Chapter 270: Chapter 109 Seven Days_3

He never expected to see Feng Yutang here, yet he had indeed made good on his past boasts. He took Xue Huaiyuan’s position and even threw Xue Huaiyuan into the dungeon!

Jiang Li’s heart turned cold in an instant. No wonder, no wonder it was him. Placing someone who already harbored resentment towards Xue Huaiyuan in this position meant that, without any reminder from Yongning, Feng Yutang would only intensify his torment of Xue Huaiyuan, seeking every possible way to make Xue Huaiyuan’s life worse than death.

Seeing Ye Mingyu shield Jiang Li behind him, Feng Yutang’s eyes showed a hint of disappointment. He coughed lightly and barked, "Who goes there? What’s the meaning of this disturbance in Tongxiang?"

Jiang Li stepped aside, surpassing Ye Mingyu, and looked calmly towards Feng Yutang.

Xue Huaiyuan detested Feng Yutang because of his greedy and unbecoming behavior; Jiang Li detested him because of the times when she was still Xue Fangfei. Whenever she visited her father and encountered Feng Yutang, he would always glue his damp and sticky gaze onto her. She utterly despised that kind of look, as if she had become someone else’s prey and could only keep her distance with respect.

Years had gone by, and Feng Yutang, still unchanging in his nature despite now flaunting his power as the County Magistrate, would not escape her wrath this time. She would not rest until she had peeled away a layer of his skin.

"We’re not causing any trouble," said Jiang Li with a smile. "We’re merely here to see you, my lord."

She spoke gently, her demeanor much softer than Ye Mingyu’s, and moreover, she was a graceful and beautiful lady. Feng Yutang’s lecherous gaze scanned over Jiang Li as his tone, though softer, still carried an air of brazen arrogance, "Oh? And why do you seek an audience with this official?"

These people clearly did not look like locals from Tongxiang. Yet they went about inquiring into Xue Huaiyuan’s affairs throughout the county. He had been briefed from the beginning, naturally not daring to take the matter lightly. However, he hadn’t expected his subordinates to report that these visitors were no ordinary people and had specifically come to see him. Although Feng Yutang had not been an official for long, he was deeply cunning. The exchange of words was, in fact, a form of probing. But the result of the probing didn’t help him learn anything; instead, it left him even more baffled.

Jiang Li looked at him, her lips parting gently as she uttered a sentence, "We’ve come to see Lord Feng to understand why the former Tongxiang County Magistrate, Xue Huaiyuan, has been imprisoned."

Upon hearing this, the room fell silent.

What puzzled Ye Mingyu and the others was that along the way, no one had mentioned what the lord’s surname or given name was. How did Jiang Li know to call him "Lord Feng" upon her arrival? When did she find out? Had she heard it discussed early on?

Feng Yutang was shocked that Jiang Li would dare to ask such a question right in front of him!

In Tongxiang, now no one dared to voice this question. Previously, when Jiang Li was brought in by the officials, she claimed that her inquiries about the Xue Family were to see him. But now upon seeing him, she said it was to ask about the Xue Family’s affairs.

She was toying with them!

Fury and humiliation at being played surged in Feng Yutang’s heart as he shouted, "You dare to question the criminal matters of the Xue Family right in front of this official! I believe you are all in league with the Xue Family. Guards, take down these conspirators!"

The officials around immediately moved to arrest them.

Ye Mingyu unsheathed his long saber and bellowed, "Whoever dares to lay a finger on us, this guy will chop his head into pieces!"

Ye Mingyu was indeed skilled at intimidating others. His forceful roar nearly caused Feng Yutang to lose his balance. Feng Yutang, fuming, adjusted his crooked hat and barked, "What are you waiting for? Take action!"

It was then that Jiang Li suddenly started to laugh softly.

In such a perilous moment, the beautiful woman’s light laughter was like a dark Hai Tang blooming in an abyss glinting with knife light — delicate yet vicious, dazzling yet cold.

Everyone couldn’t help but look at her.

Feng Yutang was even more captivated, licking his lips.

Tongxiang had its share of beauties, but they were all rather small-time charms. Once there was a Xue Fangfei, considered the finest among them. He had yet to devise a plan to take her for himself before Xue Huaiyuan threw her away. Later, when Xue Fangfei married far away to Yanjing, he regretted it for a long time. Had Xue Fangfei still been alive today, he would have surely taken her to his mansion for his indulgence.

Seeing Feng Yutang’s drifting gaze, Jiang Li knew exactly what he was thinking. Suppressing her disgust, she instead let a smile spread across her face and said, "Lord Feng, my name is Jiang Li."

Feng Yutang looked at her: "What Jiang Li?"

"I mean," Jiang Li enunciated each word, "My name is Jiang Li."
