Chapter 260: Not for exchange
King Pierre simply waved his hand as he stated, "There is no need for you to be this agitated, fourth consort. The reason I didn’t let my daughter come here is because I know that you will try to make her claim otherwise even when you were pretty much satisfied with her at some point but then again, a small fief princess can never compete with the Empress."
He then paused and added, "I have heard all about sirens and even collected information that proves that they can, if possible, sleep with other partners because, in essence, they are created to seduce and satisfy a person. So even if you have a mate, you can easily block the bond until you are with someone else."
"I am not asking you to mate with my daughter. I am only asking for a little cooperation," he looked at Bree and stated, "I only want to borrow your fourth consort for a while. Once my daughter is pregnant with his child, he can return to your side. I have nothing against it."
Cian stared at King Pierre and so did Bree and Yakov. When the three of them came here, they had planned and imagined a hundred kinds of conversation but this certainly wasn’t it. Bree frowned as she asked, "Is this what your daughter told you? That she was afraid that Cian might make her change her statement?"
The man didn’t speak but it more or less confirmed the fact that Rosalie had done such a thing.
Cian sucked in a breath; he never thought that the princess was highly delusional but now that he was done listening to her father’s claims, he was certain that she had a few nuts loose in her head.
Bree sighed before saying, "I am afraid that this is not possible —"
"What’s the problem? He is a siren and sirens are meant to please; you cannot claim that I am in the wrong," clipped King Pierre.
"I think I can claim whatever the fuck I want!" Bree bristled with a snap, causing the entire room to quiet down and King Pierre stared at her as if he was looking at some rare monster. "I don’t owe you anything. The fact that your fief, despite having poor management, is still under your control is the greatest leniency that I am showing you, King Pierre. Do not take my mercy for my weakness and demand things that you do not have the right to claim."
She raised her head and looked at the man in front of her before stating in a cool voice, "My consort is not a toy that you can give to your daughter to play with just because she is throwing a tantrum. Tell her for me that even if her daddy dearest does his best, there is no way she is getting her hands on Cian."
Her words caused King Pierre to grit his teeth. He turned to look at him, who handed him a scroll tied with a golden string. "I think this will change your mind, Your Majesty."
He unravelled the scroll and everyone looked down at it. It was the deed for the coffee farms. A deal that would certainly thrive in Bree’s hands but she didn’t reach out to touch it. Unlike the late emperor, Bree had a very good idea of how it felt when someone tried to sell their children or good friends out for the smallest benefit.
Beside her, Cian had to clench his jaw as tight as possible to stop himself from cursing like the empress. This man was simply out of his mind. Even if he could do the things King Pierre claimed, he did not desire to do them. If he did, then he would have done it a long time ago when the empress ignored him and his desires and left him to rot in the palace.
King Pierre then said to Bree, "I can help you with a lot of things, Your Majesty. I can be a good ally if you give me what I want." As he spoke, he turned to look at Cian as if he was waiting for him to jump up and agree while clapping his hands.
Cian didn’t speak.
Instead, it was Bree who spoke up in a stern tone, "You are being unreasonable, King Pierre. First of all, like I said, my consort is not up for an exchange. Something I think should be clear enough, given that I have even passed a decree to abolish slavery. I do not accept or agree with shifters being used as transactions. Secondly, my consort is his own person; I will not ask him to go against his morals or ideas just for the sake of a deal."
"I am sorry for what happened to your daughter and what she went through," Bree told him. "I truly am and I can understand her plight as well but nothing—not a single thing—can make me agree to let my husband and mate serve another woman in bed and impregnate her. Maybe your love for your daughter is blinding your eyes and making it difficult for you to see that you are asking for something completely stupid and unreasonable but I haven’t reached the point where I will sell my husbands and even if I did, I would rather die with my head raised in the air than lower it down and have my consorts serve other women for my sake."
"Anyway, if you think that sirens are the key to your trouble, then you can look for other sirens."
"Rose doesn’t want anyone else!" King Pierre banged his fists on the armrests of his chair. "She wants him and him alone. I am giving you half of the wealth of the fief and you are still refusing? Do you even know how my daughter fell apart when those shifters took her away and did such a thing to her? All I want is her happiness."
"Funny how I want the same thing for my consort," Bree got to her feet. "I want him to be happy, which is why even if you give me your entire fief, I will not agree to such a stupid deal. Like I said, tell your daughter to change her mind and look at someone else. Unless I die, she will not be getting a chance where she can sleep with my husband."
