Chapter 248: The Devil’s Offer
As she spoke, the heavy smell of brimstone mixed with darkness collided, it felt as if the walls were closing in on her as the room thickened with anticipation and a shadowy essence which was undoubtedly stimulating from him.
His relaxed face was suddenly contorted into a scowl of revulsion as he slowly stood up from the bed, the muscle in his jaws ticked and she could hear his soft breath escalate into a ragged one.
His chiseled features are normally etched with a history of conquests and a legacy of terror. Yet, at that moment, his countenance betrays a seething turmoil, a storm raging within the confines of his formidable presence.
The air crackled with malevolence as Zamiel paced back and forth across the chamber, his clawed fingers clenching and unclenching. His mind, usually a calculated abyss of cunning strategies, was now consumed by a fervent rage born from the precarious situation that had unearthed his deepest insecurities.
With each passing moment, the tendrils of rage tighten around Zamiel’s heart. He envisioned the devil, the cunning entity draped in sable darkness, slithering into his domain to tempt Malika with an offer, conveying to her a sinister proposition that would threaten to sever the tenuous thread of loyalty including Draco and Rama, it was a strategy of his, plunge them into confusion and mistrust before breaking them apart.
Zamiel scrutinized Malika’s countenance, her eyes, once brimming with warmth were now clouded by the devil’s insidious words. The very thought of Malika considering the devil’s proposal ignited a blaze within Zamiel that surpassed the fires of the infernal realm.
In the depths of his seething anger, Zamiel grappled with conflicting emotions. The vulnerability of his mate, exposed to the devil’s treacherous schemes, incited a visceral need to protect her at any cost.
Dark energies surged and swirled around Zamiel, mirroring the tempest of emotions raging within him. The walls of the chamber resonated with the echoes of the suppressed malevolent force brewing within him, a symphony of wrath and anguish that reverberates through the underworld.
Yet, amidst the disruption in his mind, a chilling resolve takes root in Zamiel’s being. His jaws clench with determination as he vows to confront the devil, to alter the course of his offer, and to unleash a retribution so profound that it would etch his name into the annals of infernal legendary.
"Malika." He called as he approached her with the intensity of a predator, his voice distorting into a guttural growl as he peers his gaze into the profound depths of her eyes.
Malika’s body quivered involuntarily as she could sense the palpable unrest and discomposure in his demeanor, the sinister air in his darkened aura couldn’t go unnoticed, it plunged the room into a state of darkness all of a sudden.
"What did he offer you?" Zamiel asked, his stern voice heavy with prudence, as a wary glint flashed across his eyes. He was well aware of how tempting and mind-reeling the devil’s sinister offers were, they were irresistible that even the purest of hearts found it hard to fight against.
Malika hesitated as she moved back, reluctantly spewing the words out "He would grant us freedom and no longer punish us." She said in a tiny voice as she locked and unlocked her fingers together.
Her nervous gaze could barely reach his twisted face cloaked in a mask of darkness, as he seemed to be enraged and in a state of turmoil.
She heard him sigh as he paced to the side before asking "And what did he ask you to do for him in return?" His tone was now bland, unlike earlier.
She swallowed softly before replying "Release something."
For the first time during the conversation, she looked at his face, visible emotions were etched onto every inch of his gorgeous features. His crimson eyes darkened with rage mixed with caution, almost turning them black even as the sunlight reflected on them.
His nose flared with smoke billowing from them, his sharp jaws sharpened even more like the edge of a dagger as his jaws clenched in unease and his red full lips were thinned as he pressed them in a straight line of repulse.
"Release what" He queried with a hardened facade, his darkened eyes narrowed into dark slits for a millisecond which she couldn’t comprehend whether it was a hallucination or it was real.
He asked her a question, but his lost composure and the knowing look in his eyes seemed as though he was already aware of the answer, but rather than asking she gave him a response, he was already impatient enough.
"He said it was an entity imprisoned in the King’s chambers." Malika disclosed this to him.
Rather than being surprised or confused by what she had just revealed to him, his feelings were no longer fathomable as he nodded with a blank expression. How he just switches from one mood to another never seized to marvel at her.
In one moment he was enraged and in the other, he adopted a neutral facade, but within the ice enclosure of his nonchalant expression, there was a flicker of inner turmoil that she could easily perceive from him.
"That bastard." He cursed with his breath, almost breaking through his blank look. Immediately she disclosed to him the truth, he could figure out the schemes that the devil was brewing within the shadows, while watching with keenness like a predator watching it’s prey.
"What’s wrong? What did Draco trap?" She queried with curiosity and fear whirling its way into her large, innocent eyes.
She was unaware of what was occurring at the moment and the connection between everything, of Lucifer, Draco, and the dark entity trapped in the castle, hidden from the light of day and the knowledge of others.
Approaching her with heavy footsteps, he grabbed her by the arm as he questioned her with a melancholic look basking his face "What did you say to him, Malika? You didn’t take his offer, did you?" He asked with a lethal look brimming his eyes as his veins popped, but his grip on her arm tightened subconsciously as his dark sides were suddenly stimulated by his irrational state.
"You’re hurting me." She indicated in a whisper.
Realizing this, he quickly retracted his hand away from her. The enraged look brimming his eyes was suddenly replaced with a remorseful one as he apologized "I’m sorry Malika, I lost it."
Anger clouded his eyes again, but this time he was angry at himself for hurting her.
"I’m fine and no, I didn’t accept his offer." She said.
"Good, you shouldn’t." He warned with a heavy voice of caution as he sighed in relief. He was well aware of how many lives the devil had destroyed with his deals, spewing honeyed lies out of his poisonous tongue, luring them into temptations and using their desires against them.
"But if we don’t, he’ll punish us or probably kill us." She suddenly chipped in.
"I’d rather die than accept an offer from him. Striking a deal with the devil is a quicker access to hell, you’ll be damned for eternity and your granted heart desires will be nothing more than pulverized dreams fleeting in front of your eyes." He remarked, his tone carrying with it a weight of eons worth of knowledge and a warning to behold.
"Would you rather watch me die then?" She asked, her voice a smattering whisper as her eyes blurred with tears. She could feel his resolve shake, his willpower to resist wane slowly but not entirely.
"Malika, trust me. The devil’s path only leads to damnation and accepting an offer from him is the ticket you’ll need to the road of damnation, he won’t be saving us in anyway, he never saves anyone, he couldn’t even save his mate, he just stood and watched her die while Draco ripped her apart in front of him." Zamiel remarked, his eyes cold and blank.
"Then what do we do when he comes for us? We barely have much time left." She pointed out in a shaky voice as the words rolled off from her quivering lips.
He was aware she was frightened, scared for them and what the future would hold, but he couldn’t give in to the devil’s sinister yet equally tempting offer. He knew the devil would keep to his promise and steer clear away from them and grant them their freedom if she released the dark entity, but he could also comprehend the dangers ahead.
It always led to a perilous path one way or the other, no matter how easy the bargain was, no matter how safe and secure his promises were, there was always an invisible danger lurking around, waiting for them to accept so it could strike them while their guards were down, while they thought they were safe and free, it would on a random day appear and prick them like an awaiting karma, the aftermath of accepting the devil’s offer.
