Chapter 216: You did a great job.

" What do you mean you could not catch anyone, you useless pricks?" Duke Cilantro was furious, no he was simply beyond the point of recognising that there was nothing that the knights could do, the ones who were guarding the warehouse were killed and the rebels even hung their heads in front of the gates of the building where he has been hiding his treasury. The rebels were quick, efficient and simply ruthless, hoping to catch them was similar to asking for a miracle to happen!

The knights all dropped their heads in submission but at the same time, they exchanged a look with each other before lowering their heads. It was easy for the Duke to say such things after all he wasn’t the one who has to run around with that chubby belly of his, he can afford to act as such because of his position but the same could not be said for them.

If they ran after the rebel groups which also includes various knights that have been sacked off for all the wrong reasons then surely they would have been killed as well, and why in the world will they raise their swords against their friends? Just because the Duke asked them to do so? Did he not know why this was happening?

" Useless! All of you are useless!" The Duke had no idea what was going in the head of his knights, he looked at the lot of them, his moustache quivering and fluttering as he breathed like a bull. His aide who stood behind him tried to calm his master down, he could see the dissatisfaction that was arising in the hearts of the knights and at this moment they could not afford to lose any more knights to the rebel army, the last time the Duke fired a knight who took two more glances at the performer he was trying to woo, the latter went ahead and joined the forces of the rebels and after he did that, the other knights whose pride has been stomped on also followed suit.

Now the rebel army was getting stronger and stronger, if more knights were to join them, then it would be really troublesome.

But how can the Duke be rational enough in this situation? He was furious enough to breathe fire, the Phoenix offsprings were getting more and more difficult to handle and he even lost the chance to hunt magical creatures, the mist that surrounded the forest because of the appearance of the unicorn elves made it impossible for the nobles to record what was happening and now he had nothing to coerce the Queen and her consorts.

While his uncle was getting more and more impatient, things were getting so out of hand that he was an inch away from exploding. At such a crucial period, he lost so much money—— five warehouses! They all looted five warehouses! What was he going to do about this now? If his uncle was to find out he would definitely scold him for being too much of a useless man who could not even protect his own treasury!

The Duke raised his hand and pointed at the knights, how angry he was could be seen just from his entire being trembling like he was on the verge of collapsing. " You all go and look for those rebels, I don’t know how you are going to do it but you have to do it no matter what! Find them and bring my treasure back, if you can’t then see how I am going to set you and your families right." He paused and sneered arrogantly, " I believe that you all might have at least a sister or two, if I don’t get my money back then don’t think that I will simply sit tight and do nothing. If I don’t get my money back then all of you can start praying for your fcking families!"

Getting cosy with Yakov was definitely a bad idea but Bree didn’t seem to dislike it that much, maybe it was the fact that she finally eased some of the weight that has been pressing on her or maybe it was the fact that she has finally seen through Yakov a little but as she woke up the next day, she felt refreshed and honestly a little too refreshed actually.

She swiftly kicked off the bed and pranced around the room in nothing but her flimsy lingerie when the door of her room was pushed open and Bloom trotted in, carrying a steaming bowl of water as she placed it on the table in front of the mirror and said, " You should wash up your majesty, the ball is at the night and the Duke seemed to be preparing for it with a lot of hustle and bustle since the morning."

Bree strode towards the bowl cupped some warm water in her hands and washed her face wiping the gunk and dirt that was sticking close to the corner of her eyes and then turned to look at Bloom with a smile. " That’s what the Duke asked you to tell me, now relay what the first consort or the third consort asked you to tell me."

With a sniff Bloom took a furtive glance at the door and raised a finger as the door shut close with a gust of wind, only then did she turn around and said softly, " The first consort asked you to be prepared and do not let the Duke interfere with the plan as for the third consort he asked me to give you this," she placed a delicate bottle of perfume next to the hot water bowl. "It’s a potent antidote for all sorts of poison he said, he asked me to tell you to take a sip before you start preparing for the ball."

Bree nodded as she picked up the perfume bottle and took a good sniff of the so-called antidote, was it supposed to smell like roses with an undertone of wild cherries? " Anything else?"

" The warehouses of the Duke were robbed last night," said Bloom after a short pause as she looked at the ground and shuffled uncomfortably. " I heard it on my way when I was bringing the laundry from the laundry room, the knights were discussing it around the corner, apparently the Duke has given out orders that they need to find out who was behind it or else he will sell the young sisters of the knights to make up for the loss."

Frowning Bree placed the bottle back down on the table and asked, " The duke knows who was behind it?"

Bloom nodded. " It was the rebel army, the Duke hid it well from your majesty but there has been unrest in the territory because of his apathetic way of ruling, the commoners are dissatisfied yet the Duke does not want to listen to them so many commoners and sacked knights have come up with the plan of taking the Duke down."

Now that Bree had a good idea of what was going on with the territory, it made her feel a bit better about herself. At least not everyone wanted the Duke and the dead Emperor reigning over them, this much was enough for her. " Is there any talk about the situation that happened at the memorial centre?"

Bloom nodded her head again. " But the voices are in your favour your majesty, though many maids, butlers and workers of the Duke’s house are unsatisfied with you, according to them you are way better than your father and brother who were perfect followers of the dark magic, so there is nothing for you to worry about at the moment."

" Well that’s great," said Bree as she turned to look at Bloom and asked, " Did you hear anything else?"

" That..." Bloom couldn’t answer the question as the door of her room was pushed open and Yakov walked in, his hand was clutching a glass of what looked like freshly squeezed raspberry juice and the other hand was clutching what seemed like a tray of doughnuts. There was something different about him, she didn’t see it right away after all he still smelled of his signature perfume, his long tail coat fluttered behind him and his pants were hugging his long legs tightly. His golden amber eyes found hers and he held the gaze long enough for Saphira to breathe out a puff of smoke while disturbing fluttering echoed in her belly before he placed the juice and the doughnuts on the table.

" Good morning your majesty," he greeted, in that rich and raspy baritone.

" Good morning to you too," she replied in an awkward sort of voice, she knew that she will be seeing him a lot sooner but she didn’t expect that it would be this soon. " You didn’t have to bring me, my morning juice."

" I wanted to see you as soon as I can your majesty," he said just as Bloom sneakily left the room and them alone. His eyes softened as he noticed every bit of her actions, his gaze skimming over her curves that were barely covered with that flimsy excuse of a camisole.

What was he doing? Memorising how she looked so early in the morning? No way, she was simply reading too much in it.
