Chapter 244: Daunting Yet Enthralling
Chapter 244: Daunting Yet Enthralling
Malika swallowed, standing in front of her was the ruler of darkness, King of the underworld, the embodiment of evil itself.
Her breathing came out forced and shallow as she fixed her gaze on him with wary keenness, fear cramming her mind as she pondered on what she had done to encounter the devil itself.
"You should be afraid, but I’m not here to hurt you." His voice rang in the air like dark clouds rumbling softly, it was calm but the brewing storm hidden beneath his tone was discernible.
She was torn between whether to be more afraid now or less afraid, but either way, his presence there conveyed an inauspicious meaning to her, after all a visit from the devil was certainly not for a pleasing reason.
"W-What do you want from me?" She managed to speak out, her voice slightly higher than a whisper but it still cracked with fear as she spoke.
A smile depicting the darkness suddenly sliced through his lips, the wicked grin adorning his daunting yet enthralling face, made her skin crawl with terror. His smile seemed to amplify his darkness, rather than his cold, neutral facade.
"It’s not what I want from you, it’s what I can offer you." He said as the smile fades into the mask of darkness cloaking his chiseled features, his voice slithering across the darkness.
Her breath hitched and her body movements tensed as she moved her feet back, shifting away from him. She was well aware of the devil’s cunning tricks and deceptive lies he spouted out, he was never to be trusted, especially when he offered something and it was never for free, there was always a detrimental price to pay.
As a child, growing up in the realm of mortals, tales were whispered of the Devil’s dealings, where desperate souls seek his favors, unaware of the treacherous price they will inevitably pay.
Rumours were infamously carried far and beyond by rumor harbingers, of how the devil would tempt desire hungry mortals and immortals alike, using the vulnerability of their strongest desires against them, luring them into the web of lies and temptations, and no doubt he was trying to trick her into the deceptive allure of his sinful tongue.
His presence was a chilling reminder of the fragility of human desires, a cautionary tale etched into the annals of history, a reminder that every bargain with the Devil exacts a toll far greater than the initial temptation.
She gulped warily as she asked "What do you mean?" her voice a smattering whisper echoed softly.
"I’m here to offer you a deal." He pointed out blatantly as he moved closer to her, stepping out of the engulfing darkness for the moonlight to bask his form with a silvery sheen.
Every movement of his was like a captivating dance of darkness billowing against a gentle lake, every step he took exuded a regal ensnarement that could hypnotize one into the dangerous path he tread.
Mists of darkness danced around the chiseked edges of his form as he steps out into the balcony, the wind whipping through his ebony kissed hair and regal attire. The flailing of his hair and dress enacted the symphony of a bewitching and lethal being merged as one, but he terrified her more than he left her entranced.
"I don’t want your offer.." She said with a voice choked from fear, as she moved farther away from him till her back was pressing against the rail, just a slight shove and she would be toppling over the edge, although she could fly, she was still scared.
"You do, you need my offer. You don’t have a choice anyway." The words rolled off his tongue in a lazy drawl, a hint of danger coating it.
She clutched on the rails tightly "W-What do you mean?" She stuttered in a very low voice, fear audible in it.
Drops of sweat garnished her forehead, her sweaty palms clutched the rails tighter as she waited for him to speak. Fear gripped at her heart with its cold, clammy hands, leaving not a flicker of warmth.
The feeling of helplessness overwhelmed her again in the presence of Lucifer, it was a feeling she thought she would never feel again, but it intensified in every second she spent with him, even without him doing anything other than talking.
"You all went against my rule, overlooked my words and for that you all pay the price. Rama and Draco will be punished, it comes as no surprise, but as well as you and Zamiel." He pointed out, his golden eyes glowing with a fiery intensity as he spoke, but the moment it bore into hers, she flinched as a surge of terror cascaded through her body, making her stagger and she almost lost her balance for a split second, but she regained her composure as she stood straight with shaky feet.
She hadn’t taken his rules to heart with such seriousness, having handled it so trivially before, she realized how much of a danger they were in to have overlooked his rules, he was immortal and the most powerful being in the world, he could easily wipe them from the face of the earth in just a flick of the fingers.
"But you can change all that, neither you nor Zamiel will be wiped away from the face of the earth, nor will you have to worry about me coming between the both of you." His voice was hypnotizingly low, luring her to do his bidding, coercing her mind to conform to his words.
She didn’t want to admit to it, but deep down, she was lured to do his bidding if it meant she could have a peaceful life with Zamiel forever and Lucifer out of their lives for good, after all what could go wrong?
She was well aware of Lucifer’s deceptive schemes and trickery, but she couldn’t help but shove the warning bells aside and force herself to believe that he would fulfill the other side of his bargain if she did as he wished.
"What is your offer?" She asked, her eyes curious with questions, but a shiver ran down her spine as if her instincts were warning her to resist the temptation and turn away from the desires of her heart.
An unfathomable gleam flashed through his smoldering gaze "There’s a door in Draco’s chamber leading to the confinement of an entity, I want you to release it with your powers." He revealed to her.
Confusion masked her face as she was unaware of the imprisonment of a being in Draco’s chambers. Truthfully, she was scared and confused for a lot of reasons and questions running through her head nonstop.
Firstly, she wondered why an unknown being was imprisoned by Draco and most importantly why his father was trying to release it. It unnerved her because if Draco couldn’t kill it and rather imprisoned it, it was definitely for a good reason and it was obvious that whatever it was, was treacherous and better left suppressed in whatever confinement it was trapped in.
"Why can’t you do it yourself?" She blurted out, her brows creased tightly with a whiff of confidence in her voice.
"Darkness cannot fight darkness, only light can. The entity was imprisoned with dark powers, only the essence of light can release it, so I’m useless in that aspect that’s why I need you." He confessed, but she was in uncertainty of whether to trust him or not since she couldn’t read his empty face which gave out not a single hint of emotion on it.
"But I don’t know what I’m releasing into the world, it could be a potential threat not only for others but for me and Zamiel as well, so why would I do that when the only reason I would be accepting your offer is to protect ourselves?" She implied.
"Immediately I use it, I’ll make dispose of it immediately, then it won’t be a threat to anyone, and neither will I." He remarked, giving her a promise of a lifetime, one that was tempting beyond words.
"What about Rama and Draco? You won’t punish them anymore if I do as you wish, right?" She queried with hopeful eyes as she comforted herself with the thought that she was doing the right thing for them and everyone else.
"This offer is solely for you, they’re not involved in this deal, and no one else should be but us. I promised to leave you and your mate be, that’s the only offer I made." He stated with a stern look, leaving no room for debate.
"What will you do to them?" She queried, her voice breaking like the floor beneath them.
"No physical harm at least, aren’t I merciful?" His voice was neutral but a hint of mockery coated his words, his golden eyes burned brightly but it was as cold as ice.
She pressed her lips in a thin line, tears pooling at the brim of her eyes threatening to fall out, but she blinked them back.
"Do you accept my offer or not?" He asked, his words sliced through the air like the edge of a sharp dagger.
She was on the verge of a rocky wall, standing between the devil and the deep blue sea. She had to make a choice, in which one would lead her to her ultimate downfall and the other seemed safe but was still an obscure path.
