Chapter 66: Chapter 66: What? I, the Golden Monarch, got backstabbed?! (Secretly updated, shocked everyone)
Spiritual Purity determines the strength of one’s resistance to an Evil God’s corruption. Moreover, powerful Extraordinary Equipment requires spiritual materials of higher purity.
"Are you saying that these materials were brought by Chu Yi?" Qin Shi’s eyes widened, his breath catching in his throat.
Jiang Qiuyun nodded, her slender, jade-like neck particularly captivating, silently affirming his guess.
She understood. To persuade the military to seek out Chu Yi, they had to demonstrate his value. His ability to treat Spirit Cores like mere snacks indicated that Chu Yi wasn’t lacking them; rather, he had them in abundance.
"Currently, no Transcendent Technology can achieve this level of purity."
Professor Liu grabbed Qin Shi’s arm, exclaiming excitedly, "Director, quickly! Go find him, quickly!"
"Do you realize what this means? A completely new energy source! It will bring a new era of change to our Beast Taming World!"
"Such a tiny particle, only the size of a grain of rice, yet of extreme purity! If infused into a weapon, it could theoretically slay a Silver-level demon!"
"If made into protective clothing, it could resist corruption for a very long time!"
"..."
He passionately described the future of this new energy; if truly developed, Transcendent Technology would take a revolutionary leap forward.
Qin Shi immediately summoned his subordinates, dispatching a team to investigate Chu Yi’s whereabouts.
However, with a great war imminent, the current priority was to intercept the demon army.
A group of Golden Beast Tamers gathered, each revealing their Pet Beasts.
The branch president of the Yaoguang City Beast Taming Guild, a distinguished-looking, handsome middle-aged man, stared gravely at the distant Golden Monarch and said, "Legend says the Brass Cage is the dimension of a mighty being. Its master, the Brass Dragon, is the incarnation of the cage itself—the will of that dimension."
"Therefore, the God of Flesh and Blood must be attempting to smuggle itself in and has not awakened the Brass Dragon."
"This is the perfect opportunity for us to assassinate it."
He suggested they wait for the Beast Taming Tower to blast open a bloody path, then they could encircle and attack the Golden Monarch to interrupt the summoning. The problem was that the corruption encountered when battling demons would twist, defile, and tarnish one’s Spirituality.
This suggestion was met with agreement from the other team members.
In the next instant—
BOOM—
In the distance, a plume of gray haze shot into the sky, with billowing smoke forming an ever-twisting, writhing mass of grayish-white fog!
A rustling sound spread through the air.
An aura of chaos, madness, and depravity surged outwards, radiating across the entire Bloody Wilderness. Within the fog, a shadowy figure resembling a humanoid squid gradually emerged.
The demons, which had been sweeping forward in a crimson tide, suddenly slowed, all turning to look in that direction.
In the military camp, everyone was utterly dumbfounded.
The... the second Evil God had appeared!
Damn it all! Qin Shi’s scalp prickled. The first one hadn’t even been dealt with, and now a second Evil God had appeared!? How could they possibly fight now!?
The morale in the military camp instantly collapsed! With two Evil Gods descending at once, how could they possibly fight?
"It’s over," Wang Xuan’s pupils constricted violently; the world seemed to spin around him.
One half of the sky was steeped in dusk, the other an endless gray mist.
At this moment, the air grew heavy, the atmosphere taut with unbearable tension. Most of the Beast Tamers in the camp wore expressions of despair, feeling as if they were being cruelly toyed with by fate. They weren’t afraid of sacrifice, but to die so meaninglessly, to become mere playthings and food for two Evil Gods—how unbearably cruel.
"Qiuyun, Catherine, follow me later. We’ll head to Yuhang City!" Qin Shi gritted his teeth and said solemnly, "Yaoguang City cannot withstand the invasion of two Evil Gods. Unsurprisingly, the Federation will abandon Yaoguang City and seal it off."
"Just like Anhuai City before it, Yaoguang City will become a Forbidden Land."
Jiang Qiuyun nodded, not refusing. She could not die before she challenged that man.
How were two Evil Gods able to break through the blockade... Huh? Something’s happening? Qin Shi’s face was grim; he suddenly froze.
Because the Evil God within the gray mist merely extended a tentacle, and Grek, the Golden Monarch who was in the midst of conducting the summoning ritual, was directly swallowed by the gray mist. A series of soft, rustling, gnawing sounds followed.
What in the...
Infighting?
The Evil Gods are fighting each other?
The summoning was interrupted. The God of Flesh and Blood sprouted countless vertical pupils, all fixed intently on the gray mist as it uttered a low whisper.
"Clouds shatter... Twin suns sink by the lake’s edge..."
"On this strange night, the black star ascends..."
"The strange moon lingers at the zenith..."
Grek chanted his incantations, and the majestic Golden Power within him grew increasingly concentrated and profound. He himself could be considered a Sewn Monster, a conglomeration of over a dozen Commander-level Pet Beasts, thereby possessing the abilities of numerous powerful creatures.
Around the Golden Road, crimson flesh and splintered bones filled the air, and a sickening stench spread wildly, pervading the entire area.
All the cultists, having received their Lord’s ’blessing,’ abruptly began to twist and transform, undergoing grotesque, cancerous mutations. They began to sprout additional heads and arms. Some became horrifying amalgamations—a fleshy ball of mouths and eyes sewn together. Others had feathers erupting from various parts of their bodies, or were covered in densely packed, bulging pustules from which countless tentacles writhed and flailed madly...
The escalating level of corruption also signified that the Lord’s descent was proceeding very successfully. Grek was extremely satisfied.
During the Blood Moon three days prior, an Ancient One had broken through the blockade, tearing a large hole in the barrier protecting Yaoguang City’s perimeter. This had presented Grek with a once-in-a-millennium opportunity. He had abandoned the ritual of summoning the five Flesh Eggs, instead using this still-unrepaired breach to help the God of Flesh and Blood smuggle itself into their world.
Come to think of it, this was surely the handiwork of the Master of Gray Mist. He really should thank them properly for this.
Just then, the space around Grek distorted, and wisps of gray mist began to coil around him.
In the next instant, his figure flickered and was abruptly pulled over a hundred li away. His massive, dragon-like body was dragged into a hazy gray mist, and he felt sharp, gnawing pains from all his limbs.
Grek: What the—?!
His mind was still reeling. What was the meaning of this?
Had the Gray Mist Sect decided to turn on him?
Had he been betrayed?
I, Grek, the Golden Monarch, descendant of the Gold lineage from the Dark Era, King of the City That Never Sets... I’ve actually been betrayed!?
Grek was incandescent with rage, his aged face twisting into an even more distorted mask.
"Barbarian King’s Fist!"
Without a word, four thick arms burst from beneath his cloak. He unleashed his power, and though a shockwave of air erupted around him, his Golden Power was sealed, preventing him from unleashing his full Commander-level strength.
Grek’s pupils shrank sharply.
Suppression!
This was the suppression of an Ancient Evil God!
"Your soul, your very existence... I will accept it all," a slender figure in a Profound Robe glanced at Grek and said dispassionately, under the adoring, frenzied, and awestruck gazes of the Gray Mist Cultists.
His left hand fully activated the Star Track Mark. An immense torrent of gray mist surged out, obscuring everything and shielding them from any external detection. This was an ability of the Master of Gray Mist. Until its Soul Erosion reached 100%, it remained under Chu Yi’s control.
Nearby, Asa’s head seemed to split open like a grotesque flower with twelve petals; he was quivering with an excitement that bordered on ecstasy.
Look at what he was witnessing!
His magnificent Lord, with unfathomable wisdom, had orchestrated such a grand stratagem, effortlessly manipulating the Life Sect!
The Golden Monarch, the so-called representative of the God of Flesh and Blood, whom he had once revered as high and mighty, was now no better than a beaten cur, kneeling and trembling at his Lord’s feet!
