The Devil's Warrior Queen
Chapter 231: Poisonous Lies

Chapter 231: Poisonous Lies

Draco woke up, his head slightly dazed as he shot his eyes open and sat up on the bed slowly, with a low groan leaving his mouth. His limbs were still aching even after rest, the aftermath of the lethal dark magic coursing through his veins inflicted by the shadow bane dagger.

As he regained his composure and recalled the incident that led to his unconscious state, he heard Rama’s voice from beside him, making him tilt his head to the side to meet her sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Are you feeling well?" She asked with a hoarse voice, making the realization that she had cried hit him.

"Rama." He called as he impulsively held both of her delicate hands in his, apologetic eyes boring into hers.

"What happened to you?" She asked.

Her countenance was oddly neutral and her voice was surprisingly calm, but behind all that composed facade, he could easily decipher the broken fragments of her heart suppressed beneath it.

The beautiful glow in her jade eyes dimmed to reveal the hurt and dismay gleaming in them, it was something no amount of facades or masks she wore on could hide nor conceal from his knowledge. He could feel it, he could feel her distressed and troubled state.

She looked at his face with an unwavering keenness, searching in his eyes for the truth.

The truth was inevitable and he was well aware he couldn’t hide it from her any longer, as she was aware of what had happened already, she had seen him in that vulnerable state he refused to reveal to her in those last few days, that state of anguish that he concealed from her presence with a thick mask and a smile, but now she had seen it all and in the worst possible way.

"Have you ever been unconscious before? I wonder what could have weakened you so much to the extent you lost consciousness and blacked out. While you were unconscious, I wondered what could have made the most powerful being in the universe feel so much anguish and in such a short period of time, make him lose consciousness." Rama said, her voice weirdly soothing and quiet, like the tranquil breeze blowing over a stormy sea while the clouds thundered heavily with lightning.

Silence crawled in the air as their gazes locked like magnets.

"Don’t lie to me, I’ll only find out the truth again in an even more horrendous way." She warned with a rather stern look as if she could read his mind.

With a defeated sigh, he disclosed the truth to her "I lied about the peace treaty between Lucifer and I. The night that I left to see Lucifer, it wasn’t for a peace treaty, it was because I thought he was responsible for what was happening to me, but it turned out it wasn’t him, it was the shadow bane dagger I used to stab myself in the heart."

With every word dripping from his mouth, Rama’s blood froze, horror evident in her dilated eyes which were narrowed at him.

So, apparently, he had lied to her about the peace treaty between him and his father. There was no peace treaty, which meant the devil was still on his malicious hunt to ruin their lives for going against his order.

His sinister schemes to punish them in the most gruesome way possible were still standing firmly in his scroll of decrees and as if that wasn’t enough inauspicious news for the day, Draco’s energy was being sapped by the shadow bane dagger he was plunged in the heart with.

Her body relaxed limply and her shoulders drooped weakly as she scoffed in disbelief. She was well aware that for as long as she lived, she would always be plunged back into the dark path she had chosen for herself, so rather than complain she would never stop fighting, after all that was what she was born and trained to do.

"What?" She blurted out, she couldn’t believe that the peace treaty was a blatant lie he had told to her face.

She wanted to yell in a frenetic manner at him for lying to her, but they had bigger problems at the moment. Draco becoming weak equals being prone to danger.

"I promised to give to you the life you’ve always ever wanted, I wanted you to let go of all your problems even if it was for just a day." Draco said.

"I only want you, you didn’t have to lie about the peace treaty or hide what you were going through from me? You should have told me and we would have figured something out together, you don’t have to do this alone, you’ve been protecting me it’s time I protect you." Rama pointed out, eyes blurred with tears as she released the words.

"Rama, you can’t protect me, you shouldn’t. I should be the one protecting you, you’re my weakness but I’m your strength." He remarked.

Shaking her head, she stated firmly "We should protect each other."

He sighed, nodding silently in agreement with her "You’re right love, we should protect each other."

"Are you sure the shadow bane dagger is what’s draining you?" Rama suddenly queried with curious eyes and creased brows in worry and a flash of fear across her eyes.

"Yes, I can feel the essence of dark magic and Lucifer’s dark essence burning through my heart, it’s like a slow venom, gradually sapping my energy." He explained and her brows creased tightly.

"He enhanced the dark witches magic in exchange for their souls, which they used against you. Certainly he must have been aware of the dark Queen’s plans to weaken you with the shadow bane dagger, but what I do not understand is why he would want you weakened." Rama reasoned out with hiss.

"He always has a motive behind everything, we’ll find out soon enough." Draco said with a dangerous zealous spark in his eyes.

"Can we heal you or perhaps do something to prevent the shadow bane dagger from sapping you continuously?" She implied.

"There’s nothing we can do Rama, unless I rest it out which could take a long time, but I’ll be fine." He said, hiding one more thing away from her knowledge.

In the knowledge of demons, the hibernation method was not only used as punishments to demons who dared to defy the rules, it was also typically known that undergoing the hibernation process would replenish their energy, especially for those who were brutally injured or drained of their demonic powers, which were wielded in extreme usage.

Undergoing the hibernation would quickly and efficiently replenish his energy and get rid of the shadow bane dagger’s dark magic streaming into his veins, but it was out of question for him.

The hibernation process was one he wouldn’t stand for, as he was well aware that Lucifer might trick him with his cunning shenanigans and perhaps, trap him in that state of hibernation for as long as he wanted. He couldn’t trust him, so he would rather endure the pain for as long as it lasted until he would slowly regain his true strength again.

"How much time? What if your unknown enemies tries to attack us while you’re still in your weak state? I’m not as powerful or jnvinbike or immortal as you are, I could die for good. Is there really no other way?" She queried with pleading eyes, but he averaged his gaze and shook his head.

With a vigorous head shake, he gave out a low growl "No, there’s none Rama. I wish there was but don’t worry about it. I may have lost my strength but the unbreakable willpower and enthusiasm to protect you fuels me, I’ll never let harm come to you." He promised with a somber tone as he gazed deeply into her affectionate eyes.

"What about the Silver Witch queen?! Can’t she help us with her white magic or something?" Rama exclaimed, a glaze of hope slicing through her downbeat demeanor.

"No one can help in this situation Rama, I’ll just have to sit it out. I’m no different from a fatigued man who just needs good rest." Draco said with a reassuring smile.

Averting his gaze from her for a split second, he then realized they were back at the castle, in their chambers.

"I brought you back. I was scared when you lost consciousness, didn’t know what to do so I thought of bringing you here, to Zamiel. He always knows what to do." She explained with a feeble voice.

"It’s alright then, but we should have stayed back at the cottage." He said lazily.

"But if something happened, like an attack, we’ll be vulnerable to our enemies living alone in that cottage. It’s best if we stay here for now, where it’s safe and they’re guards." She reasoned out thoughtfully.

He nodded as he cupped her face and kissed her on her forehead.

In a twinkle of an eye, the wistful moments they shared in the beautiful cottage were suddenly replaced with impending danger lurking within.

Their days were counting, the treacherous schemes and machinations of evil forces accumulating their ominous steps lingered near and far, waiting for the right moment to strike.
