Chapter 32: Prey On The Innocent

The day before....[Malika’s side story]

Malika followed Elaine who lead her to an unknown destination, as she taught her everything she needed to know about working as a maid in the land of night creatures.

"Don’t ever look them in the eye." "Always lower your head" "Never raise your voice and always do as you’re told or your head will be hanging on a stake or better still, you’ll be drained."

Elaine informed her sternly and she meekly nodded in affirmation to the rules and warnings she would adhere to, while living as a maid in a kingdom ruled by blood sucking creatures.

Elaine led her through a double door which lead to the spacious room as the kitchen, with a few maids scampering back and forth as they carried out menial tasks.

"When you’re done with working in the kitchen, tend to the garden and afterwards, you’ll feed the wolves at night." Elaine informed her of her duties and she nodded as she bit her lower lip.

Feeding wolves seemed like an arduous task she hadn’t still processed in or even visualized herself doing.

Elaine exited the kitchen and the girls whipped their faces to look at her.

"Hello, I’m Malika." She introduced herself in a polite tone but most of the girls looked at her in a distasteful manner as their eyes scrutinized her from head to toe, making it obvious they were envious of her beauty.

Even though she lived as a maid, she excelled in unique beauty, even superseding some nobles daughters in terms of beauty. Her milky white skin glistened and it was fairly smooth, her golden locks like the golden rays of sunlight adorning her head beautifully.

Her amber doe eyes behind thick, dark long lashes, a small upturned nose and full pink lips comprising the beautiful features on her round face and her physique was an even more additional attribute that made the girls quickly harbor sinister feelings toward her.

She possessed a petite slender figure with curves that were more well defined in the gown she wore that tightened around her small waist, flaunting her beautiful curves to all’s sights even though it was not her intention as the naive girl was oblivious of the beauty she retained.

"We don’t need introduction, go on and start working. Wash the plates!" One of the maid with a plus sized frame snapped almost as if she was having an unknown feud with her.

Malika was confused on why the maids seemed to dislike her, it was obvious in their actions and malicious filled side eye they shot at her. She had always been friendly with the other maids back in her kingdom but now, it seemed different unknown to her that there was a bizarre fight for a higher rank by the maids.

In the kingdom where the night creatures ruled, the female humans would only be deemed to be lucky if they had a unique beauty in comparison to the female night creatures as their birth production was lower in contrast to the humans, so the numerical strength of female vampires were very low, as the birth of males dominated the females.

They would in their perspective, be lucky to be a night creature’s mistress which would ultimately give them a higher rank in the kingdom, from a maid to a vampire lord’s mistress.

Malika undoubtedly stood out in their midst with her attractive features, earning her more foes than she could possibly imagine.

Malika unaware of the unsaid rivalry against the girls with her, silently washed the plates while she felt the girls deceitful eyes on her and loud snickering followed.

After washing of the heap of plates, she resorted to moving towards the garden to tend to it. She found her way around and took hold of some tools to tend to the garden.

All she had to do was water the unusual but striking plants and div out the weeds that had sprouted out from the ground in the midst of the flowers.

It wasn’t as strenuous and uninhabitable as she had assumed it would be, she could manage with her plight, at the least she hadn’t come across a night creature yet and she hoped inwardly she wouldn’t encounter any.

Her thoughts about the vampire kingdom not being strenuous and uninhabitable almost evaporated into thin air when the skies hovering above her suddenly darkened and she gulped at her plight.

Elaine gave her a bucket filled to the brim with butchered pieces of an animal with blood still seeping out of it as it was freshly killed.

"The wolves den is underground, go east." Elaine instructed before exiting from her sight.

Malika swallowed softly before proceeding towards the underground in the east side. The corridors in the east side were dark and eerie as it felt like the wind was whispering words of melancholy into her ears which made her tremble.

A gust of wind whisked past behind her, making her skin tingle in fear, as she frantically turned around to meet only empty darkness and she felt her heart pounding hard against her ribcage.

She turned around to look straight ahead but a loud gasp from her lips echoed in the hallway as her eyes met a pair of red ones belonging to a night creature she had never seen before.

"What do we have here? A lost stray kitten?" The night creature drawled in a daunting way and she froze in shock and petrification mixing its way into her bloodstream.

She quickly averted he gaze as she lowered her face like Elaine had told her to. She couldn’t afford to anger a night creature in her present dilemma.

His fingertips grazed underneath her chin before tilting her head up to look at him, but she averted her gaze from him as it stopped on the floor which she had to strain her eyes for.

"You have beautiful eyes and hair. It’s a shame you’re human." He said, although the last sentence was said in a dangerous whisper.

As silence ensued, he released the bucket from her hold and dropped it on the ground before grasping her arm in an attempt to drag her along.

Malika’s heart flew to her mouth in shock and confusion as she wondered where he was taking her to.

"My l-lord I have to f-feed the wolves." She stuttered frantically as she planted her feet on the ground to haul her movements.

"I’ll assign a different maid to do that. Pleasure awaits." The vampire said with a husky voice as he grazed his eyes to screen her lewdly, before stopping his gaze on her chest which lingered longer than it should have, making her feel uncomfortable.

She was unaware of where he was taking her to, but now at that moment, she didn’t need an explanation.

It was obvious he wanted to bed her which left her in a state of disorientation. It seemed the night creatures were discourteous in their ways and manners, bedding an unmarried stranger, but she couldn’t let it transpire.

She had retained her body for her future husband per their customs and traditions, although there was no future for her anymore other than a maid, she would never visualize herself with a strange man, talk less a night creature.

"Please let go. I cannot give you the pleasure you desire my lord." She said in a very low voice meekly, hoping they words didn’t offend him too much to warrant her head on a stake.

"Nonsense. You’re sculpted for pleasure obviously." He said nonchalantly and proceeded to dragging her through the halls while she tried to push him off with futile actions.

"Please..." She begged with tears pooling at the brim of her eyes as she anticipated the horrendous things he would do to her and no one would be able to save her, making adrenaline flow through her veins in dread.

"Zamiel!" The man called out to the figure standing in front of them, blending with the thick darkness. She recognized him as the vampire that captured her from her kingdom.

"Aren’t you supposed to be feeding the wolves?" He ignored the vampire as he directed his question to her.

"Y-yes, I was about to, but he..." She trailed off as she chocked on her words.

"Go on." He ordered and the night creature whose grip tightened around her arm, loosened up and disappeared out of sight with an exasperated sigh.

The tear drop filling the brim of her eyes, unexpectedly rolled down her cheeks and his brows creased.

"I was scared earlier." She said in a rushed tone as she wiped off the tears from her face.

"The wolves are caged." He said stiffly and she gently shook her head.

"It’s not the wolves. It was him." She said in as very low tune but ever word was heard by him.

He stared at the girl in front of him who was trembling like a little bunny drenched in the rain. Knowing how the female humans craved for a higher rank, with beauty like hers, she could easily become a vampire’s mistress but here she was trembling from a night creature’s attempt to touch her.

Her naivety and innocence stirred his beastly sides, as monsters had the dark instincts to devour an innocent soul and her soul was as innocent and pure as untainted snow, he wanted nothing more than to devour her right then and there, but rather he veered around and retreated, ignoring his monstrous instincts that resided in him.
