Chapter 284: Chapter 112 East Mountain_2

But he didn’t say anything, just laughed heartily and said, "Very good, very good, with this, I see that our task will be half as difficult. Jiang Li, I’ll leave the rest to you; I’m going to brief the brothers first."

Ye Mingyu went outside to instruct his subordinates, and Jiang Li watched his retreating figure, feeling both guilty and moved. Despite the many doubts, Ye Mingyu asked nothing because of her and trusted her wholeheartedly. This trust was immensely precious to her and she would remember it forever. Since arriving in Tongxiang, Ye Mingyu had been by her side to assist; tonight, he would have to travel overnight again without any rest. Jiang Li didn’t want him to work so hard, but on the other side was her father.

She believed that while she was thinking of strategies, Feng Yutang must also be trying to inform Princess Yongning about the situation here. Once Princess Yongning learned of this matter, she would undoubtedly try to get Feng Yutang to stop her, but Jiang Li thought it more likely that Yongning would directly order Feng Yutang to kill her.

The key to this war between her and Feng Yutang was time. Whoever was faster would gain an advantage in the fight to win. She dared not pause, not even for a moment.

"Tonger, grind some ink for me," Jiang Li said.

Tonger hurried to the table while Jiang Li picked up the brush. Out of curiosity, and because Xue Huaiyuan needed to understand what the East Mountain was like, she had gone there with Xue Huaiyuan once. Though it was just one visit, she still remembered every place she had been to. Even though the East Mountain might have changed somewhat due to Feng Yutang’s "mining," the general layout should remain the same.

By marking the location of the East Mountain Mine Path, it would make the investigation easier for Ye Mingyu and his men. However, once Ye Mingyu initially figured out what the situation was there, she would still need to go to East Mountain herself. Those subordinates of her father’s, with whom she had been in close company in the past, knew her best. If she wanted them to come forward and trust her, Ye Mingyu wouldn’t suffice; she had to talk to them personally.

It wouldn’t be much longer; soon it would be done.

...

Half an hour later, Jiang Li gave Ye Mingyu the completed map of East Mountain. Ye Mingyu didn’t take it lightly; as soon as he got the map, he immediately set off with his men. East Mountain was not far from here, but caution was always required when exploring unfamiliar territory.

After Ye Mingyu left, Jiang Li didn’t sit idle. She continued to read through Xue Huaiyuan’s files. Tonger and Bai Xue urged her to rest for a bit, worrying that nonstop reading would take its toll on her body. But Jiang Li wouldn’t listen, and read quietly until the crowing of the rooster three times. Feeling tired at last, she lay down on the bed for a brief rest, still clothed.

But she didn’t rest for long.

Jiang Li woke up on her own, and for reasons unknown, even though she was tired, perhaps because she was so worried about Xue Huaiyuan and knew she couldn’t afford to delay, she remained partly lucid even in her dreams, vaguely ready to awake. While dozing in a daze, she faintly heard Tonger whisper something to someone outside: "Miss just lay down a short while ago. She didn’t sleep until dawn yesterday, so perhaps the uncle should let her rest a little longer."

Jiang Li abruptly opened her eyes, stood up from the bed, and saw Ye Mingyu standing outside, travel-worn and weary, yet his eyes were extremely bright.

The sleepiness in Jiang Li vanished in an instant, without any hesitation, she immediately asked, "Uncle, you’re back?"

Only then did Ye Mingyu and Tonger realize Jiang Li had come out. Tonger anxiously said, "Oh, Miss, why have you gotten up?"

"Yes, Jiang Li," Ye Mingyu also said, "Why don’t you sleep a bit longer?" They, as men, were used to traveling on the road and not sleeping for a night was nothing. But Jiang Li was still young and a girl; it was bound to be exhausting.

"I’ve woken," Jiang Li asked, "Uncle, how did the investigation at East Mountain go?"

Talking about the matter at hand, Ye Mingyu set aside other concerns and replied, "Jiang Li, I took people there and just as Mute Granny said, there are people in the mine path on East Mountain. However, there are guards outside, we managed to go to the entrance of the mine path while the night watchman was asleep. We originally wanted to go inside to look, but the East Mountain caves are really too big, we couldn’t find the way and were afraid of getting separated and alerting others, so we retreated."

Jiang Li murmured, "That’s right, the terrain inside the East Mountain caves is indeed complex, people unfamiliar with it can easily get lost in there. Uncle, it was right for your men to retreat in time, otherwise getting lost in there, they could easily be trapped."
