Chapter 312: Chapter 312: My Girlfriend, No Need
He Xi bit her red lips while smoking, seemingly making an offhand tease, "Why would I mind, don’t forget her boyfriend smokes too."
The comment made sense.
Yet, seizing the initiative in conversation like this was bound to make people a little uncomfortable.
It was unclear whether this was just her personality, or if it was deliberate.
Li Qiao flickered her gaze, her expression very calm as she said to He Qing, "I don’t mind."
He Xi lit her cigarette with her lighter directly, and when she exhaled the smoke, she raised her eyebrows importantly with a look that said ’see I was right’.
Everyone sat in silence for a moment. He Qing sipped on his cigarette, his gaze on Shang Yu was subtle but clearly he had something to say.
Li Qiao caught his look, probably because some things were difficult to discuss with her present.
She wondered whether she should excuse herself.
Noticing this, Shang Yu toyed with Li Qiao’s fingers and said with profound eyes, "If you have something to say, just say it."
At this, a hint of surprise flashed through the eyes of the He family siblings.
He was truly unguarded around Li Qiao.
But both used the act of smoking to mask their astonishment quite well.
Soon, He Qing cleared his throat, flicked the ash from his cigarette onto his suit pants, and squinted as he said, "The accident at noon today, do you need help looking into it?"
He Xi paused in her smoking, her smile slightly waning, "Ferrari Enzo models are not common in Parma, it should be easy enough to investigate."
"No need," Shang Yu said with deep eyes as he lifted his lids, firmly declining their offer.
He Qing frowned slightly, gazing at Shang Yu’s indifferent, languid expression, and nodded knowingly, "Alright then, if you need anything, just let us know."
He Xi’s gaze flitted between them, stooping to stub out her cigarette in the ashtray, and teased, "When have you ever seen him need anyone’s help? If you really want to help, better assign more people to protect his girlfriend."
Li Qiao leaned back in her chair without saying a word, her lips revealing a smile that was not quite a smile.
He Xi was far from being a careless woman.
On the contrary, she was quite shrewd.
One could say her teasing of Li Qiao was an unintentional slip, but if every remark had an intention behind it, then it was certainly not thoughtless.
She could intuit He Xi’s intentions.
No malice, just probing.
Now, before Li Qiao could speak up in rebuttal, Shang Yu, who was beside her, was already looking at He Xi with a lift in his brow.
The man’s expression was not displeased, but rather ambiguously began, "My girlfriend doesn’t need it."
A double entendre.
It’s worth contemplating whether he meant she didn’t need others’ protection, or didn’t need protection at all.
He Xi chuckled, adjusting the skirt at her knee, and casually changed the subject, "I heard that the Sixth Bureau’s people seem to have arrived in Parma recently."
"When did this happen?" He Qing looked at her in surprise, his expression turning quite serious.
He Baixi exchanged looks with him while her peripheral gaze lingered on Li Qiao, "It’s just from the past few days, the specifics are still unclear.
I’m wondering if something special happened in Parma to draw their attention."
The Sixth Bureau, the place of espionage.
Gathering information, selling information, and extremely mysterious.
"Are you..." He Qing was about to continue inquiring when he was suddenly interrupted by the vibration of a cell phone.
The He family siblings followed the sound and saw Li Qiao apologetically held up her phone, "Sorry."
He Qing pursed his lips, about to speak again, when the phone vibrated once more.
It wasn’t a call, but a barrage of text messages.
Li Qiao, out of politeness, did not want to check her phone in front of the guests, but the continuous stream of messages was truly overwhelming.
