Chapter 88: Zephyr’s Progress

’Well this is awkward’. Zephyr thought that after the fight the students would form their own little group, it was common for like minded people to gather together. But no.

Everyone did their own thing, ever single person minded their own business, acting as if they were strangers. They had been living together for at least a year now for goodness sake.

He discovered that they weren’t the only people in the black maw dorm, all together they were eighteen but still everyone minded their business.

Turning in his bed he could see that Oliver buried his head his his pillow pretending to be asleep, but judging from the erratic breathing of his heart Zephyr could tell he was still awake.

To Zephyr pleasent surprise he realized that after the use of the eye, all his senses where heightened. And also, his Aether had thicken even more then before pressing on the edge of grade 3 despite being at grade 1, he also discovered that the problem the entire world was facing was now ineffective to him.

For example look at these students, there had been stuck at grade 3 despite being a grade 1 when they started the academy Last year. It was because to advance to the next grade

To cross the boundary from Zeta to Elpison, one must maintain the phenomenon known as the Aether Convergence.

The individual must synchronize his Neutral Aether and Affinity Aether, they must pulse in perfect unison, creating a Harmonic Aetherwave.

This wave must be sustained for a continuous period during combat or under intense situation, signaling to the user’s soul and the world that that the individual is ready to ascend.

So when the world acknowledges that fact, it forces a unique Aether— the world’s life blood, into the soul of the individual and effectively rank then up, but this act of forcing itself leaves scar in the soul of the individual. And soul injuries takes time to heal.

And by the time it heals the individual would be ready to ascend again, but the individual would have to wait an awful amount of time to ascend or risk soul fracture.

And when the user gets to grade 3 the individual no longer need the lifeblood of the world again, instead they would have to hunt for a source, for a fire Aether wielder they would need an extremely potent fire source or ice Aether wielder, they needed to find an extremely potent ice source to coat their soul in to ascend.

Let’s take Demios clan for an example, to advance they just to be taken to the clan leader domain and then their soul would be coated by the extremely potent black flame Aether in the air.

The reason is because the Domain wasn’t created by the present clan head but was inherited throughout the centuries. This is one of the advantages the members of clans hold against non members of the clan.

So these students were at grade 3 but had to wait to heal out all injuries and hidden ones so that the coating won’t leak into their soul, or else.

Now back to Zephyr. When he advanced from Zeta to Epsilon he didn’t use the world lifeblood, instead he used his own, mixed with whatever Aether present in the eye.

That means, his soul wasn’t scared so just a little investment from his side he would be on his way to Delta rank.

Zephyr frowned as he turned on his bed. ’That would be a problem’. How would he find a source. He needed a source but he was clueless as of now and he was sure going to DuskFall clan they would turn into a slave with the disgusting contracts of this world.

’i will cross that bridge when I get there, but for now’. His mind wandered to his weaving/ sealing class. Before coming here he had engraved an hollow Art in his mind, but it was taking too long to become useable by him. Although it’s been only two days, he had hope that his condensed Aether would help him, but he was disappointed.

Hollow Art was the product of humanity desire to create Arts similar to the one gifted by the world. But the world was clearly displeased by it, it didn’t bless the Art and as a result it took twice the Aether needed to activate the art.

And even when activated it draws Aether from not only the wielder’s personal Aether but from the surroundings as well, making it useless for a sneak attack.

He had modified a lot of hollow Art ever since but Merin said the quality was too low to be sold for money, so he had been working over it even since.

Zephyr sighed his mind racing back to what his eyes had shown him. For one he knew he was in deep shit.

The princess knew he was a transmigrator. Well he didn’t know if she could make sense of his rumbling but he was sure she was suspecting him now. She did indeed came back from the future.

And that brought his attention to something else, if he did gain his memory when he was about to kill the princess why didn’t know, instead his memory showed him how he came to that bathhouse and faltered at the last moment.

’keeping that aside, if she killed me. How the hell am I alive’. That was a mystery to him, his eye had clearly shown him how he’d died, his throat was split with her fingernail. He was sure it had something to do with a hollow Art and she certainly didn’t kill him with just her fingernail no matter how sharp it was.

’back to the topic, why the hell am I alive’. Was his death interfered by someone it something. He naturally begun to suspect the eye, but the eye clearly shown that he didn’t have an iota of Aether drifting untop his veins.

Because he hasn’t only seen it, he had felt it and lived it.

But another upsetting fact was that her left eye also held the same presence his eye held, except it was stronger.

’she clearly have an idea what there are’. He did hear her muttering heavenly restricted phantasm. Whatever that was.

But asking her was out of the equation, she did kill him once and he wasn’t sure she wouldn’t do it again.

"What are you thinking about?"

Zephyr nearly yelped but caught himself just in time.

’How did she get here?’. He turned his head slowly.

Camila was lying beside him in her own bed, but it had somehow drifted next to his without him noticing. She was in soft, slightly oversized pajamas, her red hair fanned across her pillow like a silk curtain. One arm propped up her head, the other idly tracing the edge of her blanket. Her crimson eyes roamed across his face, curious and unguarded.

Zephyr blinked. How hard had he been staring.

’What was the question again?’

Just as he opened his mouth to speak, she interrupted with a quiet, guilty murmur.

"I’m sorry," she said. Her gaze dipped for a moment, and her voice softened. "And also".

Then, in a sudden shift of tone, she added with a teasing smirk.

"Don’t get the wrong idea—I only sneak into girls’ beds. You’re safe... mostly."

Zephyr’s brain short-circuited. ’Wait—what?’

Before he could form a coherent response, the floor under Camila’s bed rippled. The surface of the floor shimmered like disturbed water, and her entire bed glided sideways across the room, flowing soundlessly. That was how she’d ended up beside him—not walking, but drifting.

The phenomenon ended as quickly as it had begun, the floor snapping back to stillness with a quiet shimmer. Her bed now rested firmly beside another student but her teasing smirk never left her face. She even took it upon her self to wink at him.

Zephyr’s thoughts froze.

"Don’t worry she teases everyone all the time". Zephyr schooled his bewildered face then turned to glare at Oliver.

"Why should I worry?, I don’t care if she swings that way". Oliver gave him a suspicious look then said in a strange tone.

"Really?".

"Yes really".

"You sure? you had a dumfounded look on your face. I was sure you would cry any moment so I had t—

"Do you ever stop you damn yap".

"I was just saying it’s okay to like someone as beautiful as her, hell even I am attracted to her, but my chances are slim an—

"Weren’t you ’sleeping’ just now".

"I was, until I heard the mess going on by my side, so I had to help. You know I wouldn’t want you to come to the Tower one day and see the love of your life getting felt up under the moonlight and then have to take drugs in order to battle depression".

At a point Oliver’s eyes became vacant as he stared blankly at the celling.

"M- my condolences".

Oliver finally snapped out of him nostalgia and quickly said. "No need for that... I-it’s just something I saw on a movie". Then he turned to the other side while trembling.

Zephyr didn’t say anything anymore but inwardly. ’why the hell am I feeling relief’.
