Chapter 336: The Cottage
Eventually, the passionate long night at the hot spring came to an end, and afterward, they returned back to the castle. Immediately they arrived, Rama dozed off while Draco cuddled next to her, silently staring at her exhausted face as she slept peacefully.
The sun rose indicating the beginning of a new dawn, but Rama woke up hours later after having slept to her satisfaction with no disturbance.
She yawned and stretched her limbs as she shot her eyelids open, but the moment she woke up, her golden complexion took on a slight red tinge washing over it as memories of their steamy night at the spring engulfed her mind.
Fluttering her lashes, she whipped her head to the empty space where Draco was supposed to be, but he wasn’t. Her brows twisted as she grimaced at his absence, wondering where he had wandered off to that morning.
As she proceeded to climb off the bed, the clinking of shoes approaching her brought her attention toward it as she looked forward only to find him walking toward her with a tray of food in his hand.
"Breakfast in bed." He announced with that heart melting smile breaking through his lips as he placed the tray in front of her.
She beamed a smile at him as she took in the sight of the delicacy, waffles, tea, and omelet.
"Hmm." She nodded with a pleased look on her face as she inhaled the aroma.
"I made it and yes, I do know how to cook...You just don’t remember." He noted with a quick smile appearing on his lips before it disappeared.
Her brows raised up in disbelief as she darted her eyes between the food and him "You can cook? Since when?" She asked sarcastically as she picked up the fork.
"We took some days off from royal duties and then we stayed in a cottage for a few weeks, there I learned how to cook, we learned how to do menial things together and it was quite nice, peaceful even." As he spoke in a soft tone, a smile grazed his lips while he reminisced about their past.
Her chest tightened painfully as she couldn’t remember the beautiful memory they shared together in the cottage, one that seemed to bring him a sense of serenity and calmness merely thinking about it.
"Tell me more, we seemed to have a really nice time in the cottage." She said with curiosity gleaming in her eyes as she placed her hand atop his, gently caressing the back of his palm.
"You’ve always loved the simplicity of life, you wanted to experience living as a simple farm girl or something, so I came up with the idea for us to live in the cottage for a while." Draco remarked, his eyes peering deeply into hers as he spoke, as if wanting to unfurl the concealed memories before her.
"I think I would love that, the royal life didn’t quite suit me and I realized I love nature." She remarked thoughtfully.
"Yes, you very much do, that’s why the cottage is in the middle of the forest." He pointed out.
"Oh really? Can I go see it, with you of course?!" She exclaimed, her face radiating with pure excitement.
"Of course love, after you eat the breakfast I prepared for you." He implied.
Averting her attention back to the forgotten meal, she gasped "Oh! I’m sorry... The poor meal has been waiting."
He chuckled softly as she hurriedly stabbed the food, throwing it into her mouth as she munched on it in an unladylike manner.
"Hmm." She nodded her head with a pleased smile on her face as she savored the food.
"It’s really good, I feel slightly ashamed of myself that I don’t know how to cook, just slightly." She quipped.
"You don’t need to cook, the only thing I need from you is your presence, I don’t need food to survive, I just need you in my life, everyone else can perish." He said with a straight face, sincerity swirling into the depths of his eyes.
"O...kay, let’s not go to eradicating the entire world because you need only me, but even though it is a sinister thought, it’s still very sweet." Rama said with a shy smile as she gave him a cute look while locking arms with him.
"Well, if the situation calls for it, I might have to." He said sarcastically, but the sarcasm couldn’t dissuade the dangerous glint in his eyes as he spoke.
"Enough of world destruction, I’m done with my meal, I’ll wash up right now, so we can leave immediately to the cottage." She said with a grin reaching her eyes, her voice laden with excitement as she clambered out of the bed.
But as she proceeded to walk past him, he suddenly yanked her by the arm, making her lose her balance as she toppled on him to sit on his lap, while his arm crawled around her waist.
Her heart throbbed in slight nervousness as her back pressed against his chest, she could feel the very slow rhythmic cadence of his heartbeat from behind her.
"Uhm, I need to take a bath, so we can leave." She stuttered, the dust of red scattered all over her cheeks and soon, her whole face flushed red when he buried his face into the nook of her neck.
The feel of his hot breath cascading down on her skin sent a tingling sensation running through her feverish skin and barely had she regained her composure, did she feel his warm lips pressed against her skin as he planted a butterfly kiss on her neck.
Her breath hitched as the feel of his lips brought the memories of last night erupting into her head, but as she was about to fully succumb to his seductive allure, he released her.
Whispering into her ears, he said "Go on and take your bath, I’ll be here waiting, my feisty little princess."
She smiled awkwardly as she hesitantly stood to her feet, walking toward the washroom. Closing the door behind her, she pouted in displeasure.
Quickly, she washed up and clad herself in a simple, silk beige gown, tying her hair up in a high ponytail before emerging out.
She gulped softly as he turned around and when his attention dropped on her, his gaze flickered over her from head to toe before nodding softly in silent approval.
"You look good in whatever and that messy ponytail.." A low growl reverberated from under his breath as he said the last word, his eyes turning smoky, indicating the unspoken words, but she failed to comprehend.
"What happened to my ponytail? It’s quite nice if you ask me, plus I’m sick and tired of maids rolling me up every day of my life, especially in the Silver Castle, they always seemed to wake up earlier than the birds, banging on my door in the morning just to dress me up..." She trailed off with an awkward chuckle as she realized she was ranting.
"You can do whatever you want here, wake up whenever you want, just not too late, I’ll miss you too much." He said, extending his hand to her, which she took with a demure smile.
Walking out of the room hand in hand, they strode through the corridor while she leaned on his arm. A few maids passed by and as soon as they saw them, their face turned pale with confusion and disbelief, but amidst their disarray, they quickly bowed deeply before scurrying away.
She wasn’t oblivious on the shocked faces, after all they must have been confused since he had been imprisoned and she had been away for a year, technically they had vanished from the face of the earth and had now reappeared, but she didn’t let it bother her anyway, she was already used to the stares and whispers.
"I’m curious about why you gave me that name, feisty princess. Was I always feisty?" She suddenly queried as she craned her head up to steal a glance at him, breaking the stretching silence.
"Ahh." He smiled at her "You were always feisty with a sharp tongue that would have accounted for your death more times than I could count, but luckily, your candor piqued my interest." He said directly.
"Oh, my candor. How refreshing." She chuckled.
"Before leaving for the cottage, we’ll first take a detour to the painting room, I showed you the private garden, now, I’ll show you the painting room. They were your favourite places." He said with a hearty tone as he led her to the painting room.
"Oh, alright then. Did I know how to paint too?" She asked excitedly as she clutched on his arm.
"Yes, I taught you, but I have a favourite painting." He remarked.
"Ooh, what’s your favourite painting?" She asked and he halted in front of a plain, wooden door.
"It’s a painting I made, come see for yourself." He gestured as he pushed the door open.
