Chapter 586: Do Not Disturb Miss Qi

Chapter 586: Chapter 586: Do Not Disturb Miss Qi

Li Qiao flicked her hand, flinging the empty beer can towards the switch by the door, and with a click, the light came on, the sudden illumination making her squint uncomfortably.

Through the lens, Shang Yu looked at her tipsy cheeks, his thick eyebrows arched slightly, "What did you do at the headquarters?"

Taking a couple of sips of beer, Li Qiao said with profound meaning, "Confirmed something."

The man’s thin lips parted slightly, his voice, moistened by the alcohol, becoming even more mellow, "Not happy?"

"I wouldn’t say that," Li Qiao smoothed out her brow as she shifted her gaze to the pitch-black night, "I actually guessed it already."

She wasn’t going to dwell on Yin Mo’s business, since she couldn’t change certain established facts. Thinking too much was just self-imposed distress.

On the other end of the video, Shang Yu took a few sips, then looked back at Li Qiao and asked in a deep voice, "Did you take Luoyu with you when you went out?"

"Of course." Li Qiao pursed her lips with a smile, glanced at the time, and got ready to end the call, "Don’t worry about me, it’s late, you should go to sleep early. I’ll return to South Sea after I finish the job, it shouldn’t take more than three days."

The man’s Adam’s apple moved as he spoke with a deep and meaningful tone, "Alright, wait for me at ease."

Li Qiao thought he meant for her to wait for him at ease in South Sea, agreed, and then hung up the call.

On the other side, at Parma’s old mansion.

Shang Yu put down his phone, tilted his head back, and drained the whiskey in his glass.

At that moment, sitting sideways across from him was Shang Zonghai, holding an ancient medical book. He casually flipped through it, sidelong glancing at the man, "You shouldn’t have let her go to the border alone, that lawless region is the most prone to trouble."

Shang Yu pursed his thin lips and tapped his fingertips on the table, "When do you plan to give her all the translated documents?"

"What?" Shang Zonghai raised his eyebrows in surprise, a sharp light hidden in his eyes, "Is the girl getting impatient?"

The man’s eyes, profound, looked steadily at him, and he said, smiling, "Have you gone to all this trouble just to see her anxious?"

Shang Zonghai snorted coldly, "What do you know, come on, tell me, what does she feel about the contents of the letters now?"

"What feelings do you need when looking at someone else’s story?"

Shang Zonghai furrowed his brows, father and son locking gazes, and after a long pause, he finally sighed, "Alright, take another twenty pages with you when you go back this time."

The man poured himself half a glass of whiskey, dropped in some ice cubes, and gave it a gentle swirl, "Forty pages."

Shang Zonghai narrowed his eyes, started to haggle, "There’s only sixty pages left in total, I can give you at most thirty pages."

Shang Yu’s eyes twinkled with mirth as he looked down, accepting, "Okay."

...

The following day, in the early light of dawn, a thin mist enveloped the border skies.

Li Qiao walked out of the dormitory, stood in front of the empty parade ground, and rubbed her neck. When she looked back, she saw Ah Chang returning from his run outside.

With a sheen of sweat on his forehead, he used the hem of his T-shirt to wipe his face, "Miss Qi, are you heading out?"

Li Qiao glanced at the time on her phone and replied indifferently, "Yes, give me the car keys, I need to make a trip."

Without saying another word, Ah Chang took the car keys out of his pocket and handed them to her.

Just then, as a black SUV left the factory gates, several muscular men approached from a distance, scanning their surroundings. Spotting Ah Chang, they ran over excitedly, "Brother Chang, has Miss Qi come back?"

Some people had claimed to have seen Li Qiao in the factory office yesterday.

They hadn’t believed it until now, certain only at this moment that she really had returned, especially since Ah Chang was Miss Qi’s trusted confidant.

Looking at their excited expressions, Ah Chang nodded slightly, "Miss Qi is back to take care of business, don’t bother her."

Hearing this, the burly men instantly deflated, "Ah?"

Ah Chang said nothing more, nodding in acknowledgment before entering the dormitory building.

...

By midday, approaching eleven o’clock, Li Qiao returned in the SUV.

When she got out of the car, she still had a layer of dampness on her, and the wisps of hair by her ears clung to her cheeks, adding a touch of disheveled coolness.

Upon hearing the news, Luoyu hurried to the parking lot and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that Li Qiao was safe and sound, "Miss Li, sorry, I overslept."

She had gotten up before seven o’clock and only found out that Li Qiao had left on her own at six-thirty when she went to the dormitory to look for her.

Li Qiao dusted off her sleeves, "It’s not late, I just got up early to take care of some things."

With that, she headed straight for the office building in the distance and upon entering, she bumped into the hurried Nan Xin.

"Baby, where have you been, why is your clothes all wet?"

Li Qiao looked down at herself and, instead of answering, she asked back, "What’s the rush?"

Nan Xin’s eyes brightened, and she quickly explained, "A partner said they want to come over this afternoon to renegotiate the cooperation, and I don’t know what’s going on. They were the first to cancel their orders, and now it seems like they’ve changed their minds."

"Oh," Li Qiao responded indifferently and raised her eyebrows slightly, "Which one?"

Nan Xin spoke frankly, "201 Mix Group."

Li Qiao nodded in understanding and didn’t say anything.

For lunch, Li Qiao didn’t go to the cafeteria but had a simple meal in the office instead.

Since coming to the factory yesterday, she had spent most of her time in the office except for returning to her dormitory, rarely going out—purely for some peace and quiet.

...

Time flew by, and it was three o’clock in the afternoon.

Li Qiao had taken a nap on the couch, and when she woke up and checked the time, she lazily shuffled out of the office.

In the corridor outside, Luoyu and Ah Chang were leaning against the windowsill, chatting idly about something.

When they saw her coming out, both of them immediately called out, "Miss Li."

Li Qiao gave a nod, took a couple of steps forward, then paused and turned back to look at Luoyu, "Today I’m not going out. There’s an underground market on the southern border; you can check it out if you’re free."

Luoyu smiled awkwardly and nodded, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Her duty was to follow Miss Li. If she went off on her own to the market, could she still live if the boss found out?

Seeing her silent with a smile, Li Qiao tugged at the corner of her mouth but didn’t say more, walking leisurely downstairs.

Outside the office building, there were three Hummers parked at this time.

When Li Qiao reached the staircase, she suddenly saw those vehicles and furrowed her brows inadvertently—why haven’t they left yet?

As she was thinking, the door to the meeting room on the left-hand side of the corridor was opened, followed by a burst of conversation.

"Mr. Sang, you aren’t planning to return the goods again this time, are you?"

The question came from Nan Xin.

"Of course not. Previously it was a mistake on the part of my subordinates. I truly apologize," the other party said, expressing their superficial regret.

Even though they said that, it seems you must have forgotten that you personally signed the initial return order.

Everyone is clever, and some things are understood without being said aloud.

"Then, we wish for a pleasant cooperation." Nan Xin smiled and shook hands with the other party in agreement.

Mr. Sang slicked back his greased hair and, accompanied by his four subordinates, started walking toward the exit of the hall.

On the steps, Li Qiao heard their conversation and turned around, intending to go back to her office.

But Mr. Sang moved quickly and, upon nearing the stairs, caught a glimpse from the corner of his eye of that slender black figure.
