Chapter 50: Chapter 49 - A Dream Body

The person who broke the silence in the courtroom was King Vladislav. "Then, how did you survive while Andrei died with his head split apart from his body?"

"Did you see the giant block of ice in the middle of the field earlier, Your Majesty?"

"Yes."

"When I thought I was going to end up at the hands of my own father, the ice block suddenly broke and a demon emerged from inside. A battle ensued between Andrei and the demon."

"Did the demon only attack Andrei?"

"That’s right, Your Majesty. It seems that the demon was somehow hostile towards Andrei. Then, when Andrei killed the demon and it disappeared, I took advantage of Andrei’s weakness and..."

"You ended up beheading your father, is that right?!"

Lev pretended that it was difficult to say that he had beheaded his own father.

As Lev recounted what had happened, Astaroth kept staring between Lev’s face and King Vladislav’s face. His face was confused and he kept refuting everything Lev said.

"What? That’s not true."

"Why would I focus on attacking that person? I don’t even know him."

"What? Do you believe this child?"

Of course, since no one could hear him, Astaroth ended up wasting his breath.

"Is it possible that the demon was too stupid to fight Andrei, who is stronger than you, instead of focusing on killing you?"

"It’s possible, Your Majesty."

Hearing the conversation between King Vladislav and Lev, Astaroth became even more frantic until he finally stuck out his tongue and breathed heavily like a dog.

Lev ignored Astaroth’s strange behavior and focused only on King Vladislav.

"Even though Andrei somehow radiates a demonic aura, the fact is that I have killed my own father. I will leave the final decision in your hands, Your Majesty."

Lev lowered both knees, posing as if he was ready to accept public execution if King Vladislav really wanted to punish him that way.

"Hmm. If that is the case. It seems that you are not guilty. Considering your situation at that time, if you hadn’t killed Andrei, it was likely that you would have ended up being a cold corpse."

Hearing King Vladislav’s words, Lev smiled.

’It’s time to demand something.’

"If you think my decision to kill my own father was right, then may I ask you something?"

"What is it?"

"Why was I tortured so cruelly even before the truth was revealed, Your Majesty?"

Lev brought up the fact that he had been tortured so badly that he could no longer use his right hand and that both of his eyes had been blinded.

He spoke in a casual tone, but behind his casual words lay a clear intention to demand justice.

Perhaps because King Vladislav already knew where Lev was going with this, he immediately closed the trial.

***

By this time, Lev had already left the courtroom and was escorted out of the Eira’Volen palace.

In a place not far from the main building of the palace, he was told to stand in a magic circle.

The magic circle was on a snowy slope. If you were an ordinary person—a weak person, you would definitely be scared because if you slipped just a little bit, you could immediately roll into a snowball.

It was the transfer gate for people to come and go from the palace.

Many soldiers guarded the place even though it was in the open and the terrain was extreme.

It could be said that the transfer gate was the only way to the palace of Eira’Volen in the Thalvorn mountains.

Lev, along with the ordinary people who had testified that Lev was innocent were placed on top of the transfer gate.

The people’s legs were obviously still shaking violently. Perhaps it was both the cold and the fear of heights?

They must have also come by the transfer gate after King Vladislav ordered to bring them into the courtroom, so it was a bit strange that they were still afraid.

When the light devoured everyone, Lev was at the foot of the mountain in the blink of an eye.

At the foot of the mountain, there were still some ordinary people who had not been brought to the courtroom in Eira’Volen palace to give testimony.

Seeing a familiar face make it out safely, they immediately cheered.

Not all of them recognized Lev’s face, so they initially ignored him.

But after they were introduced by someone who recognized his face, they immediately bowed and thanked him.

Lev simply nodded and told them to return to where they came from, no longer to the Dreamhouse Brothel where they had been staying all this time.

"You can go home in peace. Andrei’s minions will no longer seek you out to silence you."

Unlike those ordinary people, Lev was placed in a horse-drawn carriage.

At the foot of the mountain where the transfer gate was located, there was a simple, luxurious building for ordinary people. Unfortunately, it only contained horse carriages for the royal family.

Lev, with the help of the cane given by Harlequeen, tried to grope his way up the stairs to the carriage and climbed in.

Once inside the carriage, the coachman immediately spurred the horses to head into the Razanov family’s private mansion.

This was a special treatment as part of the compensation for the torture inflicted on him. Of course, this was not all.

He was also promised other compensation.

In the next few days, he would be summoned to the palace again.

For now, he was given the choice of either waiting in the palace or returning to his private mansion and he chose to return to the Razanov family’s private mansion.

"Are you satisfied after destroying my good name among the humans?"

Inside the carriage, Astaroth looked extremely annoyed. He folded his arms in front of his chest and raised his chin as if to give the impression that he was superior.

"Did I ever mention your name?"

"...You’re right."

"I just said the word demon without telling them your name."

"Come to think of it, it seems I’ve never told you my name. Are you not curious about the name of this great demon?"

"No."

When Lev replied briefly, Astaroth seemed to become even more annoyed. Without being asked by anyone, he began to echo his own name in the air.

"Remember it well. My name is Astaroth. Not even the demon queen dares to confront me. In the demonic realm, I can freely roam anywhere without fearing anyone!"

He began to boast about himself.

His eyes narrowed and his nose snorted loudly. He seemed to be saying, "Praise me, praise me, praise!" However, he looked strange because he was shaped like a flying bat.

"If you’re that good, how did you get expelled from the demonic realm?"

"Who said I was expelled from there? I went to the human world of my own free will!"

Hearing Astaroth’s explanation, he became curious about how he could go to the human world, while the portal connecting the demonic realm and the human realm had not yet opened.

It had always been possible for demons to come and invade the human world. However, they were just mindless demons.

Nowhere in recorded history was there a demon that could talk—let alone one that acted like a child, just like Astaroth for example.

’Should I force him to tell me his past?’

"I’ll pretend to believe that you really came to the human world of your own free will. However, why did you end up sealed away by the Razanov family members?"

"Umm. Well, that..."

He became a little stuttering when Lev asked the question about why he was sealed away.

He did tell a story about how he had risen from the seal thirty years ago but was sealed again by all the Razanov family members. From that story, doesn’t it mean that he had been sealed long before that?!

"...That’s a boring story to hear. Instead of that, it’s better for you to give me a physical body so that I can help you more in the future."

"Is there a physical body in this world that you want?" Lev placed the walking cane on his lap. ’Does he want King Vladislav’s body?’

If it was by the standards of a demon who was known to be a strength enthusiast, then King Vladislav’s physical body must have looked very attractive because King Vladislav was one of the strongest individuals on this continent.

"When we were in the courtroom earlier, I surprisingly detected a demon soul in one of the humans there."

Astaroth then described the characteristics of the person he was referring to without even him asking for it—someone who had a thick beard, and shabby cloak, but underneath those robes were truly monstrous muscles... that was the brief description that came out of Astaroth’s mouth.

Astaroth’s hand also held his chin as if demonstrating how Wyatt posed.

"You’re not surprised?"

"I already knew. You mean the one sitting near King Vladislav, right? His name is Wyatt."

For some reason, when Lev said King Vladislav’s name, a thick frown immediately formed on Astaroth’s forehead. However, Astaroth seemed unwilling to bring up the matter of his expression changing towards King Vladsilav’s name.
