The Eight Empresses Betrayed Me, Only to Deeply Regret It After Being Reborn

I can't be bothered to put specific spoiler tags, this whole review contains those, you've been informed.

When writing reviews, I am of the verdict that it needs to be unbiased and fair, lifting up both positives and negatives. Yet, this novel has left me feeling empty, sad and hollow inside. I cannot even care about the positives at this point. I want to write a review to keep you away from this mess...

I won't bother writing a structured review, I don't have the heart for it. I don't care about the grammar either. I'll write and finish. I legitimately want to write this and be done with it, never talk about it again. I am featuring spoilers which I personally deem that you should know before starting this show.

In the beginning I was loving it. A revenge story? Sounds good. There are plenty of good ones out there such as 'The main heroines are trying to kill me' and 'The Reincarnated Villain Makes The Heroines Tearfully Beg for Forgiveness'. The premise is that our MC, before attaining sainthood was betrayed by his eight lovers, all at the empress levels (hence their title as empress). During the ascension, while clashing with a former saint, the empresses backstab him, each with a poison of their own. The former saint took pity upon him and threw him into the river of time, alongside the empresses, which allowed them all to go back in time...

The MC wants nothing to do with these women, keeping away, not even initiating communication with them. He is fed up, rightfully, with them. Before you start attacking me about my low review score, I'm not a white knight, nor a so-called simp. I'm not giving a bad score to defend the women here. They are written like trash, and make this whole novel feel like a trashy 'sigma' novel where the MC is emotionless, doesn't care about others and is just needs to be a bad*ss. Currently, up to 144, there are only 5 empresses introduced: 1. Yue Hongling, junior sister under same master; 2. Bai Qiulan, the master; 3. Shangguan Huanling, a foolish princess of a kingdom; 4. Vermilion Bird, a little phoenix; 5. Chu Ling, MCs Maidservant.

The reason each empress betrays the MC is SOOOO FOOLISH. I gave it the benefit of the doubt early, and supported our MC (Lu Ye). But the more I read, the more dumb and stupid everything felt. By chapter 130, everything started becoming pointless. Author made the females unredeemble and here's why:

Yue HongLing betrayed him since she 'had feelings' for this other dude who was planning on kidnapping her to force MC to a trap. So she hated him for a while, then after thousands of years remembered him again???? Like what? WHatr? whsatgs+a>? And after the reincarnation, she says things such as: 'It was only one mistake forgive me', 'even saint can make mistakes', 'Lu Ye, you have changed'. LIKE WHAT`? WHAT? HE CHANGED BECAUSE YOU EIGHT LOVERS BACKSTABBED HIM. AND ONE MISTAKE ONLY?`IF KILLING HIM IS ONE MISTAKE`, IS BREATHING ANOTHER?????

Bai Qiulan betrayed him since she did not wish for them to break their Master and disciple relationship... YES SHE WAS PLANNING TO KILL HIM FOR THAT! And the funniest part is that SHE LONGS FOR HIM AFTER REINCARNATING AND THAT MC DUAL CULTIVATED WITH HER TO SAVE HER LIFE. Oh and I forgot, SHE SAID SHE LOVED HIM DURING IT. Then she says it was under the moment. Garbage writing once again.

Shangguan Huanling betrayed him since she though that she could reach the same heights alone... without the MC helping... WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU MEAN? She lost her dao of affection, and started blaming the MC, WHO GAVE HER ALL THE LOVE POSSIBLE. THE MAN DID EVERYTHING FOR HER. Pathetic.

Chu Ling is even worse. Her family was planning on refining her to complete a demonic sword. So the MC in the original time locked her away. Once she was allowed to go there, everybody was dead and started blaming the MC. Then she started hating him just because she was his servant???? Like what?? He loved you, did everything for you, but because you were once his servant, you kill him???? Worst part, once they go back in time, and understands what kind of trash her family was. She start sobbing and asking for FORGIVENESS. This took 7, only 7 f*cking chapters.

The Vermilion Bird betrayed him due to how he slaughtered the demon race. The former demon emperor basically was able to parasite different organisms through his innate ability. She knows it, and MC knows it. So MC starts killing the parasitic hosts to end this guy once and for all. But she starts doubting him, about the parasitic ability, and considers the MC to be a psychopathic murderer... SHE SAID SHE KNEW IT IN HER HEART ALL ALONG???? WHY START DOUBTING NOW? Worst part? She found an ability locked in a vault, which the supposed demon emperor used, but oh wait, it's not the right one, SO SHE KILLED MC DESPITE BEING WRONG AND NEVER TRYING TO CONFRONT HIM.

Dumb, dumb and more dumb. The author wrote miserable female characters with 0 redeeming traits, 0 personality, 0 iq, 0 everything. What is this? They are supposed to be the bread and butter of the show. The title is all about them. The worst part is that the dumber the empresses are, the dumber the MC becomes. Because he was the one who kept them by his side despite them actually starting to hate him. AND HE SAW THE LOOK IN THEIR EYES MORE THAN ONE TIME. Like if somebody looks like they are going to murder you, you stay the f away. But nooooo, he is portrayed as this selfless saviour with only love for them. Sure I can accept that. But the author ruining this whole novel by making the females stupid, killing them, and the MC being derived joy from it? Total trash.

Rather than being a revenge story, it's more of a hilarious comedy with how the character writing ruins the whole show. The MC being cold and emotionless makes sense after being betrayed. But the females are total garbage due to the Authors doing. Somebody had written that this novel is for people who enjoy seeing females being humiliated and male superiority and it totally sums up the novel for me.

If it was a revenge story with ACTUAL GOOD FEMALE CHARACTERS, rather than dumb woman 1, 2, 3... 8, then I would not mind this novel and would have given it a solid 4.

The MC has some cool moments and the system is fun. But:

[story] is 1/5, has too few explanation of important concepts, no lore either

[World] is 1/5, never explained fully, skipped content regularly.

[Side characters] is 1/5, besides Sun Ruowei, nobody else is relevant

[Action] is 3/5, good but not amazing

[Female Characters (8 empresses)] is -99/5, totally trash due to author being incapable of writing decent female characters.

[MC] is 0/5, just making an emotionless supposed giga-chad who totally fails to fit the part due to Author again...

I had so high expectations of this novel. Had it in my library for months.

Just to actually try the novel, have a bit of fun early, before it devolved to absolute garbage...

Wasted a total of 20 hours on this... Biggest mistake...
