Chapter 70: The bridge to insanity isn’t long
The child, unaware—or worse, entirely used to the act—sat on the edge of the crumbling fountain. He gently straightened the cold, lifeless digits of the severed hand, one by one. Then, with a tilt of his head, he opened his mouth and bit down on the pinky finger. A soft crunch echoed, skin tearing like paper, a thin layer of flesh peeling back as the boy chewed with small, sharp teeth. Blood dribbled down his chin in slow streaks.
Cheon Areum quietly got up and passed by the boy without sparing him a glance. The boy seemed to be about Rian’s age. It would’ve been fine if the child was just a monster of the dungeon, but the demonic-alike negative energy surrounding only him...
I’ll just let Lee Nari take care of him.
If only he could find her. Lee Nari could use her Degenerate skill on the child while he holds him back with Mind Corruption.
"Areum..."
Hearing the familiar voice, Cheon Areum froze mid-step and turned back instinctively. The boy he had just passed by stood behind, with no other person in close radius. That was definitely Yoon Seoyul’s voice—but it wasn’t him. The boy with crimson red lips sucked on the only mangled finger remaining, barely attached by a strand of flesh, while looking up at him with wide and bright eyes. The hand hanging from his mouth suddenly dropped to the cobblestone ground as he opened his mouth to speak again.
Clamping his hands tightly over his ears, Cheon Areum immediately looked away from the boy. Without sparing him another glance, he turned and calmly walked toward the abandoned building that overlooked the town square. The building didn’t have a tilted roof, just a flat, open top that gave a clear view of the surroundings. If he climbed up, he could easily scan the winding streets below for any sign of Yoon Seoyul or Lee Nari, instead of aimlessly walking through every path and risking getting lost in the tangled layout of the town.
"Cheon Areum!"
Lee Nari’s voice came from above him. He didn’t want to look, but why did it have to mimic Lee Nari’s voice as if that would do anything to him?
"Cheon Areum!!"
Another loud shout came from above, calling out his name. Cheon Areum tilted his head back, eyes following the sound. The voice came from the rooftop of the very abandoned building he had been about to enter. Standing there, framed by the open sky, was Lee Nari. She smiled down at him, her long hair catching in the breeze as their eyes met.
"Come up here, Cheon Areum! Yoon Seoyul is also here with me."
Pushing open the creaky, half-hanging wooden door of the abandoned building, Cheon Areum dashed inside and sprinted up the worn stairs. Dust swirled around his feet as he ascended past the second floor. Just above it, a narrow corridor led to a rooftop access door—surprisingly still intact. As he reached it, the door clicked from the other side. Lee Nari, already on the rooftop, pulled it open for him. Light spilled in from behind her, casting her silhouette against the blue sky as Cheon Areum stepped out onto the open roof.
"What are you both doing here alone?"
He spoke as Yoon Seoyul’s face came into view. Their eyes locked before his gaze moved to the white dress shirt soaking in red blood.
"Oh, this... You know the guy who pushed you into the sea? After pushing you, he pulled out a knife and started stabbing us like crazy!"
"But that was just a normal monster. How did he get stabbed by it so easily?"
Yoon Seoyul’s hand firmly pressed against the bleeding knife wound, dark red seeping through his fingers as he sat on the low wall of the roof. Despite the injury, his expression remained composed. His eyes swept over Cheon Areum slowly—up and down—before he finally spoke in a steady, almost detached tone.
"Are you cold?"
"Worry about yourself. It’s not like you to get hurt by a small fry."
"The man actually tried to stab me first, but I panicked and hid behind Yoon Seoyul when he was looking for you in the seawater..."
Cheon Areum sighed after listening to her. Coming close to Yoon Seoyul, he placed a hand on his shoulder as Lee Nari stood beside him.
"You’re not allowed to hide behind Yoon Seoyul. If you want to do it, hide behind me next time. I’m stronger than him."
"Oh, okay. I’ll do that."
"Also aren’t you a healer? The least you could do is heal him..."
Cheon Areum placed his hand over Yoon Seoyul’s. A wound this big might not heal completely by using his abilities alone.

A thin string of black energy appeared from Cheon Areum’s fingers when his hand was suddenly slapped away by Lee Nari, causing the strings to coil back into his tips.
"Your class type isn’t of a healer now. I was busy looking for you, that’s why I couldn’t heal Yoon Seoyul before."
Lee Nari stepped forward, subtly edging past Cheon Areum as she took his place. With a gentle touch, she laid her hand over Yoon Seoyul’s bloodied side. A soft, radiant pink glow bloomed beneath her fingertips, spreading over the wound and regenerating the lost cells. While Cheon Areum stood there watching them.
"Save your energy, Areum. We still haven’t seen the boss of this dungeon."
"....."
Clenching his fists as his nails dug into his palm, Cheon Areum walked away to the other side of the roof, looking down at the town square, where the same children, smiling, had returned to their game—darting around the decrepit fountain after eating.
