Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Whom Do You Want to Pledge Your Allegiance To?

In an instant, Li Qiao entered the ward.

A strong, pungent smell of disinfectant pervaded the surroundings.

She stood at the door, looking at Li San receiving an IV drip in the bed, gathered herself, and walked over with deliberate steps.

The once iron-blooded man now had a sickly pallor, his head wrapped in gauze, and the way he lay on the bed was a bit unbecoming.

At that moment, Li San’s eyes were open, his head turned sideways as he lay there, his dark gaze fixed on Li Qiao unblinkingly, as if he didn’t recognize her.

After locking eyes for a few seconds, Li Qiao slowly squinted, standing a few steps away from him, she raised an eyebrow and said, "Lost your memory?"

Nan Xin, who followed her in, felt a twitch in his eyelid, stuffed the food container into Liuyun’s arms, and stepped forward to the bed, his face pale as he bent down, "Boss, who am I?"

If Li San really had lost his memory, would he still remember him?

Nan Xin inwardly cursed and wanted to cry again!

Silence spread throughout the ward.

Although Li San was conscious, he had sustained a head injury, leaving him feeling weak and listless.

As he watched Nan Xin’s eyes redden and tears stream down his face, snot shimmering at the tip of his nose, Li San felt revulsion and frowned deeply.

After a long while, his thin lips moved, and he uttered a single word, "Ugly..."

How could this woman appear so ravaged, what had she been through during the time he was unconscious?

Unable to bear the sight, Li San shut his eyes, while Nan Xin stiffened her neck and turned to head toward the restroom.

Not far away, Li Qiao heard Li San’s words, a smile curving her lips as she nodded slightly to herself, it seemed he hadn’t lost his memory.

She walked over to the bed, looking down at Li San, and as their eyes met again, Li San rolled his Adam’s apple and asked in a slow tone, "Where is this?"

"South Sea."

Upon hearing this, Li San took a deep breath; it was indeed just as he had thought.

The luxurious decoration and layout of the ward were clearly not something from the border area.

He moved his legs, finding the prone position uncomfortable. His eyes narrowed slightly as he asked again, "Where’s Ou Bai?"

Li Qiao pulled up a chair beside the bed and sat down, picking up the water cup from the table and testing the temperature with the back of her hand before replying, "Keeping it for you."

"Hmm, sensible," Li San muttered in relief, his thoughts already turning to how he would deal with Ou Bai once he was discharged.

Because Li San was still very weak, after a brief exchange, he closed his eyes, overcome with sleepiness.

After Li San fell asleep, Nan Xin also came out of the restroom. Having freshened up, although she still looked faintly haggard, her radiant beauty once again lit up her eyes and brows.

...

Li Qiao didn’t linger long in the hospital; after instructing Nan Xin to take care, she stayed a while longer before heading downstairs to drive back to the lab.

She arrived at the base of the research building before nine in the morning.

Li Qiao glanced at the small brocade box on the passenger seat, thought for a moment, and then placed it into the glove compartment.

She didn’t go up to the third floor but instead headed to the pharmaceutical development department on the second floor.

Several department heads were organizing documents, and upon seeing Li Qiao, they stood up eagerly to greet her, "Xiao Li, good morning."

Li Qiao briefly explained her purpose, and the staff responsible for drug development quickly took out several bottles of trial medication from the cabinet, "These special drugs are very effective for treating external injuries and have passed validation from the research institute. We have plenty, just come back for more if it’s not enough."

"Thank you, Teacher Zhang."

Li Qiao took several bottles, expressed her thanks, and then went up to the third floor.

Watching her leave, Teacher Zhang pondered for a moment before hastily calling his assistant, "Xiao Liu, go to the research institute later and bring back a few more bottles of the experimental medication for external injuries. Xiao Li might need them."

...

Li Qiao spent the entire morning in the lab with Lian Zhen, organizing materials for the exchange meeting, and their work came to a pause close to noon.

"Xiao Li, shall we go for lunch together?" Lian Zhen glanced at his watch, marked the documents, and placed them in the folder before turning to ask.

Li Qiao looked at her phone and shook her head, "No, I have something to take care of."

After saying that, she got up, nodded to Lian Zhen, and then left the laboratory building.

Just then, Academician Jiang came out of his office and caught a glimpse of Li Qiao not wearing a lab coat. He walked into the lab and asked Lian Zhen, "Is Qiaoqiao going out again?"

Lian Zhen replied, "She said she had something to deal with."

Academician Jiang took off his reading glasses and tucked them into his pocket, clicking his tongue, "These children of wealthy families, they don’t really have a relaxed life either. Tsk, she’s quite outstanding."

Lian Zhen: "..."

Academician Jiang’s daily praise of Li Qiao was something he had grown accustomed to.

...

At noon, Li Qiao went to the hospital again to bring Li San the experimental medicine.

These were all tested by the research institute, not available on the market, and considered special in-house medication.

She crossed the hospital lobby and took the elevator directly to the high-end ward area.

At that moment, the door to the room was ajar.

She reached out to push the door, but unexpectedly overheard a conversation.

"Did you talk to me while I was unconscious?" It was Li San’s voice, slow but more confident than in the morning.

Then, there was a clatter, as if a cup had toppled over.

Nan Xin was frantically wiping the table, stuttering in response, "Ah? What, what talk? I didn’t say anything."

Her tone was nothing like the fiery passion of the Fire Rose.

Instead, she sounded like a nervous little girl whose secret had been discovered.

Nan Xin’s reaction was way too abnormal.

Li Qiao’s eyes flickered slightly, she abandoned the idea of entering, and instead leaned casually against the door, blatantly eavesdropping around the corner.

In the ward, after a moment of silence, Li San gave Nan Xin a sidelong glance, his voice deep, "Are you sure? You know the consequences of lying to me."

Look at that, the brother and sister both have the exact same tone when they threaten people.

Nan Xin, with her back to him, wiped the table absentmindedly with a tissue.

Only after she collected herself did she revert to her usual irreverent demeanor, "Boss, what on earth are you talking about? I don’t understand at all."

This was what you would call an act, and Nan Xin thoroughly despised herself for it.

What else could she do?

The thoughts she dared not speak aloud could only be cherished in the depths of her heart.

At that moment, Li San ground his teeth, his eyes fierce and deep, "Cut the bullshit, did you say you would turn to someone else for support?"

Nan Xin’s cleaning paused, and her tense emotions suddenly relaxed.

Oh, so this was it.

She tossed the tissue into the bin, and as she turned back, she leaned on the edge of the table, flicking her wavy hair, and coyly smiled, "You heard?"

Seeing her like that, Li San felt an urge to draw a gun.

But his body hadn’t recovered, and he could only lie prone in bed, struggling to even get up.

His nostrils flared, his eyes squinting coldly, speaking deliberately, "Tell me, besides me, who else do you want to turn to?"

Nan Xin was stunned, and seeing the murderous look in Li San’s eyes, she involuntarily lowered her gaze, a self-mocking expression emerging.

He probably thought she was going to betray him, hence his anger.

Nan Xin poured another glass of water and walked to the head of the bed with a light
