Chapter 390: Revelation Of A Birth

As the tension in the air slowly decreased and Zoya was finally being soothed, Rama proceeded to ask about what happened, although she was a bit uncertain whether she would open up to her or not, but at least she decided to try.

"Can you tell me what happened?" Rama asked, her voice was gentle and soft, making it clear to her that she wasn’t forcing her to talk and she was free to do it on her own accord.

Zoya whipped her head towards her direction as she said "I apologize for my outburst earlier, it was..."

Rama abruptly interrupted "It was perfectly fine, you deserve to mourn for whoever this Aldric was, he seemed to mean so much to you and I know words cannot comfort you on your loss, but that is all I can offer."

Zoya sighed as her face fell, but she didn’t cry. Her face was only masked with despair, breaking through her facade.

"After I left, I went to East Ravka." Zoya mentioned and she paused for a second as she stared at Rama’s surprised face. It wasn’t unexpected, after all, everyone had thought of East Ravka as a myth, a kingdom that only existed in folktales.

"I thought East Ravka was a myth." Rama whispered.

"No, it’s very much real and very merciless still, no wonder no one searched for it and whoever did, never came back." Zoya implied, her voice wavered slightly as she spoke, forcing back the tears.

Rama’s lips pressed shut as she listened eagerly for her to proceed with her story, she was rather curious to know what happened and the tragedy that had befallen Zoya while she was there.

"I breached the magic barrier protecting their kingdom and then, they took me as prisoner for what I had done." She paused for a moment before she continued again. "I thought of it as a minor crime that would go unpunished and if I explained to the council what my motive was, then they would let me go, but they didn’t. They live very discreetly and they would go through any extent just to protect the secrets of their kingdom." She sighed as she paused, slightly hesitant to go on. She knew she had to talk about Aldric, but even thinking about him provoked the burning pain in her chest.

"They finally made a decision to execute me, despite explaining to them our predicament." Zoya said and Rama gasped in disbelief, her brows furrowing in anger, but her eyes held remorse in them.

"Aldric was the leader of their skilled warriors and while I was about to be executed, he committed treason and helped me escape." Zoya confessed and Rama could only gape in silence.

"After retrieving what I came there for, he tried to help me escape but in the process, he..." Zoya’s voice broke at the last sentence and she quickly blinked back the tears that were threatening to drop from her eyes.

"So you tapped into dark magic, because you were hurt." Rama remarked, rather than a question and she nodded in silence.

Rama wanted to hug her and comfort her, but knowing Zoya, she didn’t need a hug or her pity. She was a mirror of her own self, she hated the feeling of being pitied, what she needed at that moment was revenge.

"I thought revenge would heal my wound, but it didn’t. It made me even more angrier because no matter the vengeance, he’s still not here, he’s gone and it’s all my fault. I should have never let him close to me, I should have been executed and he would still be alive, but he’s not." Zoya blurted out, her stormy eyes thundering with fury.

Rama sughed softly as she placed her hand on hers "Sometimes, revenge isn’t what you need, sometimes all you need is acceptance. It will be hard, but I’m here."

"I’m afraid it’s impossible, I have no drive to live any longer, and all I want to do is hold on to his memory till my end and I know just how my end will be." Zoya said in a flat tone.

"Zoya." Rama called but she swiftly interrupted.

"You don’t have to act so concerned, I can live with it." Zoya remarked.

"You don’t have to." Rama said.

"Won’t you ask me about the relic I managed to retrieve?" Zoya queried.

"You can tell me about it later, just have some rest." Rama suggested as she proceeded to leave.

"No, it’s fine, it’s best if you know right now. I don’t want it to come as a shock later on." Zoya implied and Rama, sensing the seriousness of the situation decided to stay.

"What...happened?" Rama asked with bated breath.

"What didn’t happen?" Zoya breathed out as she paused.

"I have the relic we can use to save Malika.." Zoya paused.

"But?" Rama pressed on. It should have been good news but the tension in her words said otherwise.

"But it’s inside me and I have no idea how to control it." Zoya explained.

"How did it happen?" Rama asked in confusion.

"I took its powers because I wanted them for myself, to kill the soldiers that murdered Aldric." Zoya confessed, leaving Rama stupefied.

"That’s how you used dark magic." Rama pointed out.

"If I hadn’t been distracted, I would have brought back the relic, I’m sorry." Zoya apologized.

"You have nothing to apologize for." Rama assured her.

As if something had ticked in Zoya, she stared at Rama with furrowed brows.

"Rama." Zoya called in a soft whisper.

She had sensed a shift in the energies that surrounded Rama, a subtle change that hinted at the presence of new life growing within her womb. And now, as she prepared to share her revelation with her, she could feel the anticipation building in the air like a gathering storm.

Rama, her brow furrowed in confusion, regarded Zoya with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension as she awaited the news that her friend had to share.

"Rama," Zoya began softly, her voice tinged with a sense of reverence, "there is something I must tell you. Something of great importance." Zoya said as she placed her hand on her belly.

Rama’s heart skipped a beat at the solemnity of Zoya’s words, her pulse quickening with a sense of anticipation as she braced herself for whatever revelation was to come. Could it be possible, she wondered, that Zoya had sensed something that the physician had missed? Could she truly be pregnant after all?

"What is it, Zoya?" she asked, her voice barely more than a whisper. "What do you need to tell me?"

Zoya took a deep breath, her gaze unwavering as she met Rama’s eyes with a sense of determination. "Rama," she said softly, "I believe... I believe you are pregnant."

The words hung in the air between them, heavy with meaning and significance, as Rama’s mind reeled with the shock of the revelation. Pregnant? Could it be true, after all? Could the life growing within her have gone undetected by the physician’s examination?

It seemed almost too good to be true, too miraculous to comprehend.

She had recently visited the physician who had informed her that she was not pregnant, leaving her feeling disheartened and uncertain about her future. But now, as she looked upon Zoya’s face, she sensed a glimmer of hope flickering in the depths of her stormy grey eyes, a hope that she desperately wanted to believe in.

"But... how can you be so sure?" Rama asked, her voice trembling with emotion. "The physician told me that I wasn’t pregnant. How could you possibly know something that he missed?"

Zoya smiled gently, a twinkle of amusement dancing in her stormy grey eyes as she reached out to grasp Rama’s hand in hers. "I have sensed it, Rama," she explained softly, her voice filled with a sense of reverence. "I have felt the energies shifting within you, the life growing and blossoming like a flower in bloom. It is a gift, a miracle bestowed upon you by the universe itself."

Rama’s mind reeled with the enormity of Zoya’s words, the weight of the truth sinking in with each passing moment. Pregnant.

A life growing within her own body, a new soul waiting to be born into the world. It was a thought that filled her with both joy and apprehension, a sense of wonder at the mysteries of life and creation that lay beyond her understanding.

"But... what am I to do, Zoya?" she asked softly, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "I’m concerned for this... this child? Because of it’s lineage."

Zoya’s smile widened, a sense of warmth and reassurance emanating from her like a beacon in the darkness. "You need not worry, Rama," she said gently. "You and Draco will be here to guide your child every step of the way, to help him navigate the challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead. Together, you wil both ensure that this child is born into a world filled with love and light." Zoya remarked solemnly.
