" Sacrifices?" Bree raised her head and looked at Blaise as she repeated what he has just said, now she understood what was going in the head of the Duke, he needed to get the Phoenix offspring away from this territory but with them and the imperial guards being here, he cannot do that. She turned to look at Yakov and softly asked, " Did the Duke try to move the children last night, is this the reason you were so late in coming back?"

Yakov left the palace under the pretext that he was only going for a lookout and nothing else but he didn’t return till the morning, just what kind of lookout was he doing that he couldn’t return after an hour or so?

" I was going to tell you this after seeing what the Duke was going to do," Yakov replied with a solemn expression. " Last night the Duke stayed in the palace but I saw his aide leaving the castle from the back door, I was worried that he was going to do something sinister that was why I asked a few knights to patrol around the orphanages, the aide couldn’t move the kid last night, maybe this why... the Duke came up with this plan."

Bree’s lips curled up as she sat down on the regal-looking couch and tapped her fingers on the armrest. " The Duke wants to use me as a shield and use my presence in accordance with his plan. In case the matter is leaked out that a magical creature died in his territory, he can easily shift the blame to me, this way he would be safe in both ways. The sacrifice of the magical creature will help him in moving the Phoenix offspring or maybe use them for the very reason he is raising them, getting rid of the evidence once and for all such that no one would be able to trace it back to him and as for the sacrifice of the magical creatures? It happened in the presence of the Empress, who will raise objections against him, in fact, it would be I who will have to face the wrath of my people and elders senate. What a brilliant plan, I have to say that he really is something, isn’t he?"

Bree banged her fist on the armrest feeling angrier than ever, the Duke was not a foolish man in fact he was very smart, so smart that he thought of every possible thing. If she was to make her presence known in the hunt then she will be serving as his shield and if she didn’t appear then he will doubt her and the danger looming over them would get even more threatening.

Even if she didn’t hunt the magical creature who says that the Duke wouldn’t kill one? It wasn’t as if she would be able to stop him, right?

" Everything will be all right my queen." Blaise came to a stop in front of her and crouched down in front of her as he looked her in the eyes and said softly, " We will make sure that nothing happens in the hunt and in case a magical creature really makes an appearance then you use this."

He snapped his fingers and a bunch of arrows appeared out of thin air and dropped to Bree’s feet.

" Are you trying to save the magical creatures or asking me to hunt them?" Bree asked looking down at the heap of arrows and turning her head to look at Blaise with a questioning glance. " What is the meaning of this?"

Blaise’s lips curled into a smile, he picked up one of the arrows that were lying on the floor. " These arrows are brushed with a very potent poison, one that can make someone’s heart stop in just a few minutes." He dropped the arrows back on the floor and then turned his head to look at Bree whose face now held nothing but confusion, Yakov on the other hand clenched his fingers as his eyes flashed, oh he knew what Blaise was going to say after this.

He was after all very familiar with this poison himself.

" But what’s interesting is that the poison despite being this potent has an antidote," Blaise continued as he flicked his wrist and the arrows all flew up before piling one on top of another on the tea table. " Your majesty, in case you see a magical creature, you shoot it with this arrow and wait for the poison to work, then you bring that creature back to the palace where I will give you the antidote. This way even if the creature was to die once, it wouldn’t be counted as a sacrifice and the duke’s plan would go down the drains."

Bree’s gaze was locked on the arrows as she double-blinked her eyes and raised her head to look at Blaise, this man what else can’t he do? Just how in the world did he manage to do something like this? He created a poison that will stop one’s heart yet he also created an antidote to make that very heart beat again. For what and more importantly for whom?

" You sometimes scare me third consort," she wasn’t lying when she said that, last night was a very example of why she should be wary of Blaise. This man was anything but harmless.

The latter on the contrary wasn’t offended the least bit he smiled and looked at Bree with a twinkling pair of eyes and said, " You don’t need to be scared of me, your majesty...you just need to trust me. Even if I may not be the most affectionate person, I love my life a lot... and given that my life is closely tied to yours, I will never do anything that would endanger me or you, so this time please rest assured, this plan will certainly work and you can go to the hunting ground with ease."

" We welcome your majesty!" When Bree arrived at the hunting ground she wasn’t surprised to find that a crowd was waiting for her. She looked at the men who were bowing their heads but at the same time furtively staring at her from the corner of their eyes, a burst of mocking laughter bubbled in her throat as she looked at the huge crowd that was staring at her and she chuckled, " Just look at that, he has prepared so much to make sure that I meet my downfall, I would be damned if I don’t make this man suffer, you hear me?"

She turned her head to look at Yakov and Blaise who were standing behind her and smiled at them while muttering threat after threat under her breath. " Make sure that your plan works, or else I am going to go mad and you don’t want me to lose my temper all right?"

It wasn’t that she wanted to get angry at the two of them but this stupid plan of acting like a fool came out of their heads, if she suffered then she will make sure that the Duke suffers with her.

" Damn that Buffon," she sneered as she looked at the Duke who was rushing towards her and swore under her breath. " I wish I could gut him and throw his head somewhere in the harbour, honestly treating the Empress of this Empire as a stepping stone, he really has a lot of guts, I have to say."

" Please calm down your majesty." Yakov noticed that Bree was losing her temper, but he didn’t blame her. The Duke was indeed riling him up as well, he really thought that he was the smartest didn’t he?

"I am calm can’t you see? At least I haven’t thrown my resignation at your face and said that I quit playing this role." This was honestly an insult to her wits but she had no other choice but act accordingly, just let her get her hands on those Phoenix offsprings, she will make the Duke rue the day he thought she was easy to be made a fool.

"Your majesty, I am so glad that you are here," The Duke came to a stop in front of her and bowed deeply, Bree looked at his perfect etiquette and almost laughed out loud. Men like him were really not hidden to find were they, lowering their gazes, acting as if they respected you but inwardly they would be thinking that the position you were in was most probably because you climbed in the bed of someone influential, wasn’t it because they couldn’t accept the fact that a woman could be better than them?

She has seen men like Duke Cilantro and in fact, she was quite happy with him handing his head over like this, at least this way she will be able to let lose her temper that she has been storing within her.

Unlike the time when she has to ignore the sleazy comments and vile gazes that silently asked what she was doing instead of marrying a nice guy and limiting herself to the household chores.

This time she will make a man who looked down on her suffer her wrath instead of silently crying in the restroom.
