Chapter 367: You Smell Foul

Chapter 367: You Smell Foul

"Do you like me, Aldric?" She suddenly blurted out her question like a casual statement. Her confidence was unmatched as she maintained her unwavering eyes locked with his.

For a second, his body movements wavered as he scoffed in ridicule at her words, but the flutter of his lashes and the glint in his eyes said otherwise to his disbelieving countenance.

"Rather than talking gibberish, why don’t you take a bath quickly so I can put you in your detaining room?" Aldric implied with an exasperated sigh.

"I’ll go on, I feel disgusting anyway." She muttered indistinctly as she proceeded toward the washroom, but then she halted as she turned around to face him.

Extending her shackled hands toward him, she said "Won’t you unshackle me? I won’t do magic."

"That’s an absolutely no, you’re under my inspection and if you escape, I’ll be held accountable. You still have both your hands, you can bathe like that or better still, I could bathe you." He said in a sarcastic manner.

Her lips curled in displeasure as she muttered out "Pervert!" and then she stomped out on him.

She walked through the thick curtain concealing the washroom as she went in, while his piercing blue eyes bore into her retreating back until she disappeared through the curtains.

After she exited from his sight, he let out an awry sigh. His jaws ticked in uneasiness as he wondered how she managed to discern his hidden feelings beneath his concrete mask of emptiness and neutrality.

He would just have to deny it, after all, it couldn’t be a significant feeling of any sort, perhaps it was merely a fleeting infatuation. True, he admired her confidence and her wits, but maybe that was all just it was. Admiration and nothing else.

Meanwhile, Zoya dashed into the washroom, in a hurry to get rid of the dirty clothes she had been wearing for three days in a row and finally wash her hair clinging to her scalp.

She peeled off the clothes in a swiftness that indicated she was in a hurry to get out of the dirty clothes, after all, they made her skin itch like crazy.

For a second, she stared back at her reflection in the mirror only to see the horrifying state she was in. Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment knowing she had been in front of him like that, looking like she had been dumped in a pig sty or perhaps she was just overreacting.

Sighing, she turned towards the round crystal tub filled with water, it could fit the two of them, she thought inwardly without realizing what she was thinking and when she did, her cheeks flushed again.

What was wrong with her? She screamed inwardly as she struggled to maintain her composure. She was here for a purpose, not to get distracted by a warrior.

Plunging her body into the steamy water, she let out a relaxed and a clueless loud moan as her limbs soaked. Unfortunately, her moan echoed off the walls and she was certain Aldric might have heard it.

She suddenly clapped her palm over her mouth in embarrassment, but then she shoved it aside, not giving a care in the world. She hadn’t had a bath in days, she deserved to relish in a nice, warm bath.

Taking hold of the scrub, she scrubbed the dirt off her face and body with a firm grip, making sure she was back to being squeaky clean and porcelain. Afterwards, she gave her damp hair a thorough wash until it retained back its lustrous sheen.

Finally, after being satisfied with the result, she emerged out of the tub with water trailing after her to make a small puddle on the floor.

Her lashes fluttered in confusion when she realized that she had no new dress to wear, but the dirty one which she certainly wasn’t going to put on again.

She bit her bottom lip anxiously as she proceeded to ask Aldric, in which he might either get her a new one or most probably remind her of her current predicament and tell her to deal with it, which most probably sounded like him.

"Ugh." She groaned as she took slow steps towards the curtain and with a small tug, she pulled the sides of the curtain to reveal only her head peeking through to catch sight of Aldric playing with his daggers.

"So even a warrior has toys too." She snickered as she giggled amusingly, forgetting for a split moment the reason why she was there.

His head suddenly whipped in her direction as he heard her voice. The moment his eyes met hers, his brows furrowed deeply in confusion and puzzlement.

"What do you think you are doing?" He asked with a firm tone and skeptical eyes narrowed at her.

"No need to be so defensive, don’t worry, I’m not here to seduce you." She voiced out with a giggle and in that instant, he almost lost his composure as he heard her beautiful laughter ring.

But then her words etched themselves into his head and his brows furrowed deeper again "Your directness is unmatched, no noble lady speaks the way you do."

She scoffed loudly as she said, while rolling her eyes "That’s why they’re noble, they hold back, but why should I? It’s rather boring to hold back."

"Right, by the way, your hair is dripping water on my floor, if you’re not here to seduce me, what do you want?" He asked in a tepid tone, his eyes narrowing to the floor with a small puddle of water as her hair dripped continuously. She could see the look of discontentment in his eyes, but he seemed to shove it aside as he paid attention to her.

"I don’t mean to disturb you, but could you please get me a new dress?" She asked with the sweetest voice she could muster.

"A new dress from where? You could manage with your old one." He replied casually.

"I was expecting that, but if you don’t get me a new dress, then I won’t get dressed at all." She insisted with a firm resolve.

But then he gave her a fleeting glance as he said "Suit yourself then, I’ll still take you to your detaining room, naked or not and perhaps, the other guards would be entertained by your good service." He remarked with a straight face, leaving her bewildered by his statement.

"You claim I’m not lady like, yet you say the most perverted things, do you talk to all women the same or is it just my directness?" Her lips twisted as she scoffed.

"Get dressed, we’re leaving." He said in a commanding tone.

"You are a skilled mage too, you could perhaps use magic to clean up my clothes or something. I wouldn’t have been disturbing you anyway if I wasn’t in shackles, do you know how hard it is to bathe in these?" She grumbled.

"Do you ever stop complaining and rambling? I’d like a little silence." He said.

"So you mean to say I’m loud?" She queried with a sarcastic smirk hanging on the edge of her lips.

"Annoyingly loud." He completed.

She snorted out a chuckle "Well, I won’t stop being annoyingly loud until you do something about the dress, it makes my skin itch like crazy and it smelled foul too." She whined with genuine discomfort in her eyes as she imagined wearing the clothes again.

"It didn’t smell foul, you smelled foul, but now you’re all clean, so wear the damn dress and stop complaining." He quipped, but then after a short moment of silence, they both burst into laughter.

"Get me damn dress and you won’t hear my voice any longer." She said amidst chuckle, but he didn’t want to stop hearing her voice, unfortunately she didn’t realize it.

"Fine, I’ll get you a dress." He said as his laughter abruptly died down to an empty expression.

"Thank you." She whispered softly and a smile threatened to break out of his lips but he swiftly suppressed it as he turned his back on her, while proceeding to his wardrobe.

Staring at him with confusion masking her face, she wondered why he was walking toward his wardrobe, but then she decided to wait for a minute before voicing out her thoughts, perhaps, he had a dress in there.

The thought of him having a woman’s dress kept in his wardrobe made jealousy tug at her chest slightly but painfully. Who was that woman that he cherished so much to the extent he kept her dress in his wardrobe? She thought inwardly, but her face portrayed the distaste she shared within.

Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted when he turned around, but when she looked at his hands, there was no dress in it, rather there was a black male clothing in it.

"What are you going to do with that? Have you forgotten my gender so soon?" She queried sarcastically.

Without replying her, he hovered his hand above the outfit, trailing his hand from the top to the bottom and within an instant, a soft ripple engulfed the outfit and in a blink of an eye, it transformed into a woman’s outfit.

A fine, black gown with gold entrusting on the bodice area while it fell freely from the waist.

"I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but black is not my colour, unfortunately, it clashes with my hair and eyes." She said in an apologetic tone and he sighed wearily.
