Chapter 98: Familiarizing With Demons
Chapter 98: Familiarizing With Demons
"Oh, she’s a feisty one." Amon exclaimed with a whiff of slight amusement in his voice.
Rama stiffened under the pressurizing gaze of the demons and vampires who waited with neutral countenances for her to speak, excluding Zamiel who was living in his own diverse world as usual.
A sigh escaped her lips as she opened her mouth to speak. She was well aware that nothing she said would be significant enough to waver Damien’s mother(Ideria)’s heart in her fixed decision of rejecting her.
"Well, you’re right my lord, I should familiarise myself with my future husband’s family." She paused abruptly, the word ’husband’ made her almost splutter as she locked her gaze momentarily with Draco, he had that confident smirk on his face as if querying her certainty.
He nodded without saying a word while she continued.
"Obviously, I was taken captive after failing to protect my kingdom from your prince of darkness, I’m only living in the shadow of my former self, there’s not much to say anymore." Rama stated in a clipped tone.
"Damien fell in love with a human captive from a fallen kingdom? How outrageous and pathetic! We have beautiful demonesses and they’re at least vampires too, I wonder what made you fall for such a low being." Onyx suddenly snorted out with an irritated sigh.
"Apparently, from our short encounter, it seems beautiful demonesses don’t meet his standards." Rama said in a neutral tone.
"I doubt you’d meet any powerful creatures standards, he only chose you because of his desire for normalcy, he thinks being with a human gets him closer to his absurd fantasy of having normalcy, anyway since you’re so perfect, care to tell me what his standards are if not gorgeous demonesses like me?" Onyx drawled with one raised brow.
"He desires for a beaut with brains, but it appears they only have the former, not the latter." Rama retorted with a stoic expression as she shot her a cold stare.
Zamiel who had failed to engage in the conversation or elicit a reaction finally looked up to glance at Rama, but only for a moment. Draco, on the other hand watched with amusement, while the others harnessed pure shock at the human’s comeback.
Onyx’s black eyes suddenly flared with rage as she viciously pushed back her seat, while sprouting up her feet like she had been struck by lightning.
"How dare you lowly human!!" Her voice thundered from across the table, as she growled beneath gritted teeth.
"I’ll rip you to shreds and then, we’ll see how much your pathetic brain can help you!" She threatened, claws elongating and fangs retracting as her black eyes burned with literal flames.
Rama felt goosebumps on her skin, but then she realized she had Damien beside her, as far as she knew, the demon of envy was more powerful than the demon of lust. The mere thought made her confidence skyrocket, she didn’t even realize Malika was tugging at her sleeves beneath the table to avoid more complications.
"I’d honestly love to see you try." Rama drawled beneath her breath as she cast her a lazy glance which only fueled the demoness’s anger even more.
She snarled, her mind hazy with nothing but the thought of ripping the human apart and just as she was about to make a move in attacking her, a voice commanding power itself resounded in the hall.
"I’ll advice you to sit. I’d love to see Damien get married to her while she’s in one piece, so don’t even think of doing something stupid." Draco said to the glowering Demoness who’s body was quivering with anger.
She sat mechanically while retaining her dark gaze on Rama with malicious intent.
"Why do I feel like there’s an underlying meaning to what you just said?" Amon queried rhetorically with one raised brow as he shot him a skeptical look.
Draco chuckled darkly without giving a response, eliciting trepidation and doubt in her heart that he had released her from his treacherous hold, but everything seemed so puzzling now, she felt as if she was trapped in a maze.
The door suddenly shut open to reveal maids emerging into the dining hall with trays of varying delicacies which they displayed on the long oak table.
Everyone settled in as they took servings, excluding Draco who watched them while twirling the goblet in his hand.
"You seem to harbour no fear young woman because you have gained favor from my son, but be heedful, things could get hectic if you’re too laid back, especially when living in the devil’s world." Ideria, her supposedly mother in law said, her voice was rather calm as if conveying an advice to her, but she knew better than to fall for that tone. It was a threat.
"I’ll take your advice to heart, but mind you I’m absolutely prudent in this new world I’ve been forcefully plunged into by my dark fate, trust me I only expect the worst onward." Rama said with a crooked smile.
The woman returned it with a crooked smile, the displeasure in her eyes lay evident of her rejection still, but she was mostly displeased by how confident and fierce this seemingly lowly human was.
"I’ll give her that. Smart but reckless, not to forget, sharp mouthed and feisty, you don’t fear death, do you?" Amon said while maintaining his gaze on her, his glinting emerald eyes didn’t seem to retain discontent when he looked at her, rather he was amused.
"But I assure you, you’ll fear the devil, his son is no different. The only difference is that he suppresses his demons, wait until it comes out of it’s lurking for the darkness to engulf him whole." Amon added in, his voice turned dreary, his emerald eyes darkening as he spoke, presumably to project fear into the hardened heart of the feisty human, but rather she gave him a bored look which only amused him more.
"No matter how well you hide your fear beneath that fragile mask, it’s still easy to whiff off you." Amon said as he leaned back with a sarcastic smirk playing on his lips.
"I never denied having the feeling of fear. It’s only a normal emotion to feel as a human, especially when being introduced to a paranormal world." She reasoned out with shrugged shoulders.
Amon nodded his head thoughtfully, while Onyx scoffed with rolling eyes at the exchange, realizing that Amon was intrigued by the human she loathed.
"I’m glad you’re familiarising yourselves with my future wife, I hope you all get along well rather than try to rip her to shreds." Damien said in a half hearted tone as he directed his statement to Onyx.
"Since my prince said he wants to see you get married to her in one piece, I’ll have to postpone ripping her until after the wedding." Onyx drawled with a sheepish grin, but her sugar coated threats didn’t waver Damien in even the slightest, so she didn’t press any thoughts on it either.
"Damien, I can’t seem to talk you out of this mistake, my rejection means nothing to you either so I’ll leave it be, but I still stand firmly against this...Union!" Ideria said, stating the last word with pure bitterness as she cast Rama a glare.
Damien merely shrugged, unaffected by his mother’s words.
"By the way, we’ve addressed the unfavourable matter in the room, but I’ve been curious on whom the little girl is, trying to hide her insignificant presence by being quiet." Amon pointed out as he leaned forward, trying to lock his gaze with the ones of the timid human who avoided his with her head lowered.
He chuckled darkly, amused by her innocence and naivety that drew his darkness to desire devouring her soul.
Malika who was aware of herself being addressed by the strange demon, avoided his gaze while she fiddled with her skirt nervously. She hoped inwardly the attention would be diverted from her as soon as possible, but the demon seemed invested in her still.
Her appetite vanished into thin air as she felt eyes on her. The realization of what she had walked into finally hit her, she was in the midst of demons and vampires, but even though Damien could protect her from the murky gaze and sinister intents of the dark beings, she still felt vulnerable.
"What is your name, little girl?" Amon queried.
"She’s not a little girl, I’d be delighted if you stopped addressing her in that manner." Rama suddenly remarked.
"I know very well she’s eighteen, but she retains the innocence and naivety of a child, not the experience and acuity of a woman, so mind me not if I address her in that manner." Amon said with a dark grin that never reached his lips.
"What is your name child?" Amon queried demandingly for an answer.
"Malika." She said, her voice barely audible as it came out in a whisper.
"Malika.." Amon recited in a dark drawl.
"What business do you have here, Malika? I doubt you’re related to Damien’s fiancee, I can smell your blood, so what are you here for?" Amon questioned.
She gulped softly as she lifted her head up to look into his emerald eyes swirling with unhinged darkness and she shivered.
She tried to avoid the gaze of Zamiel while everyone’s undying attention was fixated on her, but she couldn’t help it as her eyes scanned for him.
"You came for Lord Zamiel?" Amon queried in disbelief.
