Chapter 274: A New Dawn In A Foreign Land
Immediately Rama arrived at her chambers, she hesitated for a moment before gobbling up the content in the vial that the Silver Witch Queen had given her.
The moment she consumed the potion, the fear that had been clotted in her heart suddenly dissipated like mists and her eyelid felt heavy with sleep.
Staggering to the bed, the world around her dazed into a foggy dream as she tucked herself in for a peaceful sleep.
The sudden brightness enacted by the sun threatened to disturb her sleep, but she turned to the side as she hid herself under the blanket.
Unyielding to wake up from the most peaceful sleep she was certain she ever got, an abrupt loud knock on the door disrupted her tranquil slumber, making her almost spring up from the bed, startled.
Her eyes flared open as she sat up on the bed with an audible grumble rolling off her lips. Shooting the door with a subtle glare, she scrambled out of the bed lazily as she proceeded to figure out who was disturbing at that time of the day.
Swinging the door open with little or no effort, two female white witches stood in front of her with their heads bowed. They were dressed similar to the helps she had seen roaming around the other day, with their hair styled in braids and clad in a simple white dress.
"Good morning my lady." They both greeted in unison before lifting their heads up to look her in the eye.
"Good morning, how may I help you?" She asked in return with a polite smile etched across her lips.
"The Queen requests for your presence in the dining hall, she insists on having breakfast with you." One of the maids spoke.
"Oh, alright then. I’ll have my bath and dress up immediately." Rama said, her tone slightly hasty the moment she heard the Silver witch queen wanted to have breakfast with her.
"We’re your help, we’ll assist you in everything you need." They said immediately as they squeezed themselves into the room.
"Uhm, no that is absurd, I can wash myself." Rama remarked with furrowed brows as she eyed the maids skeptically.
The maids exchanged glances "But my lady, i’s our job..."
Rama abruptly interrupted "I will wash myself, you can dress me if you must but I’m not a doll." With that said, she swerved around and marched to the washroom.
After securing the door to prevent the stubborn maids from barging in, she peeled her clothes off and waltzed into the crystal sculpted tub filled to the brim with steamy water.
It was soothing but immediately she soaked in, a torrent of nostalgia shrouded her for only a millisecond, leaving her with goosebumps manifesting on her skin.
She felt nostalgic, but unfortunately, there was not a flash of memory to recollect in her head, the path to her memory labe was pitch black and unrecoverable it seemed.
Like deja vu, she could feel the memories but as usual, it was impossible to remember even the slightest details, it always left her reeling in confusion.
After she was finally done, she came out of the washroom to find the maids waiting patiently. Like a doll, she sat still as they clad her in a beautiful silver lined dress and dolled her up for her appearance to the Queen.
She observed herself in the mirror for a second, although she was a ravishing woman and her mere sight was capable of turning heads, but her physical looks seemed to matter in minimal significance to her, she was rather invested in retrieving her lost memories.
Thanking them for their assistance, they led her to the dining hall. The maids retreated as soon as the double doors were pushed open, and the sight of the silver witch and Dalen seated appeared before her as they engaged in their breakfast.
Immediately her presence was known, and their heads whipped toward her direction in synchronization. A grin tore through Aurora’s lips with discernable admiration in her eyes and when her gaze darted to Dalen, he appeared dumbstruck as his lips slightly parted.
His grey, tinted silver eyes gleamed with surreal awe and she saw him swallow nervously as he rose to his feet, pulling out a chair for her like a typical gentleman.
As she approached closer, her confidence seemed to dwindle like sand in water as their icy silver eyes peered keenly at her. She admitted being dolled up intensified her bewitching look and left them dazzled, but with them staring like that, especially Dalen, she was sure to have a panic attack.
Dalen bowed softly as he drew the chair out for her and she curtsied to the both of them with as much composure as she could muster even though she felt her legs wobbling beneath her skirt.
"Good morning your Highness, Lord Dalen." She greeted as she darted her wavering eyes between them before taking the seat drawn out for her.
Dalen beside her, which she found a bit weird or perhaps she was overthinking about everything.
"How was your night’s rest? Did the potion work?" Aurora asked in a light tone.
Rama noticed she was a natural at everything, her voice and demeanor emitted confidence, she was a born natural with a motherly nature, probably how she had easily won her trust in their first moments of meeting.
It was strange that she had accepted her new life without a memory in a foreign land without any hesitation but at the same time, it didn’t feel strange. She felt solace in their midst yet her heart longed for a distant home she knew nothing of.
The myriad of sensations were just incomprehensible to discern, as if her mind was trapped in a foggy, ethereal dream of oblivion but her soul yearned for escape no matter how comfortable the dream was.
"I had an amazing sleep, thanks to you." Rama said with a sigh of relief, only she knew of the terror that had paralyzed her from the uncanny nightmare she had.
"Go on and eat, you must be starving." Dalen gestured. Despite the variety of delectable dishes covering the table, the bowl of a reddish soup made her salivate subconsciously.
Nodding, she gobbled up the soup hungrily. Immediately it coated her tongue, her taste bud sparked with delirium as it flowed down her throat. It tasted better than it would have imagined.
Meanwhile Aurora and Dalen watched her intently as she slurped down the soup. She was still a vampire even though her memories had been erased, but they couldn’t disclose the shocking news to her, so they thought of suppressing her vampiric abilities and hunger for as long as they could.
In the soup was a mixture of blood and tonics that would help subside her thirst for blood in days or weeks even and conceal her vampiric abilities from her own knowledge.
To her and everyone else, she was human and that was the way it would remain until the truth was ready to be revealed.
"What was your nightmare about last night? You appeared horrified." Aurora asked, suddenly breaking the silence with her airy voice.
The mention of her nightmare made it appear vividly in her eyes. Those cold, burning golden eyes still struck terror in her chest even though it wasn’t real, but it’s dark essence felt too real to be just a figment of her imagination, she was certain of the dark entity’s existence and the mere thought of it being real shriveled her bones.
"Rama?" The smooth baritone voice of Dalen jolted her out of her trance like state as she averted her gaze to him.
"Sorry, I was..." She trailed off, her voice betraying her as it quivered with perceptible fear.
"It’s alright, take your time." Dalen assured her.
"I saw a man with golden eyes in the forest, but he didn’t look like a man...." Rama muttered under her breath as if whatever she had seen was lurking around the corner, listening to her.
"What did it look like then?" Aurora asked, her voice quiet and persuasive.
"A demon." Rama blurted out in a whisper, her eyes wide with horror as she mentioned the word as if it was a forbidden word.
Aurora didn’t like the look of things or the route things seemed to be going in. If Rama was now frightened of demons from a nightmare, she visualized worse if she were to luckily encounter Draco who also happened to share an uncanny similarity with the demon in her dreams.
"It was only a dream, your mind tends to create grotesque images and scenes especially when it is at it’s most vulnerable state and right now, your mind is vulnerable and it easily adapts to whatever you see or hear, it was only a nightmare don’t think too much about it."Aurora assured her with an even more reassuring smile, but a pang of doubt pricked her mind.
That was no mere dream, that was the devil.
