Chapter 485: Chapter 485: Su Lao Si Saved My Life
Li Qiao whispered a few more words to him, then leaned over to pick up his cell phone from the table. "Did you not see the WeChat message I sent you?"
"Hmm." The man leaned against the armrest of the sofa, his deep-set eyes lingering on her profile, brimming with undisguised tenderness.
Li Qiao handed him the phone, pouted, and said, "Then take a look."
Shang Yu unlocked his phone and opened WeChat to see her chat window. After reading what was inside, his thin lips curved upward slightly. "Planning to introduce me to him?"
"Of course, you’re my boyfriend, not someone to hide." Li Qiao responded without a second thought, but quickly she remembered something else.
Looking at the man, she subtly raised her eyebrows. "Did you see us hugging in front of the hotel earlier?"
What she wanted to ask even more was, if he had seen them, why didn’t he get out of the car and say hello.
At that moment, Shang Yu looked down at his phone, then glanced at Li Qiao. "No."
"Then..."
Before she could finish, she saw that he was handing the phone over to her.
Li Qiao was somewhat puzzled as she took the phone and glanced at it. He Chen’s WeChat chat box was right there in plain sight.
She looked at the surveillance photo expressionlessly, and her finger unconsciously pressed on the two-second voice message: "Have you been cuckolded?"
Li Qiao: "..."
He really was Shang Yu’s good brother.
Li Qiao put the phone down and quietly made a mental note to remember He Chen’s deed—it wasn’t significant, but she was petty.
If not for his "Have you been cuckolded?" Shang Yu probably wouldn’t be in such an abnormal state.
Being naturally insecure, coupled with witnessing her embrace with someone else, it was inevitable that he’d experience some emotional turmoil.
Li Qiao’s gaze drifted unfocused to a spot in the distance as she pondered how to give He Chen a bit of trouble.
Suddenly, her chin was pulled down, and her cheek was being turned by the man.
Li Qiao unconsciously lowered her lashes, her gaze settling on the back of his hand. "What happened to your hand?"
Earlier, when they were being affectionate, she was so focused on clearing up the misunderstanding that she hadn’t noticed the anomaly on his fingers.
Now, looking at them closely, the joints of the man’s hands were red and swollen, some places even had the skin rubbed raw.
"Did you... have a fight just now?" She remembered Luoyu saying that he went to the training room in the Mansion’s basement after he returned.
The man watched her hold his hand, his thin lips curving into a faint smile as he spoke casually, "Just boxing."
Li Qiao hesitated, saying nothing.
He was jealous and had a grudge in his heart, yet didn’t want her to pick up on anything.
So he chose boxing to vent, not even checking calls and messages, probably afraid of losing control.
Li Qiao suddenly sighed, lips pursed, and released his hand, standing up from the sofa. "Wait for me a moment."
As she was about to leave, her wrist was suddenly seized by the man, his brows slightly furrowed. "Where are you going?"
"To get something from the car."
Shang Yu looked up at her, his gaze tracing her outline, fell silent, then seemed to compromise as he responded with a deep voice, "Go and come back quickly."
Li Qiao acknowledged and went out the door; in fact, she just went to the parking platform.
Her Maybach was still parked at the Mansion, and the Special Grade Medicine for external injuries, which she originally planned to give to Shang Yu, was still in the storage box.
It took her less than three minutes to return.
The man was sitting on the sofa, smoking, with faint wisps of smoke scattering around him. The dim lighting failed to add warmth to the room, instead giving off a sense of loneliness in the vast and quiet living room.
Li Qiao tossed five tubes of ointment on the table, then pulled back his hand and picked up one tube, meticulously applying it to the back of his hand. "This is Special Grade Medicine for external wound healing. After you bathe, apply some to the gunshot wound on your shoulder as well," she instructed.
The man did not move, letting her apply the medication while he smoked, his voice a lot hoarser, "You’re not going back tonight?"
He hadn’t paid much attention to the Medical Alliance’s evaluation, but he knew she had been busy recently.
Li Qiao paused in her application of the ointment, glancing at him sideways, "If I hadn’t come tonight, were you planning to sulk and be jealous by yourself?"
A barely perceptible curve formed at the corners of Shang Yu’s mouth, "Not necessarily."
He could restrain certain unreasonable emotions that churned inside him.
But that did not necessarily mean he could suppress the urge to ’deal with’ her.
Li Qiao did not catch the deep meaning in his words. After applying the ointment, she blew on it and looked at him with a hint of mischievousness in her eyes.
"What happened at the border before?" The man extinguished the cigarette in the ashtray and took her hand, pulling her forcefully into his embrace and planting two kisses on her face.
Li Qiao warned him not to move carelessly, lest the ointment be rubbed off, and then she raised her eyebrows in a counter-question, "The time Su Lao Si saved me?"
Shang Yu nodded and leaned back against the sofa, keeping Li Qiao enfolded in one arm, "Hmm, tell me about it."
She had just said that if it hadn’t been for Su Lao Si, she would have died five years ago.
Those years at the border were part of her more hidden past.
Unless she brought it up herself, he had never inquired about it.
But her words had inevitably aroused in Shang Yu a desire to understand the details more thoroughly.
At that moment, Li Qiao found a comfortable position in his arms, leaning on his shoulder, and began to explain in a calm voice: "Five years ago, I was accidentally bitten by a rare and highly venomous snake in the rainforest at the border. That type of snake is rarely seen, and its venom is very potent; even the antivenom had no effect at the time.
Later, to save me, Su Lao Si went out on his own to find the snake and ended up getting bitten as well.
Everyone thought he was aiming to destroy the snake nest, but I knew he intentionally poisoned himself; he was actually using himself to test medicine for me."
The images from her memories had faded with time, and her pale retelling couldn’t fully convey the gratitude in her heart.
The debt of gratitude owed to Su Lao Si was something Li Qiao would remember for a lifetime.
She chose to risk her life for the Seven Sons; that was her decision, but truly owing someone a debt of gratitude was something else entirely.
"Were there any sequelae after you healed?" Shang Yu listened to her calm voice, but waves of emotion were stirring inside him.
She was only seventeen years old back then.
Li Qiao looked up from his embrace, teasingly, "Shouldn’t you be more focused on the fact that Su Lao Si saved me?"
The man looked down at her with a slight tilt of his handsome face, his eyes and voice serious, "Do I need to pay attention? If he dared to do that, he must have been confident he could cure the snake venom."
Su Moshi wasn’t that foolish to go towards death alongside Li Qiao.
It could only be said that the situation was special at the time; he didn’t dare take a risk with Li Qiao, so he had to test the medicine on himself.
Li Qiao: "..." found herself unable to refute.
She pursed her lips and diverted the conversation back to the potential aftereffects, "I don’t know if there were any sequelae. The injury was on my shoulder, and after so many years, I haven’t felt anything."
"Which shoulder?" Shang Yu’s gaze slowly drifted to her shoulder, his eyes dark with an intense undercurrent.
