Chapter 273: What secrets are they hiding?

"Now let me go!" said Nicholas with a gasp. "I don’t know anything anymore. Even if you kill me now, I will not be able to tell you a single fucking thing."

Blaise turned to look at Bree, who nodded in response. Only then did the man let go of Nicholas, letting the man slide down the wall. "Now, wasn’t it easy? You were causing trouble for no reason."

Nicholas cupped his throat and nursed the skin that had been pinched so hard that it had turned blue. "Get out," he muttered. "I don’t care about getting a place in the empire anymore; just don’t come to bother me and my people."

Bree smiled upon hearing his words as she remarked, "You are forgetting that even this territory comes under my control, Nicholas. Thus, I can come here at any moment. You have no right to stop me."

The man flashed her a sour look as he lowered his head and coughed.

"Now," Bree turned to look at the woman who was sliding behind her and asked in a polite voice, "What can I do to help you? I think there is something wrong with your feet if you are dragging them on the ground rather than walking properly."

Blaise turned to look at the woman who had tried to blindside Bree and his expression twisted. He turned to look at Nicholas, who gave a look to the woman and shook his head. Though the woman stopped moving, she still let out a snarl and glared at Bree as if she were the dominant one.

He looked at the foolish woman and turned to look at Nicholas while silently asking him where he got this fool from. Did she think that it was a sane decision to taunt a dragon shifter?

Sure enough, he felt a rush of anger and amusement flood inside of him and as he knew that it was not his cat, it had to be Saphira.

Bree’s smile widened in a feral manner as she looked at the jackal shifter before twitching her nose. "Aren’t you cute?"

Her tone didn’t sit well with the jackal shifter, which was not a surprise as Bree had used a cooing voice, which made the jackal shifter flush red with anger. She pounced on Bree.

Blaise, seeing it happen, raised his hand to stop the woman but Bree was faster. She swiped her foot that was already ablaze with flames and slammed it against the neck of the woman.

The jackal shifter let out a moan of pain as she crumpled on ground but Bree wasn’t done. She crouched down and pinned the woman on the floor with her fingers wrapped around her throat. Her claws were out and digging into the skin of the woman as she sneered, "Are we done acting stupid? Or do you have something more to show off?"

One of the males who was standing behind Nicholas wrestled forward and looked at Bree before saying, "Let her go! Even if you are the empress, you cannot kill just about anyone."

"You are wrong," stated Bree without even looking at the man. She was staring down at the woman with her dragon pushing against her surface. "As the empress, I expect nothing but loyalty from my subjects. Since you all live on my land and run an illegal pub that is yet to pay any taxes, I think you should know better than trying to blindside your queen."

She cocked her head at the woman and questioned, "So did you learn your lesson? You cannot and aren’t supposed to growl, glare, or attack your empress. The next time I see you, you better be on your knees or else I will burn this entire place down with you all trapped inside. Got it?"

The woman nodded with a hard swallow and Bree sneered, "I will hope that you are not trying to pull any sneaky move for your sake. Or else I will have no problem snapping your head off your shoulders."

As soon as she let go, the woman scampered away and Bree watched her go.

She turned on her feet and then said to Blaise, "Lets go."

The man hummed as he glanced at the jackals who were watching them leave before saying, "I will be leaving a small gift for all of you. If you dare to betray the queen, it will be your funeral."

"What—what are you going to do?!" Nicholas, whose mind was already churning, raised his head and looked at the man with shock in his eyes.

"Won’t you know if you betray my mate?" Blaise stated with a wink. "Of course that will be the last sensation you will ever feel."

"COME BACK HERE."

After speaking, Blaise strode out, leaving Nicholas fuming in the pub.

Back in the carriage, Bree found herself sitting beside Blaise, who instead of sitting opposite her, sat next to her. Bree knew that if she was to stand up and sit on the other seat, the man would follow; thus, she remained where she was. Annoyingly enough, she was very much aware of the man who was sitting next to her, even though she tried her best to ignore him.

How could she not when his cat was purring to her dragon? It was really amusing in her eyes. A cat half the size of her dragon’s claws was trying to woo her.

And to make it even more amusing. It was actually working!

The purrs of his cat made her dragon all giddy. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that his cat looked really beautiful while her dragon was scales and flames.

"I have tried to look up information about the SOD organisation," said Blaise as he flipped through a bunch of magical scrolls and books that were hovering in front of them. "However, it seems like the information is encrypted with black magic. I cannot see through it."

"Does it show what SOD stands for or means?" Bree asked.

"No." Blaise shook his head. It was so mysterious that it made him wonder what kind of secrets the Death Riders were trying to hide.
