Chapter 385: "I’m Pregnant"
{Back In Voltaire Empire}
It had been a rough couple of days ever since Zoya had left to find a cure for Malika. Whatever ghoul that was sucking the life out of the citizens still lurked freely, bringing about chaos and fear on the kingdom, but then Draco immediately took matters into his own hands.
Since then, every night, he and Zamiel kept night watch in the forest since it was the only place where the unknown ghoul attacked. It never breached the boundary of the forest to go into the towns, so it was mildly safe and the citizens stayed in their homes, not coming out when it was past sunset, but tragedy befell some unfortunate souls who failed to make it home before the sun fell.
Fortunately, ever since Draco and Zamiel started to keep watch, the ghoul failed to reveal it’s presence and once again, it was safe. For now.
Despite it all, Draco could only suspect one person. He had been keeping a subtle eye on her every movement, but the observations of her were always normal. There was nothing off about her, nothing out of the ordinary or whatsoever, but still, he couldn’t let his guard down.
He and Rama had breakfast together with Zamiel and Malika, but the only reason they joined them was to get something out of her, anything odd and unlike her. He was certain of his theory that once you let the darkness in, it consumes every part of your soul and her body had been used as a vessel to let something dark and dangerous into the world.
He was sure of the fact that whatever entity seeping through her veins was capable of poisoning her mind with darkness, after all, it had now become her life force.
"How are you feeling Malika?" Draco asked as they proceeded with their breakfast.
Malika tilted her head toward him with a smile as she replied "I’m feeling well, my lord."
Heavy silence hovered around them and Rama was well aware of what he was trying to achieve from his insignificant questions. He was very observant, his predatory gaze peering through the depths of her soul as he paid attention to her every gesture.
Rama wanted to chip in and divert from the interrogation, but Draco beat her to it "You’ve heard of the darkness that poisons our land, haven’t you?" He questioned with a stern gaze fixated on her.
Without hesitation or fear, she replied "Yes, it is indeed very unfortunate."
"It is indeed. We have no idea what it is, but we call it a soul sucking ghoul, an essence of dark magic." Draco remarked, his eyes firmly on her face.
"Is it the dark witches, perhaps?" Malika asked, her eyes wide with fear.
"No, it isn’t. They are not as powerful, this is a new type of evil, one I haven’t come across before." He pointed out as he emphasized on his words, his judging eyes keenly relaxed on her.
"That is concerning, I hope you find this..ghoul soon, my lord." Malika said, her face etched with concern.
"We will, there’s no being on earth too powerful for me." Draco said, his words booming with conviction.
"But, what’s also concerning is that you’ve lost your angelic abilities." Draco suddenly remarked. "....And aura." He added in, his judging eyes scrutinizing her intently and the place was suddenly crammed with the intensity of the topic.
He saw her swallow softly before she proceeded to speak "What do you mean? I haven’t lost my abilities or my aura, they’re just very faint now since I woke up, it could be the coma I was in, but with time, I’ll get them back." She said defensively.
"Or, maybe with time you won’t get them back, because you’re no longer the Malika we knew, there’s a new life essence living inside of you. A dark entity, so there’s no room for light anymore." Draco pointed out, leaving her struck dumb.
"What do you imply, my lord?" She queried, her unwavering eyes fixated on him.
"That you’re nothing more than a threat in my eyes right now, so give me one reason why I shouldn’t separate your head from your shoulders right this instant?" Draco spouted out in a dangerous, low growl.
"Draco!" Rama called out in petrification, but he ignored her calls.
His patience had already waned down to nothing, every signs of a threat was visible in her, despite the innocent facade she was putting on, but he could see through it like a transparent glass. She was different from the Malika they had once knew, despite how similar she was, he could sense the darkness seeping from her presence.
She was a worthy threat to the kingdom and his beloved and he was ready to get rid of it.
"Thats enough Draco, she’s not the enemy you’re looking for." Zamiel cut in, his patience had already worn thin.
"Silence Zamiel, it doesn’t matter what you say, she’s a potential threat to us all. You are blinded by love but clearly, I’m not!" Draco’s dark voice slithered through the air, his golden eyes blaming with a fiery intensity to kill.
"I would never hurt anyone, not Rama or the kingdom." Malika cried out, her voice breaking as she sobbed softly, pleading with her eyes for them to believe her.
"I can no longer sense your celestial aura or essence, it’s very faint, but the darkness I sense emanating from you is more vital, you are a threat and all forms of threat should be gotten rid of, because if you’re no longer a celestial being, then you’re nothing but a vessel of darkness and I know very well that darkness only wants to destroy." Draco drawled in a low voice.
"The only reason my celestial aura is faint is because I’m carrying a demon child." Malika suddenly blurted out and the whole room fell silence, but the only surprised ones were Rama and Draco since they were not aware.
"Malika..." Rama whispered gently with wide eyes swirling with a mixture of surprise and excitement.
Malika turned to face her with a smile "We found out yesterday. I was feeling sick and I went to see the royal physician. It turned out that I was pregnant." Malika explained.
"It doesn’t justify anything." Draco suddenly spoke, his neutral countenance indifferent to Rama’s own.
"Draco please, she’s pregnant for heaven’s sake and she hasn’t hurt anyone." Rama said defensively.
"Not yet or perhaps, she has but we have no idea just how cunning this entity is. It even conjures up illusions to make us believe what we see." Draco reasoned out.
"I know you want to protect Rama and your kingdom, but I assure you I have no plans of hurting anyone, and if I do, you may do as you see fit with me and I will accept my punishment." Malika spoke calmly, her words were coated with an undeniable sincerity, but still, Draco was skeptical.
Draco remained silent for a moment which felt like an eternity as they all waited for him to make his decision. They knew very well that whatever declaration he made was final and no amount of pleas whatever would refrain him from doing what he wanted.
If he saw her as a potential threat which she was, then he wouldn’t hesitate for a second before getting rid of her.
"The second you become a threat, I’m getting rid of you." Draco declared and she sighed in relief.
After breakfast, Rama and Malika dashes out in excitement for the news while they chatted.
In the tranquil beauty of the garden, Rama and Malika sat together on a weathered stone bench, surrounded by a riot of colorful flowers and the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze. The sun cast dappled shadows across the grass, painting the scene with a warm and inviting glow as the two friends shared a moment of quiet intimacy.
Malika’s face was radiant with joy as she shared her news with Rama, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she spoke of the life growing within her. Her hands rested protectively on her still flat bellym
"I can hardly believe it," Malika exclaimed, her voice filled with wonder and awe. "I’m going to be a mother."
Rama’s heart swelled with happiness for her friend, her own face lighting up with a smile as she reached out to grasp Malika’s hand in a gesture of solidarity. "I am so happy for you, Malika," she said, her voice filled with genuine warmth and affection. "You will make an incredible mother."
But even as she spoke the words, a pang of longing tugged at Rama’s heart, a bittersweet reminder of her own unfulfilled desires. For while she rejoiced in Malika’s happiness, a part of her couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy, a longing for the same joy and fulfillment that her friend now experienced.
Malika sensed Rama’s inner turmoil and reached out to her with a comforting touch, her eyes soft with empathy as she spoke. "I know that you have always dreamed of starting a family of your own, Rama," she said gently. "And I have no doubt that your time will come."
Rama nodded, her smile tinged with sadness as she wrestled with her conflicting emotions. "I know," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "But sometimes it feels as though everyone around me is moving forward with their lives, while I am stuck in place, unable to move forward."
Malika squeezed Rama’s hand reassuringly, her eyes filled with understanding. "You are not alone, my dear friend," she said softly. "And you must remember that your worth is not defined by whether or not you bear children. You are a strong and beautiful woman, and your life has value and purpose no matter what."
Rama nodded, her heart lightened by Malika’s words of wisdom. "Thank you, Malika," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. "You always know just what to say."
Together, the two friends sat in companionable silence, the weight of their shared conversation hanging in the air between them. But despite the heaviness of their words, there was also a sense of peace and acceptance, a quiet acknowledgment of the challenges they faced and the strength they possessed to overcome them.
