Chapter 61: Preys Can Become Predators

Chapter 61: Preys Can Become Predators

Rama stood akimbo, wondering where to start from as she scrutinized the room, she had scoured his chamber before, but not thoroughly.

A stray thought made her lips twist. She wondered if he would keep the key on him, since it would be the securest place to hide it and no one would actually dare take it without him finding out.

Her inner goddess rang warning bells in her head against her ludicrous idea to search him, while he was rather unconscious or even try to figure out what was behind those doors, but the curiosity in her overpowered her survival instincts, especially when she prompted the theory that the secret to his weakness laid beneath it.

The thought that he could be hiding his weakness crossed her mind, one two many times and it provoked her curiosity even more to find out what it was.

She looked at Draco as he slept, and she nervously bit down on her lower lip. It could be another trick of his to make her act out of her boundary, even though the poison obviously had an effect on him, she couldn’t quite trust the devil still. He was a trickster after all.

She would search the chamber thoroughly and if she yet hadn’t found anything yielding, she’d search him. Her inner mind hid under a rug at this dangerous conclusion she made.

She hauled toward the drawers and opened them to be greeted by those strange vials filled with fluids, she wondered what it was and finding out what it was could lead to one step closer to whatever secret he was hiding.

That is, if he had one. There was a tiny possibility that she could be wrong and eliciting ridiculous hypothesis, but she was greatly convinced she was right.

He was peculiar and enigmatic, there was always a dark mystery behind a mysterious devil and her instincts told her his secrets were darker than the deepest depths of an abysm, but was she ready to delve down this path and unravel the devil’s petrifying mysteries?

Her curiosity immediately answered ’YES’ without waiting to conform from her. She loved adventures and this might just be the adventure she was born for.

The devil and his mysteries intrigued her and her subconsciousness told her to hang on tight, they were going for a hell of a ride, literally, but not even the adventure would make her forget about her enthusiasm for vengeance. Along the path of unraveling mysteries, her vengeance shall be attained.

She was almost done with searching the entire room when she opened a box with engravings on it. She prayed inwardly the key would be seated inside it.

She slowly opened the box and her eyes narrowed to the content, making her facial expression drastically alter from a neutral one to a grim one.

It was her dagger and she had thought she lost it during the fight, but he actually took it and probably kept it as a trophy for defeating her, otherwise would be creepy. She whipped her head to the bed and shot him a glare even though he couldn’t see it.

She grasped the dagger from inside the box and shoved it on the table. Her fingers coiled around the hilt as she observed it in a perfect condition and just as she remembered, with black gems encrusted on the hilt.

Her father had gifted the dagger to her, since it was passed down from their ancestors to the apparent heir, but there was no hope for her anymore. No heir, no throne, no kingdom and no people. He took it all within a blink of an eye, like he was eradicating ants from the earth.

Her jaws clenched as her grip on the dagger tightened with rage, making her knuckles turn white, fury burning into her jade eyes as it pierced into him on the bed. She marched toward him with slow steps until she was hovering above him.

Her rage knew no boundaries at that moment.

It was hard to process that her kingdom now lay in ruins and he had taken innocent lives of her people and instead of leaving her to die and relieve herself of the guilt and misery she was engulfed in, he chose to torture her with it everyday.

This was a one time opportunity, the only time she could ever give him a taste of pain without any hindrance in her way, no restriction holding her back, and if she drove the dagger into his heart, it’d undoubtedly cause him more harm, after all he was immortal, not invincible. The poison was evidence of that.

She hovered the dagger above his chest, ready to plunge it into his heart as she propelled it downward.

The door abruptly shot open and she jumped back startled, but her rational mind was still intact, so she frantically hid the dagger behind her back, heart pounding hard against her ribcage as she didn’t anticipate any unexpected guest interrupting her.

Damien shot the door open, leading to Draco’s chamber. He wanted to check up on his condition, but he used that lie he told himself, to mask whom he really wanted to see.

She had left an impression on him, that left him intrigued by her, but he didn’t dislike the feeling even though she was human, rather he wanted to explore it. It was ironic because there was nothing uniquely special about her, but he felt more allured to her than any female vampire he had encountered.

She could undoubtedly catch a vampire’s attention, but that would be only in bed. Although that was what caught his attention at their first meeting, but now he desired to explore this intriguing feeling she spurred inside him.

He was greeted by an absurd sight the moment he opened the door that left him dumbstruck, as he caught her in an attempt to murder Draco in his sleep, which would have provoked a laughter erupting from his lips, but he feigned an act as though he didn’t see anything and acted rather neutral.

He proceeded into the room as he watched her startled reaction while she hurriedly hid the dagger behind her back, but she quickly educed a facade with a solemn expression, thinking he didn’t catch her, but she wasn’t fast enough to evade the sight of a vampire.

Her jade eyes were burning with rage but it was immediately snuffed out. She was beautiful, but it felt as if a genuine smile could never graze those pale pink lips of hers ever again, she was breathing, but a fragment of her soul faded with each passing day.

Damien could only see an empty soul when he looked into her dead jade eyes, she was no longer living, she was only driven by revenge and fueled with suppressed rage and hatred. She was living in a dark hole, yet she mesmerized him.

"Lord Damien." She almost spluttered but she immediately composed herself.

A charming smile grazed his lips as he approached her, standing a few meters away from the bed. Even though he gave her a charming smile, she was still wary he had caught her.

"You must be exhausted meeting his needs, everyday. He’s quite a hassle." Damien said with a light tone and she sighed in relief, thinking he hadn’t caught her in an attempt to murder their vampire king.

She blinked her eyes, unable to reply the unexpected question in that second.

"A mystery is the right word to describe him." Rama remarked as her gaze fixated on Draco’s sleeping figure before she backed away and swiftly placed the dagger into her gown pocket, when she was behind him and away from his sight.

She moved toward the window and Damien moved toward her as he stood beside her.

"Ahh, you find him mysterious?" Damien queried, it felt as if the charming smile on his face earlier was only an hallucination, because now he had a stoic countenance similar to Zamiel’s.

"He is a mystery undoubtedly, even a child could see that." She answered with a straight face, careful not to step over her boundaries. She wasn’t that gullible enough to believe he didn’t see her, she figured he might be feigning an act of obliviousness, but why?

"We’re night creatures after all, our entire existence revolves around mystery."

She nodded softly, not saying another word. He could see her squirm in unease, she wanted him to leave, he could read her thought and she didn’t care to suppress them from him, which left him even more fascinated as no woman had ever blatantly rejected him in thoughts nor physically.

"You’ve always left me intrigued, Rama."

She whipped her face to look up at him as he stared down at her beneath his dark lashes, with that smoldering red eyes of his.

She had a confused expression on her face.

"The warrior queen that defeated a man both in physical combat and the black dragon’s choosing and also." He paused as he observed her expression with keen interest.

"..Proposed a war with the vampire king, I must confess I was indeed curious about the person crazy enough to propose a war with Draco." He remarked as he rubbed his chin with his slender fingers adorned with gold knuckle rings.

He had an amused glint in his red eyes as he spoke.

"It doesn’t matter, everyone is dead now, there was no point." She said with a hard tone as she looked away, jade eyes glistening with tears but she blinked it back.

"Did you really think we wiped everyone out?" He queried, suspense retained in his voice and she whipped her face to look at him with slightly widened eyes and lifted brows for an explanation.

"What do you mean?" She blurted out, hope lingering in her voice that her mother was alive.

"We’re vampires after all. We feed on blood and as you know, our population is low, we captured the young men and women, children I guess, but the aged are deemed useless, so dead." Damien explained nonchalantly.

The hope that lit up in her eyes were quickly snuffed out in a beat, her mother was undoubtedly dead. The blood of the aged weren’t pleasing and they were too weak to work.

"So where are they?" Rama queried demandingly, her voice almost breaking as rage engulfed her.

"The castle already has enough human slaves, they’re probably in the town, working for vampires and procreation." Damien explained and she wanted nothing more than to drive the dagger into his chest instead.

"Don’t give me that look, if I had my way, we’d all coexist but it’s Draco’s way and no one goes against it. Besides it’s in our nature, we’re predators." Damien said in a stern tone, devoid of his cheery one.

"And we’re the preys." She muttered beneath her breath.

A dark smile grazed his lips with a deceptive glint in his red eyes.

"Preys can become predators too." Damien said in a low dreary voice.
