emergency exit was located just behind where Li Qiao had been.
Without waiting for Meng Jun’s answer, Gu Chenn asked again, "You didn’t have someone guarding the emergency exit?"
That area was a blind spot for surveillance, could they afford such an oversight?
Meng Jun swept a cold glance at him, "Assigning Black Hawk Members to guard the emergency exit is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut."
Gu Chenn was dumbfounded and had no reply.
In an instant, the two men exchanged glances and moved toward the emergency exit in unison.
Pushing open the heavy emergency door, the motion-sensor light instantly lit up.
Gu Chenn and Meng Jun looked at the six dead bodies of mercenaries on the floor with peculiar expressions, baffled by what they saw.
"Did you take care of them?"
At the sound, Meng Jun stepped forward, gave a few brief glances, and said somewhat gruffly, "No. When the surveillance was hacked, there was no detection of them, so they must have been ambushing here for a while."
