The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 315: Falling Again
Chapter 315: Falling Again
Her breath quivered when Draco moved an inch closer as he leaned toward her, his demonic aura pulsating through the air like a rippling wave of darkness.
Despite being frightened to the marrow of her bones, she stood her ground as she locked eyes with him, her jade eyes lost into the whirlpool of inky darkness in his eyes.
"Can you still find the light?" His voice rumbled deeply underneath his breath as he spoke in a menacing form, one that made a torrent of chill cascade down her spine.
Could she still find the light within those depths of darkness? She thought to herself, but then she realized she couldn’t change his true nature, he was one with the darkness and rather than forcing him to change it, perhaps she could accept it.
She suddenly blurted out without thinking twice about what she was about to spew.
"If you’re the darkness then I will be your light."
Her immediate response left Draco speechless for a moment, his cold, dark orbs suddenly kindled a spark of flame within the petrifying blackness, and then he stood straight as the dark air around him dissipated into thin air.
Within a blink of an eye, everything went back to normal, not that he wasn’t as menacing as usual, but his demonic form was now concealed beneath an invisible mask, his black eyes slowly turning reddish-gold as flames seeped into it.
She almost sighed in relief, but she stifled it back, in case he heard. She tried to lie to herself in the land of delusions that she didn’t care a tad about the demon’s feelings, but she knew she did. She was weirdly conscious of her actions and words to refrain from hurting his feelings in even the slightest.
She was supposed to hate the cruel demon, but it was difficult and an almost inconceivable facade to keep up with especially with the enigmatic strong pulling her to him like a magnet. She cared about him so much it made her heart ache even though she had only just met the familiar stranger a day ago, but the bond they shared was impossible to ignore.
It was outrageous to her that she felt so connected to him, the demon stranger she was terrified of just earlier, it was like a dream while she was floating in the land of oblivion. Perhaps he was right, the bond they shared was inevitable which made her wonder just how powerful it was.
While she was drowning in her own thoughts, Draco stared at her in silence, his gaze as tender as the petals of a blooming flower before he finally broke it.
"You still overthink about everything, it’s remarkable how you’re still the same but you just don’t remember me."
"I don’t remember everyone else, but you seem to know a lot about me. It’s impressive." She mumbled the last words out with an indifferent expression, but inwardly, her heart fluttered slightly.
His eyes trailed from her eyes down to her chest in one swift motion, leaving her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she instinctively crossed her arms over her chest.
"Where’s your necklace?" His eyes hardened as he questioned in a displeased tone.
"Huh?" Confused, she touched her empty neck while looking at him for some sort of explanation.
Dipping his hand into his trouser pocket, he brought out the crystal tear drop necklace Aurora had given to her.
"You were wearing this instead rather than the necklace I gave you. You might not have remembered, but you didn’t have to take it off." He remarked, leaving her with twisted brows in puzzlement.
"What necklace?" She asked.
He extended his fisted hand toward her and her eyes narrowed to the ruby bracelet wound around his wrist, but then her eyes dilated when it became familiar as she realized what he was talking about.
"Oh, I-I never took it off, I have no idea how it disappeared. I think I lost it perhaps while I was running through the woods with Dalen." She said defensively, while she mentioned Dalen’s name in the echo of a whisper.
Saying his name made her relive the memories of his horrid death and it quickly turned her mood sour.
"If you lost it, I’ll find it." He said.
"You gave it to me, didn’t you? They told me it was my parents’s." She said, darting her eyes away from his, she couldn’t look at him then, not when she remembered the horrid death he gave Dalen. Perhaps, she needed some time to forgive him for what he had done and forgive herself too for caring about the monster she was supposed to hate.
"I wonder how many more lies they told you." He murmured darkly under his breath.
"They only did that to keep me safe, for you. You should be more appreciating." She snapped, her eyes angry as she glared at him.
"Right, yet he dared tried to have you for himself, so much for protecting you." He scoffed.
"You are such a jealous man." She quipped with a half smirk hanging on her lips.
"You were always so jealous too feisty princess, I had to wipe out my mistresses and every other woman you were jealous of." Draco blatantly spouted out with a neutral countenance.
Rama’s eyes suddenly expanded in size as she looked at him with bewilderment, hands clamped over her mouth while she stood frozen as she maintained eye contact with him, trying to discern whether it was dark humour or he was being realistic about his confession.
"Don’t act so shocked, your jealousy was unmatched." He pointed out with a short chuckle, his lips tearing apart to reveal his teeth which only added to his beauty.
The beautiful ring of his laughter was daunting yet mesmerizing, she was trapped in a trance like state. She was slightly displeased about how short his laugh was, it was beautiful to hear and when he laughed, he looked similar to an angel, his dark essence fading into the light of his laughter, but for only a beating moment.
"You didn’t have to kill them, it was uncalled for." She spoke softly.
"It was called for, love." He said, that sadistic glint flashing through his eyes never went unnoticed by her.
"Perhaps, you enjoy killing, but before you do, put others into consideration. Mercy doesn’t make you weak, the need to be feared by others is what truly makes you weak." Rama intoned, seriousness etched into her face.
"As always, your tongue is sharper than your blades, I once threatened to cut it off." Draco said, a nostalgic smile tearing through his lips.
Her lashes fluttered as she swallowed cautiously "Something tells me our relationship during our first encounter was quite rough, wasn’t it?"
"We were enemies Rama, what do you expect? But despite all the threats I gave to you, I lied to myself saying I didn’t want to hurt you because you wouldn’t feel it, so I hurt others close to you instead." He stated out reminiscingly.
"So what was the truth then?" She inquired with curious eyes.
He hesitated for a second before confessing "I didn’t hurt you because I couldn’t. I found it hard to hurt you because I would hurt myself too, you were the only person whom I hated the look of fear from, I hated how you stared at me with revulsion in your eyes, but I was too weak to admit to it, to admit to the truth, so I hid who I truly was because for the first time in my life, I cared about what someone thought about me. I was never one to care, but you made me feel and do things I never expected of myself either."
Silence fell awash on the garden after he spoke, while Rama gave him an empathetic look, her heart softened by his earnest words as she tried to grapple with the torrent of emotions brewing within her. She could feel it at the pit of her stomach, it was warm and fuzzy, she liked the endearing feeling but she couldn’t let herself to be taken off guard by him or else she would succumb to the maelstrom of temptation and his irresistible charm.
"I will remember those words when I regain my memories..." She paused. "...and taunt you with them." She added in with a mischievous grin playing on her lips.
He chuckled out and this time, it was a tad longer than the last as he laughed with genuine amusement by her unexpected words, his ember eyes twinkling with affection.
While he laughed, she just stared at him, lost in a trance of his enthralling beauty. He seemed so serene, a shadow of his demonic self as a light aura basked him in a warm glow.
As she watched him, a subconscious smile appeared on her lips, it wasn’t too difficult to fall for him all over again, he was effortlessly charming, it scared her because she knew she was already falling for this handsome devil, she could feel it in every throb of her heart, every beat pulsating with the echo of love.
