Chapter 753: Chapter 753 Envy Arrives (1)_1
"Ridding the folks of scourge..." Priest He did not understand, "Your Excellency, do you have a grudge against this man?"
"To say grudge, I dare not claim, but I’ve heard from a master diviner that this man has an extraordinary origin. Let’s see if you can divine it!" Mo Heng said, watching him coldly.
"This..." Priest He hesitated, "It seems Your Excellency has met a true master. I am skilled in fortune-telling and bone divination, resolving karmic disasters, predicting the future."
Meaning he wasn’t proficient in divining past events.
"If you could really divine her origin, you wouldn’t live to tell it!" Mo Heng said, instructing Zhang Gengshan, "Bring ten taels of silver!"
Zhang Gengshan complied promptly, soon handing ten taels of silver to Priest He.
Seeing how straightforwardly he was sent off, Priest He glanced at the ten taels of silver, chuckled, "I read fortunes for others based on fate, for those fated, not a penny is taken." He picked up his whisk, swept it once, and drifted away.
Zhang Gengshan watched him leave the house, out of Liu’er Alley, and had someone follow him.
Pei Qian was somewhat puzzled, "Brother-in-law! What he said, it was false, wasn’t it?"
"Don’t know whose handiwork this is." Malice surged in Mo Heng’s eyes.
Upon hearing this, Pei Qian’s face turned grim, "Could it be that Liang San who sent someone to assassinate elder sister? What kind of mess is she stirring up again? Is she planning to harm someone!?"
"Have the people at home stay alert, look after your elder sister when I’m not around!" Apart from the dumb guard Liu Feng, Mo Heng had secretly arranged people to protect Pei Qin. But Pei Qin was too unpredictable, the guards couldn’t restrain her, only Pei Qian could manage her.
Pei Qian acknowledged, "I know, brother-in-law!"
By the time Mo Heng returned to the backyard, Pei Qin was wandering around in the yard, obviously eavesdropping just before.
Pei Qin chuckled, "Was it a swindler? Did you drive him away?"
Mo Heng was somewhat helpless, "You, behave and rest at home these few days! I’ll take care of the workshop."
"What for? House arrest? Or solitary confinement?" Pei Qin rolled her eyes at him and turned back to her room.
Mo Heng’s handsome face grew stern. He followed her into the room and saw her using tongs to peel walnuts. Approaching, he grasped her hand, "Qinqin! Please listen to me and don’t make me worry."
Pei Qin sighed, "I’m not a monster..." Her hand was nearly crushed and she quickly conceded, "I’ll be good!"
Mo Heng let go of her hand and embraced her.
"Had enough hugs? If you’re done, peel walnuts for your old lady!" Pei Qin shouted from within his embrace. Every time he hugged her, he would press her face into his chest.
Mo Heng rubbed the top of her head and sat down to peel walnuts for her.
As Pei Qin peeled and ate, she mused, "The misfortune heads one way to the south, another to the north, should we not consider expanding horizontally?" Dammit, just let him finish speaking east, south, west, north.
"I’ve already suffered a financial loss giving the gold mine to Xiao Guangbi," Mo Heng said as he handed her a walnut kernel, "Don’t eat too many raw ones, I’ll make you walnut milk tomorrow."
The last time she was pregnant with Jiujiu, Pei Qin didn’t even like walnut milk, but this pregnancy changed all her tastes.
Speaking of Xiao Guangbi, Pei Qin’s mood soured. He had started entrusting Mo Heng with quite a few dark deals.
Xiao Guangbi still did not trust Mo Heng, even though he survived an assassination and sustained injuries, and although the gold mine was presented to him, Mo Heng didn’t seem loyal enough in his eyes. To tie Mo Heng to his own ship, he needed to hold Mo Heng’s weaknesses in his hand. Thus, he had to entrust Mo Heng with some shady businesses. If Mo Heng made any moves, he could rightfully eliminate him with these leverages in hand.
After Priest He left Liu’er Alley, the villagers became more convinced of the extraordinary significance of the Jade Cabbage Sculpture that Fang Hui had broken. Otherwise, why would they have invited a Taoist to their home?
