Chapter 218: Cottage In The Woods
Rama stood frozen as her eyes scrutinized the cottage with admiration and awe, but his promise of giving her an ordinary life for a short memorable moments made her eyes light up with an unfathomable feeling that she found hard to express even with words.
"I love you." She blurted out in a murmur, giving him a radiant smile, as she stretched on her toes, wrapped her arms around his shoulders and planted a firm but short kiss on his lips.
"Do you like the surprise?" He queried, his voice hearty with genuine happiness.
It was a side of him rarely exposed to the world, but it was easily revealed to her and she loved every side. The flaws and the perfections, the good and the bad, she would never need a change.
"I love it, it’s ethereal and the cottage is just splendid, I didn’t think it was this grand nor luxurious." She mumbled out her thought.
Averting her gaze from him, she explored the beautiful cottage. She was stricken dumb with surprise, although she was inexpressible with her words, with no possible rational way of expressing the gratitude and bliss she felt, apart from grinning ear to ear like a child who had been given candy.
His heartfelt gesture of surprising her with a lovely cottage in the woods was simple a touching consideration, it was a memorable moment she would forever cherish and dote on.
Brushing her fingers against the polished wood, she veered around to face him with a face more luminous than the burning sun "We’re going to live here in this cottage?" She gasped as the realization hit her and she clasped her hand over her mouth open agape.
"Yes love, but not forever. After some time later, we’ll have to go back to the castle." He said apologetically, but it didn’t diminish the delightful glow on her face.
It didn’t matter to her, she knew they would ultimately have to go back since he was the vampire king of Voltaire Empire and apparently he has kingly duties to carry out, but the mere thought of spending just a few days or weeks reveling in the normalcy of humanity and enjoying every bit with him while making memories, filled her with a touch of ecstasy.
"I’ll cherish the memories we make here, for as long as we stay, it doesn’t matter if it’s an eternity or a few days." She said amidst giggles as she surveyed the cottage.
"I don’t mean to brag but I built it, every single architecture of the cottage was built by me." She heard Draco’s voice swell with pride behind her as well as his aura.
"That’s impressive! Oh my!" She gasped in amazement as she twirled around, screening every single nook and cranny of the beautiful house singlehandedly made by him. It was simply a flawless and stunning cottage, she almost doubted as it seemed as though it was made by a professional builder.
But the thoughts and work he put into the cottage made her heart flutter with numerous butterfly wings swarming inside her belly. It was the most romantic act of his and she blushed hard.
"You don’t have to be so surprised love, I’m good at a lot of things." He bragged with squared shoulders and she almost rolled her eyes, but she was too filled with delight.
"It’s a beautiful gift, I love it." She sighed dreamily, a grin expanding on her face.
Finally, she could finally experience the simplicity and pleasure of normalcy, although it wasn’t forever, but she would revel in the few days or weeks it would presumably last. Everyday would surely be a memorable one, she would make sure of that.
"There’s also a painting room! Oh and a nice tub! And a pretty kitchen! It’s so cute!" She exclaimed every time she opened a door, her mouth hanging lower and her eyes getting wider with every room she checked.
He had obviously put in lots of work and efforts in building and designing the cottage into a perfect one, she was impressed and flabbergasted.
"There’s one last room you haven’t seen yet love, it’s my favorite." He said with a seductive smirk tugging the edge of his lip up while he ran his tongue over his fangs.
"Oh.." She merely spluttered at his underlying remark. She followed his lead to a door at the end corner of the medium sized cottage, typically bigger than a normal sized one.
As Draco pushed the door open, a beautiful room grazed her sight as they walked in to stand at the middle, her feet were buried inside the soft plush carpet, it was comfy even the room had a homely fragrance that was weirdly soothing her brain. Her lashes fluttered as she explored the room with her eyes.
She had noticed how extravagant and beautiful the cottage was, but seeing the room which was a radical similarity to their opulent chamber in the castle, she could safely assume that a typical cottage the normal villagers had was a far disparity from what Draco had built, but she loved every inch of it, it was nicely different and she loved his taste of design.
It was lovely in every way, she could feel a flickering wave of magic in the air as though faeries had flew around and left behind a trail of magic dust in the air to indicate their presence. It was better than what she had visualized, even more so with Draco by her side.
"The bedroom is beautiful." She said in an airy voice as she looked around with wide eyes, her face still etched with disbelief.
The bedroom flourished with rustic charm, a charm that drew her subconsciously to Draco’s alluring presence.
A canopy bed, draped in rich, earthy linens, sits against the stone wall adorned with intricate tapestries depicting tales of ancient valor. It was simple with soft cotton sheets on the bed, although it was nothing like their extravagant bed, it was more luxurious than a typical villager’s bed.
Soft candlelight flickered from wrought iron sconces, casting a warm glow upon the weathered wooden floors. A small window, adorned with billowy curtains, allowed the sunlight to dance across the room, painting ethereal patterns on the rough-hewn walls. At the room’s heart stood a weathered oak wardrobe, housing garments.
Filled with curiosity, she opened the wardrobe only to find typical town clothes arranged neatly, both male and female clothing. She chuckled softly as she turned to face Draco, genuinely amused by his thoughtfulness for them to blend in with the people at the town just a few minutes from the cottage.
"Well, since you want to experience normalcy, I figured every single memory we would share of this place would be entirely normal, everything." He noted out and she stared at him for a moment in silence, a bright smile crawling up to her lips.
"So, we would cook our own food, go to the market, hunt animals for meat and clean up ourselves. That sounds fun with a slice of work, which is definitely normal." She reasoned out with a hesitant chuckle.
"It will be fun, just me and you in this cottage with the forest and mountains all to ourselves." He whispered to her ears with a dark husky voice behind her. Every word he uttered had the power to entrance and captivate her soul, like a dark sorcerer weaving a mesmerizing spell on her.
Standing behind her, he stroked her bare shoulders before planting a skin tingling kiss to the nook of her neck, she felt his hot tongue swiping over her cold skin before replacing it with his lips as he sucked and nibbled.
Smiling sadly, she caressed his face as she said "I wish we could have all this to ourselves, just me and you in this cottage, away from the world and weight bearing duties, not to talk of our relentless horde of enemies, known and unknown."
"They’re my enemies, but now they’re yours because you’re mine. You don’t deserve to carry my burden, I wish I could give you the life you yearn, the normalcy you crave. I could give you the world but normality is the only thing I could never give you because of my existence, because I was born of a darkness that can never be contained." His voice, a velvety whisper dipped in danger sent shivers down her spine with every syllable.
"I’m not going to complain, or sulk or be miserable because I choose to be with the man I love even if that means the future for us is obscure and there will always be dangers, dangers that I’m willing to fight beside you with. I’m happier than I have ever been and I’m more than grateful with every passing second I spend with you, you’re a priceless gift to me." Her voice, an airy tone of bliss and pristine happiness sated the four corners of the room.
"Merely breathing air by your side is a priceless gift." He said in a low voice, sincerity coating his words.
