Chapter 382: Chapter 382: The Handsome Man, Xiao Yeyan
Li Qiao went to the director’s office and passed the time with casual, sporadic conversations with her godfather, Fei Zhihong.
At this time, Ye Yun was still wearing the jeans and t-shirt from the other day. Gone was her usual charming and lovely demeanor, and no one knew how long it had been since she had bathed; she looked quite disheveled.
And Li Jun, seated opposite her, was dressed in a simple blue shirt and black trousers. Although the shirt was wrinkled, it did nothing to diminish his mature and composed high-ranking official’s demeanor.
Ye Yun clenched her hands upon her knees, not daring to look directly into Li Jun’s eyes. Biting her lip, with an obstinate yet tender demeanor, she asked in a soft voice, "Why are you still here?"
As an official, Li Jun’s every move exuded the authority of someone superior. His gaze swept over Ye Yun before he spoke with heavy irony, "After setting me up like this, did you get what you wanted?"
Ye Yun’s lips trembled. She placed her hands on the table and pleaded, "Brother Jun, I was really forced to do it. Can you please not blame me?"
Li Jun looked at her affected demeanor with an air of authority. "You are an adult. If you don’t want to, who can force you?"
Ye Yun, did someone force you into Xiao Yeyan’s bed? Or did someone force you to slander me in front of the Discipline Inspection Commission, claiming I assaulted you?"
"I..." Ye Yun found herself at a loss for words, her eyes glistening with tears. She felt the Li Jun before her was a stranger, and somewhat frightening.
He was the sort of rigid and dull man unlikely to charm girls, but when it came to harsh words, he could be more ruthless than anyone.
Li Jun leaned forward, his neat features sharp with intensity, "Do you think that because you were my first love, I wouldn’t lay a finger on you?"
As Ye Yun looked at him, her eyes flickering, some thought seemed to cross her mind. She pursed her lips and murmured, "I know I have wronged you, but... If there’s anyone to blame, it’s only because you offended someone you shouldn’t have.
Brother Jun, a weak woman like me can’t control many things. If you truly hurt me, he won’t let you off either."
"He?" Li Jun curled his fingers, tapping the tabletop with his knuckles as he laughed, "Xiao Yeyan?"
Ye Yun remained silent, her defiant gaze on him was like a tacit confirmation.
Li Jun scoffed coldly and slowly stood up, "Do I need to take matters into my own hands to hurt you?
Your Ye Family prides itself on its good name. Elder Ye cares most about face in his lifetime. I’ll be sure to pass on the details of your disgraceful actions to your family to help ’enhance’ your fame overseas."
As he spoke, Li Jun walked out of the holding room, leaving behind Ye Yun, her expression panicked and unsettled.
Behind him came Ye Yun’s cries, but he stopped, leaving her with the last words he would ever say to her, "Ye Yun, you truly disgust me."
...
Having left the holding room, Li Jun stood by the corridor window, his hands behind his back.
The thirty-one-year-old man had a smooth-sailing career as a high-ranking official.
Yet, he had not anticipated that the first major setback in his life would come from a woman he had once deeply loved.
Li Jun slowly closed his eyes, a self-mocking smile forming on his lips.
This absurd life was indeed comparable to a ludicrous play.
Light footsteps echoed from the other end of the corridor, drawing Li Jun back to the moment. He turned to see Li Qiao walking towards him with a relaxed gait.
Li Jun approached her and, with a light sigh, patted her shoulder. "Qiaoqiao, to think your big brother would fall into the hands of such a woman, it must disappoint you."
Li Qiao glanced at the hand on her shoulder and shrugged lightly, "It’s good enough that you’ve come to your senses. I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed."
She gestured with her lips in the direction of the holding room, "Are you done talking?"
"Yep, let’s go."
Watching the fatigue in Li Jun’s eyes, Li Qiao pressed her lips together but held back the words that had come to her lips.
The siblings left the South Sea Police Station, Xiao Wang enthusiastically seeing them off.
Li Qiao walked leisurely next to Li Jun, asking casually, "So you’re just letting her go like that?"
Li Jun paused mid-step, abruptly coming to a standstill.
His abrupt action caused Li Qiao to stop as well, casting him an indifferent glance.
Is this... still reluctant to part?
"Qiaoqiao, wait for me in the car." Li Jun suddenly moved forward a step, looking straight ahead, half-blocking Li Qiao, his tone also much lower.
Li Qiao looked at his back, her gaze leisurely following the line of his shoulder.
A black sedan was parked just outside the police station at that moment.
The window tint was very dark, making it impossible to see inside.
Li Qiao didn’t move and stood on the steps in front of the police station, gazing into the pair of eyes behind the car window.
She could sense that, even with the car window acting as a barrier, that unnerving gaze seemed to be resting on her.
Li Qiao cast a playful look at Li Jun, only then noticing that his lips were tightly pursed, his eyes full of caution.
After going out this afternoon, Li Jun had clarified all the ins and outs of the situation.
So, seeing that black business sedan, Li Jun instinctively wanted to protect Li Qiao.
He turned his head, urging, "Be good, go back to the car first."
Before Li Qiao could speak, the rear door of the black sedan had already been opened by the driver.
Following that, a crystal-clear and indifferent voice arrived, "Sorry, I am late."
The night sky was overhead, and the streetlights were dim; a tall and imposing man with an overpowering presence stepped out from the back seat.
Before meeting this man, Li Qiao never thought a man could be described as beautiful.
When she clearly saw that face, an utterly ridiculous thought occurred to her.
If this man were compared with her elder brother, it would not be surprising if Ye Yun chose the other.
He was gorgeous, though that word was not quite adequate; that comic-like facial features, which seemed to come with an inbuilt filter, could probably only be adorned with a word like ’beautiful.’
Thick eyebrows, phoenix eyes, and clear, smooth facial lines.
Xiao Yeyan.
When Li Qiao was investigating his background, she hadn’t found a front-facing photo of him.
However, there was a side-profile photo, and that ambivalence of virtue and vice was easy to recognize.
Clearly a secretary-general, yet there was almost no photo of his full face in the society news of the South Sea.
At that moment, Xiao Yeyan stood firm near the car door, his tall figure under the streetlight, his stray hair flying, and even the simplest attire exuded nobility.
He straightened the cuffs of his shirt and walked over with a stride that was casual yet confident.
Li Qiao watched him, her eyes neither cold nor warm, and yet she still showed no intention of leaving.
In a flash, he was close.
Li Jun could only step down the last stair, blocking the way of Xiao Yeyan, who was of similar height.
"Aren’t you supposed to be at the secretariat? What brings you to the police station?"
In terms of status, Li Jun was Xiao Yeyan’s superior, and such a question was reasonable.
Xiao Yeyan lifted his perfectly arched double eyelids slightly, nodding without any show of subservience, "Isn’t it because I heard that you came out, and specifically came to pick up some wind for you, to dispel the bad luck."
Li Jun had his reservations about Xiao Yeyan, but didn’t want to reveal anything, so he responded with an official tone of rejection, "There’s no need for that, I will be at the secretariat tomorrow morning, we can talk about anything then."
Xiao Yeyan looked at him unchangingly, then his gaze shifted past his shoulder, sweeping over Li Qiao without a ripple.
That look was very calm, yet it harbored an intriguing depth.
