The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 220: Hunting
Chapter 220: Hunting
Nestled at the edge of the cliff, they watched as the sun slowly disappeared behind the greyish clouds, enacting streaks of dark red and orange hues across the sky.
As she stared dazed at the ethereal beauty the sunset held, she suddenly tilted her head to the side only to catch Draco staring as always.
Whenever he stared at her, fully engrossed, his golden-crimson eyes felt as if they swirled with an unearthly emotion, one she could never decipher.
She was held in a state of chokehold by his fiery eyes immediately their gazes locked.
Gulping, she let out a nervous chuckle as she said "What are you staring at? The sunset is right here."
He tilted his head lazily to the sky, his gaze fleeting past the sunset in a millisecond before returning it to her face "It doesn’t hold a candle to your beauty love, that’s why I can’t stop staring."
Like her lashes, her heart fluttered like butterfly wings, it was a cheesy remark yet it still made her cheeks burn red.
"I came out so we could watch the beautiful sunset together, it’s a romantic sight." She said with a calm tone.
"What’s more beautiful than you? Nothing in this universe is worthy of comparison to a beauty as yours, you are my sunset, my universe, you’re everything love." He remarked with a sardonic grin on his face, but the decipherable look in his eyes when he spoke left her flustered.
Averting her faltering gaze from his, she continued staring at the sunset as she mumbled "Suit yourself." In a bid to hide her flustered demeanour.
As she watched the sunset slowly fade away into the dark clouds, she could feel him watching, even as she stole a peek from the side of her eye.
From the side of her eye, she could see his hands outstretched to her face. Using his knuckles, he caressed her cheek with a feather light trace and then, he flicked a strand of stray hair away from her face.
He started playing with her, twirling a dark strand around his fingers, she liked it, the slight pull and the feel of his fingers massaging her scalp. Nuzzling closer, she leaned her body against his and he wrapped one arm around her shoulder while he played with her air.
"I love this scenery, it feels magical." She muttered as she looked up at him, from beneath her lashes with a wistful smile.
"It is magical, we’re in a paranormal world after all." Draco indicated.
"Yes, but this place it retains a different energy, the spirit of serenity." she spoke softly as she puffed out a sigh of relief.
"Hm, it does."
"It’s so nice here, just me and you." She mumbled beneath her breath as she hugged him tightly.
"It’s always me and you, no one else matters." Draco said, giving her a kiss on the forehead as the vicinity fell into silence.
As she inhaled and exhaled, she could smell the revivified and tranquil scent of nature, the fresh breath of normalcy was a refreshing fragrance that soothed her mind.
The sun finally disappeared into the clouds and she closed her eyes while leaning comfortably in the warmth of his arms.
The cool evening breeze blowing past her and the warmth of his cozy embrace lulled her into the arms deep slumber, making her eyes droop heavily even as she tried to keep them open, but apparently she was overpowered as her brain shut down.
Draco, realizing she had fallen asleep, stayed still as he rocked her softly in his arms. The land was plunged into darkness as the dark clouds hovered above them.
Perched on top the cliff for a while as he stared out into the darkness, he finally retreated back inside the cottage as he placed her gently on the bed, tucking her properly while she slept soundly.
She was a vampire and undoubtedly more powerful now, but he still treated her like a fragile porcelain glass and still would.
Hovering around her for a few moment, he watched her sleep, extending his hand to her face, he traced the silhouette of her face with a delicate touch before withdrawing his hand back.
As he prepared to join her, a tang of piercing pain spread into his chest. He groaned softly as he squeezed his chest painfully, his brows creased and face twisted with agony as the pain intensified like a piercing burn, but it affected only his chest.
Staggering outside to avoid waking up Rama, he barged out of the cottage as he ripped his shirt open to dissect whatever strange occurrence was inducing the pain.
But when he looked down to observe his chest, he saw tendrils of crimson veins running across his skin, but only in his chest area. He could practically hear his own heart beating with a strained rhythm in his ears, the pace was incredibly fast, too fast for a creature as he.
He was confused, but the agonizing pain overwhelmed his senses, he found it hard to think as he smashed his teeth against each other fiercely, but then in the next heartbeat, the pain suddenly stopped, not a single tang of pain pricked his chest and when he observed again, the red tendrils intersecting over his chest area were gone, not a single trace of the bizarre occurrence lingered near.
Hallucination was out of the question for him. Living in the world of supernatural and forces that couldn’t be explained up till this age, he was well aware that a higher force was behind his attack and Lucifer was his first suspect, after all he was surely watching over them, every minute of the way, until he was ready to strike.
Cursing beneath his breath he went back into the cottage.
Closing his eyes to sleep, he calmed himself with the appeasing fact that he was invisible and immortal, whatever Lucifer was trying to do would prove futile results.
He would have shook the underworld with his presence to encounter Lucifer, but he had promised to give her a life of normalcy, he wouldn’t want to break his promise and disrupt her happiness, so he shoved it aside.
He would deal with Lucifer after their short break, while giving Rama the happiness she deserved.
Sunlight filtered through the windows which were just beside the bed, making the sub bask her face in it’s golden light.
Groaning and squirming in unease, she stretched her limbs with a yawn as she cleaned her blurry eyes before opening them. As she sat up, her eyes darted to Draco walking in with a wooden tray laden with eggs, slices of bread and a cup of hot tea.
She smiled at the sight of him walking in, serving her breakfast in bed.
"Such a doting husband, treating me like a princess when we’re supposed to be ordinary couples who lives in a cottage." Rama said in a rather condescending tone, but a smile was lit up in her face.
Taking the tray from him, she looked at the simple meal he prepared, it was looking delicious nevertheless. But then when she remembered that she no longer possessed a human system, her smile dropped.
"It’s alright love, you can eat a few human meals that reacts nicely to our taste buds so go on and eat." He said with an assuring smile and she nodded.
Hesitantly, she took a bite of the bread and it was surprisingly the same taste as before, no funny smell or acrid taste unlike when she tasted other meals.
"Eat your food and take your bath, I’ll be waiting outside for you." Draco implied flashing her a grin that made her heart melt.
"Alright, but are we going somewhere?" She asked, staring at his revealed chest peeking out of his fragile shirt.
"Yes love." He replied with a snarky wink.
"Where? Don’t tell me it’s another surprise." She exclaimed, her eyes twinkling with suspense as she waited for his reply.
"It’s not unfortunately." He said in a rather neutral tone.
"Then where?"
"We’re going hunting." He announced and she nodded, remembering that he loved to hunt.
"We don’t have weapons to hunt though." She reasoned out as she looked around. She didn’t remember seeing any weapons in the cottage when she was exploring the other day.
"But we have weapons love." He implied, a sadistic bloodthirsty glint in his eyes as his voice slithered through the air like snakes.
"What...weapons?" She asked, tilting her head in confusion.
"We are the weapons." He announced with a chuckle.
"Oh, I see."
As the golden dawn kissed the treetops, the both of them ventured into the forest’s embrace. Clad in weathered leather and linen shirts, they trekked through the dense foliage, each moving with the grace of seasoned hunters.
Sunlight danced through the ancient trees, casting dappled shadows on the moss-covered ground as the duo, eyes keen as they sought the bounty of the wild for their morning hunt.
