Chapter 29: Into The Devil’s Chamber II
Rama strode down the hall way in search of Reina, she’d teach her how to prepare a bath or whatever. She took a turn toward the intersection of the hall where she came out from and a figure abruptly emerged out of the intersection almost bumping into her.
She shrieked as she jumped back in fear, startled by the sudden appearance, until her eyes met a pair of empty red ones belonging to Zamiel. The calm look masking his face didn’t do much to dissuade the melancholy brewing underneath it like an eerie storm concealed beneath the ocean.
Her lashes fluttered unnervingly as his unwavering gaze locked on hers and she instantly lowered her head to avert her gaze from his. She saw his figure move past her without a word and she tilted her head up to steal a glance at his retreating figure that seemed to blend with the darkness until he was lost into it.
She let out a soft sigh and proceeded beyond the halls, sliding one tired foot after the other across the marble floors.
"Reina!" Rama’s sharp voice echoed across the hall as her eyes narrowed to the figure moving in the hall. Reina veered around and started moving toward her with a tiny smile on her lips.
"You came out alive." Reina exclaimed in a tease.
"He told me to prepare his bath, but I don’t know how and he evidently doesn’t care." Rama blurted out and Reina let out a short chuckle.
"You remind me of my first time here. It was awful, but don’t you worry. I’ll assist you in the best way I can." Reina said with a small smile as she reminisced on past memories and she motioned for Rama to follow her.
"That’s kind of you." Rama said as she followed behind. She hoped Reina wouldn’t say anymore, she was too tired and hungry to hold a conversation with the talkative, but she spoke anyway till they arrived in front of a wooden double door.
She lead her into the spacious kitchen with various kitchen equipment and utensils inside. Some crumbs of food lay on the table and Rama subconsciously salivated at the sight.
"You haven’t eaten yet? You should have paused during washing and eaten something first. You know, you’re no longer a princess so no one cares if you’ve eaten or not. They won’t serve you food." Reina remarked as she dished out some food from the pot onto a plate.
"I didn’t want to get in trouble." Rama said with a low voice as she took the plate of food given to her by Reina and she sniffed, holding the tears that stung her eyes back.
It was difficult to accept her predicament and every single time she was reminded of her plight, she wanted to fade away into thin air rather than live with the unnerving guilt, grief and pain that overwhelmed her entire being.
Reina’s face softened as she looked at the girl in front of her. She could tell just how erratic the state of dilemma she was in, it was apparent her soul was numb and her heart sufficed with pain.
She wiped the falling tears with the back of her sleeve and started eating the food while Reina watched her in silence.
"First, you’ll boil water for his warm bath. It’s really not difficult and perhaps if you’re lucky, he’ll let you scrub him." Reina drawled with a sheepish grin on her lips after she was done with eating.
Rama’s face twisted with disgust, as her body subconsciously shivered at the thought of her scrubbing the vampire king.
"That’s far from lucky, it’s disgusting." Rama snapped as she took hold of a kettle and filled it with water, while Reina helped her make the fire.
"The vampire king is in all ways, the embodiment of perfection, I mean he’s dangerous but the women are all drawn to him anyway despite the danger signs." Reina remarked with a sarcastic smirk on her face.
"He’s in all ways, the embodiment of darkness. How are you all so blinded by a beauty in which a dark monster lays beneath it?" Rama said in fury as she placed the kettle of water firmly on top of the firewood that crackled brightly with fire.
"Look Rama, bad things happen and the faster you accept it, the easier it becomes. He was born a predator and we humans, are his prey. So it’s only natural that he’ll prey on us, but as preys, we could take advantage of the situation, after all it’s the survival of the fittest, if you’re lucky and smart enough, you’ll become one of the fittest." Reina remarked with a nonchalant tone as she shrugged her shoulders.
"We’re not preys, the night creatures are only abusing their dark powers to dominate humans. This isn’t survival of the fittest, this is ridiculous and it’s apparent you don’t see that because you’re dazed by their stupid beauty."
"Could you stop talking and fill the buckets with water from the drum?" Reina pointed out with a blank look.
"Excuse me?" Rama said with creased brows and a frown etched on her face. Reina didn’t seem to take her words into consideration or heed to her advice. It seemed like she had been brainwashed by the night creatures, but deep down she could comprehend a lingering truth in her words, it was bitter but true.
The night creatures were much more powerful creatures and the humans were weaker beings at the bottom of the food chain. The night creatures were predators by nature and the humans being their food source inherently became their preys.
"The water is boiling. Pour it into the buckets until they’re warm enough then you fill it in the king’s bath." Reina instructed while overlooking her words.
Rama pressed her lips in a thin line of scorn before doing exactly as she had instructed. She let out a deep sigh, aware of the fact that she’d have to go up the long stairs with the buckets of water to fill his bath.
"I’m not helping with labour, but when you’re done, I’ll wait here so I can take you to our room." Reina said and she nodded with a tiny faltering smile on her lips.
Rama carried a bucket of water and proceeded toward Draco’s room. The door was slightly pushed open, so she went in. There was no sight of him in the room, so she proceeded to the bath instead and spewed the bucket of water into the expansive shallow structure where the bath was situated in.
She finally filled the shallow structure with warm water to the brim and she let out heavy pants of exhaustion from the strenuous activity. She scurried out of the bath into the room as she screened her eyes around for Draco. She didn’t want to have to refill the water again if it turned cold.
The air suddenly turned darker and colder as she felt a menacing figure hovering behind her. She was familiar with the dark presence and she instantly realized it was Draco standing behind her.
She veered around to meet his crimson eyes that looked almost black now because of the darkness. She hadn’t heard his footsteps and she wondered where he appeared from.
"Your bath is ready." She notified him and he lifted his brows questioningly.
"My lord." She added stiffly and he turned around as he took elegant strides toward the bath.
"Don’t stand there, follow me." Draco ordered and her jade eyes dilated with a frown etched on her face as she stood frozen to the ground.
He halted in his steps when she still refused to move.
"I won’t repeat myself." He emancipated with a firm tone before disappearing into the bath and she forcefully dragged her feet into the bath after him.
As soon as they entered the bathroom, Draco loosed the rope holding his robe securely in his body, not caring that she was present.
Rama mechanically spun around as she turned her back against him with cheeks flushed red in embarrassment and eyes widened in shock.
She stood frozen in position as she heard the soft splashing of water which indicated that he was immersed in it.
"You’re not here to stand around, are you? Come over here and carry out your duties." She heard Draco’s daunting hard voice echo in the bath and she gulped softly before she gradually veered around to meet his crimson eyes peering into hers.
His lower body was immersed in the water with his upper one revealed as he leaned against the edge. She tried hard not to stare but her eyes darted to his taut hard chest, his sculpted abs, strong necks and muscular veiny arms.
Even though he looked like a perfectly sculpted god, she could never visualize herself drooling over a blood sucking murderer, the mere thought irked her.
His hand extended toward her with a sponge in his hold, motioning for her to take it. She took careful steps toward him and took hold of the sponge.
Her hands slightly trembled as she took hold of the sponge and applied scented oil into the water. She soaked the sponge with water before scrubbing it against his pale skin. He wasn’t looking at her and instead staring into space as though he was lost in thoughts and for a split moment, she wondered what he was thinking about.
She applied more pressure as she scrubbed his chest area and his head whipped toward her direction as he swiftly grasped her hand in his with a firm hold, halting her movements abruptly.
"Be gentle or do you want me to show you how its done?" His husky voice was distinct from his daunting one and rather, was alluring which made Rama speechless for a split moment.
