Chapter 72: Crying won’t solve anything

"I got it."

"I understand, Yoon Seoyul, so let’s go back now."

Cheon Areum passed by Yoon Seoyul, walking through the same narrow alleyway. As he walked to the sea, collapsing onto the sand, Cheon Areum dipped his head in the cold water, staying still for a while.

"Haa...."

When he reemerged from the water, Yoon Seoyul was standing behind him. Not paying him any mind, Cheon Areum washed the blood from his face, arms, and clothes. After doing a decent job, he got back on his feet. Cheon Areum looked over Yoon Seoyul’s shoulder, the exit gate had appeared on the beach next to them.

"Where’s Lee Nari? Get her to the gate. I’m leaving first."

"You don’t need to do that. We’ll leave together."

Lee Nari walked out of the same narrow alleyway as she spoke, with a neutral expression on her face. Cheon Areum was the first to exit the dungeon. He stood right outside the gate as Yoon Seoyul and Lee Nari came out, and the black gate shrank and dissolved. Yoon Seoyul grabbed his hand, but he immediately slipped his hand out of his fingers.

"I need some fresh air. You both go by yourselves. Leave if you want to, it doesn’t matter."

"It’s cold out here, Areum. Let’s go back in the car."

"It’s not cold. Just let me be for a bit."

Cheon Areum’s vision spun as he tried to look up at Yoon Seoyul. He gave up on trying to look; instead, he sat on the wet grass, cross-legged, but even that much movement made him dizzy enough to only stare at the land in front of his eyes.

"Don’t take off your shirt. It won’t do anything. I’ll give him my jacket."

Lee Nari unbuttoned her tweed jacket, draping it over Cheon Areum’s shoulders.

"I’ll be in the car. Until I see you both leaving, I won’t leave either."

She spoke softly before leaving for her car parked on the road.

"Yoon Seoyul, you need to leave too."

"Can’t I just stay here? I won’t say anything. You can just ignore me."

"No. Leave."

"..... I’ll wait by the car. Don’t stay here for too long."

Yoon Seoyul’s footsteps drew farther and farther until only the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind was left. Cheon Areum silently sat in the dim light, shrouded by the trees over his head. His left arm was shaking uncontrollably; he couldn’t stop it. He hugged his left hand with his right hand, which didn’t waver in the slightest.

What are you doing?

Do you even know what you are doing?

Do you think this is a romance story? Are you forgetting what you said to yourself on the very first day of waking up in this body?

How could he ever even think to play with fate, with Rian’s livelihood at risk?

Just because you got on the good side of the main character means nothing. After seeing you massacre so many human-alike beings, what do you think he’ll feel for you? Love? The benevolent, kind-hearted main character who always strives for justice loves someone who would kill even a real human without hesitation? Crap. You didn’t change anything. You’re still a ruthless villain hiding behind a good skin. If you really had thought that Yoon Seoyul would be fine with this side of you, why don’t you tell him about what you did to Gunwoo and why his family members are threatening Rian’s safety?

Cheon Areum gritted his teeth as a wave of teardrops fell onto the grass.

Yeah right, cry about it. That’ll work. Like that’ll change anything. You know what would have worked? If you had just run as far as you could with Rian the day you met Yoon Seoyul...

I should have never gotten involved with the main character.

How much did Cheon Areum trust himself to not end up following the same plot line and kidnapping Lee Nari? The most trust he had put in was in not ever falling in love with the main character of the book. He had no doubts. He was so sure it wouldn’t happen.

After making fun of Cheon Areum for falling in love with Yoon Seoyul, you went ahead and did the same thing. What now? You still think this is funny? Go ahead, laugh then! Why are you crying??

*SNIFF*

How will you handle it when Yoon Seoyul will stand on the opposite side, holding Lee Nari’s hand, shielding her from a monster like you? What are the chances of you not pulling the trigger of the gun? Will you think of Rian then or just put a bullet in your head, overwhelmed by your emotions?

Cheon Areum chuckled while wiping the tears from his face with the back of his thumb.

No, maybe this is funny. With Cheon Areum, I was helpless from the start. I was meant to fall in love with Yoon Seoyul again, and this time, since Yoon Seoyul hadn’t outright rejected him, he had only fallen deeper.

Removing Lee Nari’s jacket from his shoulders, Cheon Areum slowly stood up, taking tiny steps towards the cars parked on the road.

Save yourself and Rian, Cheon Areum. Lee Nari won’t treat Yoon Seoyul badly. She might not be caring of anyone else, but if she loves Yoon Seoyul, she’ll do anything for him.

Cheon Areum knocked on the window of the driver’s seat of Lee Nari’s car. Lee Nari rolled the window down as he handed the jacket to her with his right hand.

"Thank you for giving it to me. For your first S-Class gate, you did well."

Lee Nari gently smiled at him, accepting the jacket and tossing it on the passenger seat.

"You look tired. Get some rest. You did well too."

Cheon Areum nodded mindlessly, his expression vacant as he turned and walked toward Yoon Seoyul’s car parked just ahead of Lee Nari’s. He opened the back seat door and slipped inside. Yoon Seoyul, who had been leaning silently against the driver’s side, watched him for a moment before opening his own door and getting in.

"Can you buy a bag full of vanilla ice cream bars?"

"No, actually, forget I said that. Just drive back to Seoul."
