Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Without Shaoyan, Is She Worth Anything?
Ou Bai staggered from the blow, unable to react in time, and collapsed straight onto the gangway.
His hands were tied, and the position in which he fell was both pathetic and ridiculous.
Liuyun and Luoyu wanted to step forward and help him up, but catching sight of Li Qiao’s indifferent expression, they discarded the thought.
It’s better not to provoke Miss Li when she’s in a towering rage.
Qiu Huan hadn’t expected Li Qiao to suddenly lash out either. On his way back, he had heard about the reason for Li San’s injury. This time... Ou Bai had indeed gone too far.
Li Qiao radiated a solitary, murderous aura, her slender figure blocking the cabin door.
Holding a brocade box in one hand, her grip kept tightening until the box, unable to bear the pressure, was slowly deformed.
For a time, no one spoke.
At that moment, Li Qiao’s eyes were pitch black, like the darkest night, oppressively stifling.
The area around the cabin door felt as though it had entered the cold December winter; a passing breeze made everyone shiver with cold.
It took a good while before Ou Bai struggled to his feet again.
The once divine face of the entertainment industry was no more; his chin was marred, cheekbones swollen, even his hairstyle spotted with dust. Ou Bai was a complete mess.
But his eyes were bloodshot as he glared fiercely at Li Qiao, "You motherfu... mmpph mmpph mmpph..."
Before he could finish speaking, Qiu Huan immediately stepped forward to silence him.
This man must have been spoiled by those fans in the entertainment industry; he had no sense of the situation.
Qiu Huan’s face was glacial as he wrapped one hand around the back of Ou Bai’s head, covering his mouth, his gaze fixed firmly on Li Qiao, "Sis, what he did was wrong, I’ll apologize on his behalf, so please calm down first."
It was clear to everyone that Li Qiao was seething; striking without a word, Ou Bai would probably be close to death if he continued to spout nonsense.
At that moment, Li Qiao locked eyes with Ou Bai unwaveringly. She stretched out her hand, grabbed his collar, and with a slight tug, forced him to bow his head.
Her gaze fell on Qiu Huan’s hand, and she spoke indifferently, "Master Qiu, remove your hand."
Qiu Huan felt a tightness in his chest and subtly squeezed Ou Bai’s arm, signaling with his eyes for him to keep his mouth shut.
After a short pause, Qiu Huan removed his hand, watching the two of them warily, ready to intervene at any moment.
Li Qiao held Ou Bai’s collar while looking straight at him, so close that he could see his own disheveled reflection in her eyes.
"Let go of me!" Ou Bai couldn’t stand to see his own face injured. He struggled, shrugging his shoulders with an aggressive tone.
Without waiting for Li Qiao to speak, Nan Xin, who had been silent for a while, swiftly kicked the back of Ou Bai’s knee.
Fast and fierce.
So much so that Ou Bai was caught off guard by the pain, his knees buckling, and he fell straight to his knees before Li Qiao.
Concerning a man’s dignity, Ou Bai abruptly tried to stand, angrily glaring at Nan Xin and cursing in Chinese.
But before he could finish his movement, Nan Xin stepped on his ankle.
Ou Bai struggled to get up but was unable to, his rage boiling inside with no recourse.
Li Qiao still didn’t let go of him, quietly tightening her grip, and the shirt collar gradually began to constrict around Ou Bai’s neck.
His breathing became difficult, and as he locked eyes with Li Qiao, an inexplicable fear of death began to well up from within.
Li Qiao looked down disdainfully, and after a long time, spoke in a calm voice, "If my brother is alright, then you’ll be alright."
If something had happened? She didn’t say, and nobody dared to think too deeply.
As soon as the words were spoken, Li Qiao had also released Ou Bai’s collar.
He gasped for a few breaths and, once he could move freely, he pushed Nan Xin aside with his shoulder and stood up from the ground with a defiant look in his eyes.
Then, with his back turned to Qiu Huan, Ou Bai ground his teeth and muttered lowly, "Untie me."
Qiu Huan pursed his lips and turned to watch Miss Li walking back towards the cabin door, evidently relieved.
He untied the hemp rope from Ou Bai’s wrists, and before he could speak, the other man staggered, intending to enter the cabin.
Qiu Huan stepped forward and grasped Ou Bai’s arm, giving Liuyun a look that signaled them to go in first.
Liuyun and Luoyu gave each other a complex look, then led Nan Xin into the cabin.
Soon after, the area near the gangway returned to quietness.
Qiu Huan took a cigarette from his pocket, lit one, and handed it to Ou Bai. "You really aren’t afraid of dying, huh?"
With residual anger on his face, Ou Bai looked at the cigarette, and only after a long while did he shakily place it between his fingers.
His hands had been tied behind his back for too long and had gone numb and stiff.
Watching Ou Bai’s shaky smoking motions, reminiscent of someone with Parkinson’s, Qiu Huan couldn’t help but sigh, "The feud between you and Li San should end here."
At this, Ou Bai paused in smoking and, pointing to the wound on his face, let out a cold laugh. "Say that again?"
"I could repeat it several times, and it would still be the same. Didn’t you see Li Qiao’s expression just now? If these people weren’t present, do you think you’d still be able to stand?"
Qiu Huan spoke very seriously, with not the slightest hint of jest.
He had known Miss Li for a long time, but today he saw that ruthlessly decisive side of her for the first time.
Her eyes, when looking at Ou Bai, were so cold they had no trace of warmth, as if she were looking at a dead person.
Ou Bai’s Adam’s apple bobbed continuously, a lump stuck at the top of his throat.
"Think about it carefully, has your hatred for Li San really reached a point of life and death?" Qiu Huan leaned against the gangway railing and kicked Ou Bai lightly with the tip of his foot. "Put yourself in her shoes. If Li Qiao was the one who had caused your sister to fall into a coma, what would you do? Could you be more restrained than she was?"
This reminder made Ou Bai’s expression freeze.
He reached out to adjust his shirt collar and turned away, looking into the distance with a heavy tone. "Do you think I was wrong too?"
"It’s not wrong to go after Li San, but you did go too far by causing him serious injury. Buddy, do you realize that if Shaoyan hadn’t come today, you probably wouldn’t even survive to leave the border?"
As Qiu Huan spoke, he firmly patted Ou Bai’s shoulder. Ou Bai turned and gave him a skeptical look, thinking he was exaggerating, "Are you trying to scare me?"
"If you really don’t believe it, then you can try again." Qiu Huan nodded toward the cabin with a snort and a laugh. "Li San is lying in there; there are guns in the liquor cabinet. You just grab a gun and shoot him; see if Li Qiao would let you live then?"
Ou Bai spat uncouthly onto the ground and touched his own cheek, lifting his lips in scorn. "Are you overestimating her? Without Shaoyan, does she amount to anything at all?"
Without Shaoyan, they wouldn’t even know who Li Qiao was.
The young master of the Ou Family was probably unscathed by society’s harsh lessons; when his temper flared, his words became increasingly unpleasant.
Qiu Huan looked down to flick the cigarette ash, raised an eyebrow, and said with a heavy look in his eyes, "Ou Bai, don’t be so arrogant. When you got out of the car just now, did you really not see the emblem on the two helicopters?
A person who can command the Myanmar Military’s Special Execution Team, do you think I need to talk her up? Those people didn’t come because of Shaoyan."
With that, Qiu Huan gave Ou Bai a long, deep look, threw down his cigarette butt, and crushed it hard with his heel, murmuring ’Think about it for yourself’, before turning and entering the cabin.
