Chapter 500: Chapter 500: You Are Where My Heart Belongs
After all, it was in the middle of the street, so Shang Yu restrained himself and kissed her for half a minute before releasing Li Qiao’s lips.
The man stood tall and handsome, dressed in a black shirt and trousers, he stood out among the passersby, looking even more striking and distinguished.
The girl was delicate yet rebellious, and even in a simple black short sleeve, she couldn’t hide her vibrant elegance.
Behind Shang Yu stood three assistants, each of them staring slack-jawed at the confession screen. The Double Seven Festival was already torturous for single folks, but with Miss Li’s move, was she trying to annihilate all the single dogs in the world?
At this moment, the man was holding Li Qiao by the waist and lifted his eyelids to look at the screen behind her. Holding her face in one hand, his Adam’s apple moved as he spoke in an extremely husky voice, "When did you prepare all this?"
Li Qiao raised her head from his chest, arching her eyebrows with a smile in her eyes, "While you were in a meeting."
"Mmm." The man cradled the back of her head, his lips pressed against her forehead, his voice husky, "Remember what day it is today?"
Li Qiao reached up to tug at the collar of his shirt, "Of course I remember. It’s our first Valentine’s Day together, how could I forget?"
There’s no denying that such a public declaration would inflate any woman’s vanity.
But he was a man, he was Shang Shaoyan. Accomplished and renowned at a young age, he had already outgrown wrapping himself in vanity.
Yet, everything tonight still touched the softest part of his heart.
Because it was a confession from Li Qiao to him, more satisfying and pleasing than any verbal expression of like.
It didn’t take long before the man led her to the underground parking garage. Holding hands, they walked ahead while the three assistants trailed behind at a sorrowful distance, resigned to their fate.
In the car, Shang Yu wrapped his arm around Li Qiao’s shoulders, his fingers caressing the strands of hair behind her ear, "Just over two hours, and you prepared all this?"
Li Qiao’s eyes flickered. She didn’t say much, just hummed in acknowledgment, watching as the car left the underground garage. She then turned her head to ask, "Where are we going now?"
"To eat." The man glanced at her fair cheek, his thin lips curling into a faint arc.
Li Qiao understood, and lazily leaned against his shoulder, her gaze falling outside the window, her lips slowly curling up in a place he couldn’t see.
The drive took less than ten minutes, the light purple city lights gradually changing to lake blue.
Every few buildings along the main streets had advertisement screens, so Liuyun, who was driving, was the first to notice the change in the color tones outside.
"Boss..." he murmured, and as they drove past a shopping mall, the lake blue light shone undeniably into everyone’s eyes.
The confession screen’s message changed: "You are where my heart belongs. — Shang Shaoyan, Happy Valentine’s Day."
Wherever they went, a wash of blue light and effects.
It was later known that each segment of the confession would play for half an hour, all the way until midnight.
This meant that, as long as they were in the city, they could see the confession screens Li Qiao had prepared for Shang Yu everywhere.
And the content was all different.
Even a man as stoic as Shang Yu, when faced with such an unabashed city-wide confession, could not possibly remain indifferent.
What’s more, Li Qiao had done it for him.
...
At the upscale restaurant, when the two of them got out of the car in front of the door, an advertisement screen happened to be opposite them on the street.
With the lights changing once again, Shang Yu saw this sentence: "Upon seeing a gentleman, why wouldn’t one be delighted? — Shang Shaoyan, Happy Valentine’s Day."
This was the first time Li Qiao had clearly expressed her fondness for him in writing.
Shang Yu stood under the silvery light, his whole being aglow, but not as brilliant as the deep hues in his eyes.
The man said nothing, but turned to look at Li Qiao beside him.
The girl’s eyes reflected the dazzling lights, she turned to meet his gaze, open and without a trace of shyness.
She liked him, and after tonight, everyone would know.
Shang Yu took her hand, holding it tightly, even though he appeared calm, his tensed outline still revealed that he wasn’t that calm.
The restaurant was empty.
Li Qiao followed the man at an unhurried pace, and when she looked up, she saw candles still burning on a table near the scenic window.
Candlelit dinner.
And he had reserved the entire place.
She looked at the man beside her, remembering that when she had gone to his company to find him that afternoon, he was in a meeting.
She had thought that he was too busy to make time for these preparations.
Shang Yu noticed her gaze, turned his head to meet her eyes, then led her to the table and pulled out a chair for her in a very gentlemanly fashion.
Li Qiao took her seat and looked down at her attire, a T-shirt and jeans, which seemed a bit casual.
Had she known she would have a candlelit dinner in such an upscale Western restaurant, she would have worn a dress.
As she was thinking this, a scent of flowers drifted over.
Li Qiao’s vision blurred for a moment as a bunch of fiery-red, dew-kissed roses was handed to her by the man.
He stood behind her, placed the flowers in front of her, leaned down to kiss the top of her head, and said huskily, "Be good, happy Valentine’s Day."
Outside the window was "Having seen the gentleman, how could one not delight," while inside the restaurant, he held fiery-red roses and wished her a happy Valentine’s Day.
This was the first time he had given her roses.
In essence, they were the same kind of people, cold and lukewarm, low-profile, and understated.
So two such people often expressed what was in their hearts and minds in their own ways.
They did not easily express liking each other, but their every action was a trace of love.
...
After dinner, Li Qiao rested her chin on her hand, looking at Shang Yu across the table, tapped her fingers on the table, and suggested, "Go watch a movie?"
They had been together for so long, yet they had never watched a movie together.
Many things that normal couples would do, she and Shang Yu had mostly not tried.
At the moment the words fell, the man took a sip of red wine, his deep eyes swept with a thin smile, and his thick eyebrows slightly lifted, "Did you know I booked the cinema?"
Li Qiao licked the corners of her mouth, looked straight into his eyes, and curved her lips into a slow smile, shaking her head, "I didn’t know, because I booked it too..."
Shang Yu’s deep gaze became increasingly rich with laughter, "Besides that, what else have you prepared?"
He remembered that when he had asked her earlier, she had given a perfunctory response.
He had thought that the city-wide proclamation was the limit, but her demeanor now suggested it might not be so simple.
Li Qiao tilted her head, her fingers pinching the napkin and gently kneading it, "If I tell the surprise in advance, would it still be a surprise?"
The man’s laughter spilled from his lips, and he stood up to come in front of her, lifted her chin, and dropped a kiss on the corner of her mouth, "Then I’ll wait, okay?"
"Let’s go, to the movies."
Li Qiao kissed him back and they walked out of the Western restaurant together, while the bunch of fresh flowers was held emotionlessly in Luoyu’s arms.
This sweet and honeyed Valentine’s Day was indeed unforgettable.
Because at the approach of midnight, the whole South Sea City finally learned who was behind the city-wide proclamation of love.
The last caption had no excess of flowery language, just two names with a heart between them.
Those were Li Qiao and Shang Shaoyan.
