Chapter 54: Could it be Lee Nari?

Aera immediately grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to an inauspicious corner. With a very serious expression, she spoke with all the seriousness in the world.

"I need you to answer honestly Areum... Did you know that Jia has a crush on me?"

"...Wasn’t it quite obvious?"

Cheon Areum muttered half-heartedly, not knowing how she had missed it.

"I... I never even considered it. Shin Jia just confessed to me."

"And?"

Did she really have no one else to talk to about this? He just wanted to submit the report quickly and go back to Rian.

"I didn’t give her an answer yet..."

Aera said, seemingly affected by the confession.

"Good. Think long and hard before you give her an answer. Good luck!"

Cheon Areum threw a hasty thumbs-up in Aera’s direction, a crooked grin on his face, and fled the scene before Aera could catch him again. Heading straight to the top floor, he typed a message for Yoon Seoyul, telling him that he was at his office, but his fingers paused as the elevator doors slid open. A wave of heat bloomed in his chest, and his nostrils were assaulted by a deep and far too concentrated vanilla—like someone had shattered a bottle of undiluted inside.

His thumb hovered above the screen, forgotten. The elevator’s soft golden lighting suddenly felt too warm. His heartbeat stuttered, then quickened unnaturally.

The entire floor was saturated in that thick vanilla scent—sweet, dense, and cloying in a way that made his thoughts blur at the edges. The further he walked, the tighter his chest grew, a subtle ache coiling in his gut that had little to do with the pheromones in the air. There were no other traces of scent. No clashing alphas, no faint hint of another omega—just the overwhelming signature of Yoon Seoyul, untainted and everywhere.

Damn it. What the hell is this...

He paused at the empty secretary desk, glancing around. Joon was nowhere in sight. That alone was strange—Joon never left his post early, not without a specific order. But maybe he was inside the office with Yoon Seoyul though if he had been dismissed, it meant he wanted privacy. Was he expecting company?

Cheon Areum’s lips drew into a thin line. The thought crept in uninvited. The only person he could think of right off the bat was Lee Nari.

Did they... after their first meeting? Was it never mentioned because the book was PG-13?

A bitter taste rose in his mouth. He hated how plausible it sounded. Despite everything screaming at him to turn away, Cheon Areum’s hand moved on its own. The moment his fingers touched the door handle, the smooth metal was already turning beneath his palm. As soon as the door opened, Joon hurriedly came out, his expression contorting upon seeing his face. A deep crease formed between his brows as he pinched his nose tightly, trying to stifle the pheromone-heavy air behind him. Joon was an alpha. Alpha pheromones weren’t supposed to overwhelm him. If anything, they should’ve stirred up an instinctive reaction—making him more aggressive towards Yoon Seoyul. But the way Joon looked right now—like he was moments away from gagging—meant only one thing.

It was unbearable. Too concentrated. Too intense. And worst of all, it wasn’t just intense. It was intimate.

"You’re mistaken. I didn’t do anything with Master."

"Huh? I wasn’t thinking you did..."

Joon closed the door and began packing his briefcase as if he was escaping from an asylum.

"The guild members’ offices are on the fourth floor. You haven’t even seen your office yet. Do you think you’re the guild master now?"

"..."

Without even trying, he somehow ruffled the wrong feathers again as Joon, without provocation, began assuming his character.

"Why do I have to carry these around?"

Joon questioned as he placed a mega pack of 100 condoms on his desk and answered his own question.

"Because of you! Because of you, I even have to care about Master’s bedroom matters, which should only happen in a bedroom."

He emphasized the last word. Even Cheon Areum hadn’t taken note of the condom size, which Joon knew, as the pack was XL—which seemed to be right. Cheon Areum frowned deeper the longer he stared at the box. Why did Joon even know the size so confidently? Like it was common knowledge—like it was his business? The longer he thought about it, the more his irritation itched under his skin like an allergic reaction.

"Why did you buy the thin ones?"

"Is that what’s important to you right now?!"

Fuming, Joon held his temples with his other free hand.

"I’m done here. Take this with you."

He forced the oversized box toward Cheon Areum like it was cursed and bolted for the elevator, his polished shoes clacking loudly. The doors slid open just in time, and Joon all but dove in, slapping the close button repeatedly—like a man escaping a ravenous zombie hot on his heels.

Cheon Areum blinked at the space he left behind, then at the absurdly shiny mega pack in his hand. It practically sparkled under the office lighting, obnoxiously bulky and utterly smug in its presence. He sighed.

"...Might as well bring it along for the ride."

And with that, he tucked it under his arm like a loaf of bread and walked inside, bracing himself for the worst. Expecting the scene he’d conjured up in his head, he squinted one eye open—just a peek, half an eyelid’s worth. But there was no one else.

Only Yoon Seoyul.

Slouched on the couch, legs spread carelessly, shirt slightly rumpled, he blinked up at him with the dazed expression of a drunkard. The faint glint in his unfocused eyes made him look wrecked in the most unguarded way.

And at that exact moment, the pheromones in the air thickened—no, doubled—hitting Cheon Areum in the chest like an invisible wall. His breath hitched, knees nearly giving out as the sheer density of the scent overwhelmed his senses.
