Chapter 114: Attack on seth

When Zephyr stepped through the portal, just like he expected, the field was quiet and empty.

He didn’t bother looking around. He already knew— no one was here. They were either still hunting for their Source or had gone back to their clans.

So, he turned and headed to the place he had stayed when he was still part of Samantha’s squad.

When he arrived, it was quiet. Dust shimmered faintly in the air, proof that no one had been around in a while.

He walked to his old room, his thoughts blank, emotions dulled. He tore off what was left of the ragged clothes clinging to his body.

In the bathroom, he turned on the hot water and leaned against the marble wall. The warmth soaked into his skin, easing the pain and tension in his muscles.

But the weight in his chest didn’t fade.

Now, standing in front of the fogged-up mirror, he just stared.

The tap kept running. The room filled with steam until the mist hovered at his waist.

"Am I missing something?" Zephyr muttered.

Ever since he returned from his Nexus, he had been restless. A strange feeling gnawed at him, like he had forgotten something important— but what?

He sighed and left the bathroom. He dried off and dressed in a black turtleneck shirt, pants, boots, and a coat.

As he stepped out of the house, he ran into Nedia.

She had long green hair, light green eyes, and wore a white glove on her right hand. An oversized jacket hung off her shoulders, and her shorts clung to her creamy thighs. She looked even prettier than the last time he saw her.

"Wassup, Zephyr. You’ve changed". she said casually.

"How so?". Zephyr asked, slightly caught off guard by her outfit.

"Well, no one’s here. So, why not dress the way I want?". Nedia seen to have noticed his lingering gaze.

"Oh." Zephyr nodded, and the two of them began walking slowly.

"You’ve been back long?" Zephyr asked, trying to make conversation.

"Yeah. I had everything I needed even before the Source hunt started. The past year’s been kinda boring."

Zephyr paused.

"Last year?"

She nodded. "Don’t worry, the battle royale’s still a month away. The rest of the students start arriving tomorrow."

Zephyr stopped listening after that. In his mind, he had only been in Limbo for three days. But in reality... almost a year had passed.

"You okay? You look tense," Nedia said with concern.

"I’m fine," Zephyr answered. "Just thinking."

"About what?"

He hesitated, then gave in. Maybe talking would help. Maybe he was just overwhelmed.

"I keep feeling like I forgot something."

"Huh... funny. Noctis said the same thing," she smiled. "He got so caught up chasing the third princess that he forgot he even had a clan or a father."

At the word clan, Zephyr’s eyes narrowed.

"Serena..."

How could he have forgotten her?

He clenched his fist, ready to rush off and book a transport, but then— he froze.

Something was wrong. He turned his head.

Nedia’s hand— her gloved right hand— was resting on his shoulder.

"Stay safe," she said softly.

He stared at her for a moment. A strange feeling came from that glove. Not fear, exactly— just... danger. His instincts tensed.

She removed her hand, probably thinking he was just uncomfortable. Zephyr blinked, nodded, and walked away quickly.

Nedia stood still, watching until he was gone from view.

Then she turned and calmly walked back to her own place, she didn’t stop in the living room. She went straight to her bedroom.

The moment the door shut behind her, a voice hissed from the shadows— sounding dangerously close to that of a snake.

"Did you get it?"

A snake slithered into the light. Its body was pale white, but its humane eyes glowed a sharp blue.

Nedia didn’t answer right away. She raised her gloved hand and poured a sliver of Aether into it, then a swirling ball of energy appeared, flickering like it could vanish at any second.

"Yes". She said.

If Zephyr had been here, he would’ve recognized it immediately.

It was his Aether.

The snake’s cold face twisted into a creepy grin. A long tongue unrolled and wrapped around the the trashing Aether. Then it swallowed it whole.

Its smile widened—too human for a snake.

"Well done. That completes the first part of the plan".

That glove was a treasure called Depth of a theft, it was more of a title than a name.

No one knew who made it, but the book said it first appeared in the Warring Era. A simple white glove.

The first person to use it was a nameless thief who found it buried in the ruins of a broken battlefield. He didn’t know what it was, but when he wore it, the runes fed information into his mind— it stole Aether.

At that time war was a raging reoccurrence, no one had the time to be crafting weapons when they needed to survive.

With a simple handshake, he could strip someone of their power. The glove had different stages, first it stile pure Aether then it could steal Aether with attributes, then bloodlines, then it could finally cripple someone, by stealing their ability to refine aether

For a while, he became a ghost in the dark. Kings and lords feared him. But power, stolen or not, always draws confidence.

In his attempt to steal the bloodline of Demios, he was caught in the middle of a battle between the Demios Clan and the Ambrose Clan— long before Ambrose joined the royal bloodline.

No one knows which side killed him. When the smoke cleared, his body was gone. So was the glove.

Time passed. The Depth of a thief became a rumor. And also served as a lesson for those who carved excessive powers.

Then along the line, it turned up again—

hidden in a box of shiny things hoarded by a little girl who loved beautiful objects.

She gifted it to Weasel after she saved her. Weasel was part of the main character crew, no one knew her real name, at least not until after he wonderful night with Noctis.

Nedia glanced at the creature. She knew it wasn’t Keal himself— just one of his avatars. She hadn’t seen the real Keal in a long time. He hadn’t even shown up to any group meetings. Always doing things on his own. Always vanishing.

Still... he made this plan happen.

Even though Nedia was also a transmigrator, and her knowledge was equal to Keal’s. She fell a bit short of having the same prowess as him.

Before she could purchase the minor treasures scattered across the school, it was also gone, purchased by state someone.

She only came to that it was Keal’s doing when he allowed her to chose from his stash as a member of his group.

She refocused on Keal when his avatar spat out a treasure, it was the artifact called charm. It only had one enhancement, the wielder couldn’t be killed.

She wasn’t sure that Keal even knew what it did, after the horrible ender, a side story was released at the last minute and she had read it.

In the side story these ear rings was the reason Curtis was able to return from the valley of the end— unharmed.

The valley of the end was given the name because of the extreme number of deaths. Curtis and his team had retrieved a Artifact but Black Omnibus intercepted them, his teammates were killed but he ran straight into valley of the end, where ever the Black Omnibus dare to not follow.

The reason was given in the side story and also the characteristics of that Artifact.

It would only reveal it’s enhancement after three years of constantly wearing it. The requirement was so crippling that if it wasn’t for the imminent war she wouldn’t have used all her credit in Keal’s group to exchange for it.

But the enhancement made up for the wait, after three years the enhancement could be used, the enhancement was also called charm.

As long as you weren’t and entire two realm above her rank you would fall under the category of being bewitched. Her opponent wouldn’t bear to harm her, and instead actively try to protect her.

And the fact that Keal was giving it to her made the fact clear that he didn’t know what it did.

She careful wrapped the ear rings in a piece of cloth, she was going to rinse it later and start wearing it as soon as possible.

"Why do you even need that junk for. I didn’t to take you to be a girl that chased after diamonds". A puzzled voice sounded from the snake.

"I am a girl". She rolled her eyes at Keal, while keeping the wrapped ear rings in her jacket. Her power was related to her mind, so she had no problem mimicking a ’matter of fact’ voice and changing her face to a ’duh’ expression.

"And besides are we really going to be attacking Seth". She wasn’t keen on the idea, her part was to infiltrate his mind and gain knowledge, being that he wasn’t a part of extinction or contamination, his knowledge wasn’t going to corrupt her. But at the same time he was a skin walker after all.

"That’s why we delayed the plan until we got to Delta rank. You do know he can’t ascend through ranks and can only release a aether signature of that rank fooling everyone. We need that technique". Keal stopped before continuing. "And now that we have Zephyr’s Spatial Aether we can open Valhalla".

Valhalla was an actual place, the resting place of the dead, but they couldn’t and wouldn’t try to open it.

The artifact Keal was referring to was an artifact name after Valhalla because it serves as a gateway to another realm.

A ruined realm, it served as a domain of sort. This was where they would be battling Seth, no one knew that Seth was a skin walker and at carelessly attacking him would be counter productive, even if they succeeded how would they explain their knowledge of Skin walkers.

That was where Valhalla came in, it would transfer them to this ruined realm that couldn’t be seen or felt by anyone.

But it needed Spatial Aether before it could become useable and that was were Zephyr came in.

Keal had approached Zephyr a year ago, inviting him to join the club. But who would have known he would reject the offer, it didn’t make any sense, he was alone and clueless in a new world. Wasn’t it common sense for them to stick together.

Zephyr refusal places a stop to his plan, his plan was delayed and entire year, a year worth of progress was gone.

So in his anger he followed through with another plan. If he couldn’t get it after asking nicely then he would get it without asking.

Just as he told Zephyr, he wasn’t special. This world divided people into two groups— useful and useless. Someone would only approach you if you were useful.

Thinking about this a revange plan came to his mind. With a sky grin he turned to Nedia.

"What if i add Zephyr to the plan". He could see the frown gracing Nedia’s face.

"I thought he didn’t want to join".

"Wouldn’t it be more convenient if I add Zephyr". He asked again.

After a while she replied. "I guess it would boost the percentage of us winning".

"Good". With that he slithered into the shadows.
