Chapter 278: Came looking for trouble

"I never asked." Yakov tried to act casual as if it hadn’t bothered him. But both he and his wolf knew that they had stayed up all night to make sure, wondering if Blaise was called to the chambers where Bree usually slept. At that point, he glared at a certain man who was the cause of his sleepless night.

He had thought that he was doing a good job in pretending that he wasn’t bothered but it seemed like he didn’t do it too right. Great. Just great. Now that Ahmar had caught him, this man would tease him until he would be dying out of humiliation.

"Don’t glare at him," Ahmar remarked as he took a bite of a whole poached egg. "He will be quite smug if you give him the satisfaction."

"I heard that!"

"I wasn’t exactly whispering either," Ahmar called back as he raised his hand and caught the grape that was flung at him before popping it in his mouth. "Now you don’t want to be treated as a barbarian by our queen, do you?"

Blaise glowered at him before turning his head away and focusing on his breakfast.

Just then Bree’s scent furled over to the room before she did; that soft milky and coconut scent made the four men stiffen and Yakov turned to look at the woman. The knot in his chest eased when he saw that her skin was devoid of any signs that would mean that she slept with a man. But as he looked at her face, he noticed that Bree didn’t look good.

Her face was pale and there were circles under her eyes, which showed that she hadn’t slept well the night before. Seeing her like this, all other thoughts simply went down the drain and Yakov looked at her as if he wanted to take her into his arms and tell her that everything was going to be fine.

As he glanced at the other three men, he knew that they had the same thoughts as him. Immediately his wolf’s hackles were raised and he was looking at the men with annoyance while pacing inside of him.

Bree didn’t look at them and simply went to her seat, where she sat down and pulled a bowl of soup towards her.

He was sure that no one knew what was wrong with her. At least he saw the same confusion as him mirror on the faces of the other men who looked at Bree with the same concern when they noticed that she was missing her usual confidence. So, it seemed like she was hiding the truth from others as well. However, Yakov was sure that he would make her speak of this secret sooner or later. He knew that she was not going to tell him everything but he would make sure to draw the confession out of her.

"Is everything alright, your majesty?" Cian, who was sitting in his chair, looked at Bree; his expression wasn’t good as he was upset for sitting so far from Bree that he couldn’t even see her clearly without leaning forward.

His gaze drifted to the chair, which was next to Bree and had always been empty for it belonged to the Emperor.

Knowing that the men were concerned about her, Bree smiled and replied, "I am fine." okay, she was lying but she had no intention of telling what was happening to her to the four men. She didn’t quite trust these men to hand in the handle as delicate as that.

She hadn’t quite forgotten that they had once wanted to kill her. If they found out the truth that either Semel or her would be the one to be alive at the end, who knows what they might choose?

Ignoring the attempts of the men as they tried to pry her open, she finished her breakfast and then walked out of the room. she didn’t wish to stay there and continue with the topic, which meant that she had to leave as soon as possible.

However, just as she thought that the day couldn’t go any shittier than it already was, she received a summons from the court. Apparently, because the spoiled princess hadn’t gotten what she wanted, she had come to see her.

"I will deal with her," Cian told her when she brought up the matter in front of him. He looked more than upset over the fact that Rosalie had come to cause trouble with them when they had been very clear about the fact that they wouldn’t be handling the matter or discussing it any further.

"Are you sure?" Bree asked because the man looked like he was about to lose his sh*t.

"I am," and without waiting for Bree to tell him that she would be the one dealing with this mess, he turned on his feet and stalked out of the office. He headed past the corridor where the cold breeze ruffled his hair but it did nothing to soothe his anger.

Arriving at the guest house, he looked at the guards and asked, "Did she do anything troublesome?"

"No, she had been sitting quietly in the room," replied one of the guards after they were done bowing in front of him. "However, she didn’t look happy when we told her that she cannot go to your palace to see you, fourth consort."

Of course, she didn’t.

Rosalie must have thought that she could get anything she wanted because her father was the only living relative of the queen. When she didn’t, it must have not sat well with her.

Crossing the wooden doors, Cian slipped inside the room and then stalked to the couch where Rose was sitting. His beast hissed at the woman when she stood up and smiled at him in an uncertain and shy manner.

"Cian, hello—"

"Its fourth consort to you," clipped Cian. "Fourth consort or his highness, you can pick what you want to call me."
