Chapter 208: Monster Among Men
She proceeded to visit Malika as she went back into the Castle. While she strolled across the corridors, she came across a few maids who halted the moment they saw her.
They bowed, but she could see their body shake with fear and their heartpace elevated all of a sudden. Immediately they bowed, they scurried out of hesightts.
She wondered what was wrong with their behavior until she heard them whispering, but with her heightened senses, she could easily make out the words.
"She’s been turned into a vampire... Oh my God." One of the maids whispered while the other tried to shush her up.
"She’s become a monster like the rest of them." Another spoke in a distinct whisper.
"I can’t believe it, she was the queen of a human Empire." They continued to murmur and gasp in disbelief as they left.
Rama stood in the same position for a moment as she listened before moving to Malika’s room. She knocked softly on the door and a few seconds later it was swung open by Malika who gave her a wide grin as she ushered her into the room.
"Hello Rama, what are you doing here?" She queried, slightly perplexed at the unannounced visit.
"Can’t I come visit you anymore?" Rama teased as she sat down on the bed.
"Of course you can, I was only surprised." Malika said heartily as she sat beside her.
"Hmm." Rama nodded with a beam as she started out the window. She watched as Malika poured out hot chocolate into two small cups and handed one over to her.
"I ordered it just now, always been our favourite kind of tea." Malika said as she blew on it.
"Yes, the royals complained about how unladylike it was to drink chocolate, they preferred we rather ate vegetables and fruits." Rama scoffed as she reminisced on her days as a princess. It was bittersweet, she hated the rules but loved the fun and dangers that came with it.
"They forced you into corsets every single time, you hated it so much." Malika murmured.
"Even till now, I still never wear it, bunch of clowns they all were, we’re humans not dolls crafted to perfection." She remarked and Malika nodded in agreement.
Rama, forgetting her human system had now been modified into a vampire system, took a sip of the hot chocolate, but immediately the liquid melted on her tongue, she spat it out and threw the cup away as if she had consumed poison.
"I’m so sorry." Malika apologized but she laughed it off.
"It’s alright, I forgot too." Rama said as she sighed drearily.
"Are you alright?" Malika asked but she nodded.
Squeezing her hand gently into hers, she said "I’m fine love, it’s a new phase of my life, I’m just trying to wrap my head around it."
"Oh, well I understand, I’m still trying to believe fully that I’m an Archangel’s granddaughter, it feels so unreal and hard to fully digest." Malika said, sighing in exasperation as doubt clouded her eyes.
"It wasn’t so hard for me to believe, you’re an angel after all, you’ve always been one, I on the other hand don’t even know what I was meant to be, a warrior queen or a night creature, but you, you’ve always been an angel, so nothing has really changed except the fact that you’re stronger and now glowing with a celestial light." Rama implied and Malika smiled timidly.
"I don’t know how I can help you but I want to, so if there is anyway that I can, in even the slightest tell me about it, alright?" Malika assured her with a faint smile.
Rama stared at her for a moment before saying "I want to drink your blood, I’m hungry."
Malika’s eyes widened at her words and she gulped, obviously startled at her abrupt statement, but she didn’t seem to be scared.
"Calm down, I was only joking and it was a terrible one, I know." Rama chuckled and Malika sighed.
"Yes, it was." She breathed out with a short laugh.
Rama straightened her gown, swiping her hands over it thoughtfully "It’s strange how things have changed so much in these past few months. It feels so unreal, everything that has happened."
"I feel unreal, I’m scared and confused, but I’m fine as long as you are here with me." Malika said as she looped her arms with hers, while leaning her head against her shoulder.
"Also, do you know anything about me erasing my memories? Of lord Zamiel?" Malika suddenly asked out of the blue.
Rama looked at her and then sighed "You wanted your memories erased, no one forced you, I only supported you in your decision, you were very hurt and I thought it was best for you too."
"Who erased my memories?" She asked nonchalantly.
"Lord Damien. Zamiel told you about it, didn’t he?" Rama queried with a displeased look.
"What’s the difference if he did or didn’t? My memories are gone anyway, but it’s fine, he’s been more accepting lately, but also slightly strange." Malika stated out.
"Are you fine with that?" Rama asked and she smiled.
"He cares and that’s more than enough, but with time he’ll come around. He didn’t seem to be able to resist for some unknown reason, it was kind of fun seeing him try."
"Right." Rama mumbled out and the room fell silent for a few seconds until she broke it. "What exactly happened in the dark witches lair? I’d like to hear about it, you must have been scared." She said while stroking her hair, hoping to hear something different from what Draco had told her.
"Well, I was scared at first without you or my pendant, but then I got angry when this giant came out of nowhere and roared at me." She said while subconsciously rubbing her pendant as she vividly remembered the scene.
"And then what?" Rama pressed for her to continue.
"That’s when I realized I had powers." Malika paused for a second before she continued "I killed it."
Rama didn’t look surprised even though she had been hoping for her to say something entirely different, but her subconscious state knew that Draco was right.
"And then a dark witch got pulverized to ash with just a touch." Rama completed and Malika tilted her head up to look at her in surprise.
"How did you know that?"
"Draco told me. I was surprised when I heard you singlehandedly murdered two people, our fragile flower has now become so strong." a beam crossed her lips.
"They’re not people, they’re monsters. I would never kill or harm people." Malika said defensively, her voice turning grave with seriousness.
"I didn’t mean it that way, I’m well aware that you would never harm anyone." Rama said, and she smiled.
Hugging her tightly, she said with a voice of gratitude "Thank you for being alive, I don’t know how I could have lived without you."
"Me too. I forgot to tell you, Draco has agreed to bring Michael over so he can teach you how to use your powers, you’d be able to spend time with him now." Rama announced and she saw Malika’s twinkle with excitement.
"Really?" Rama nodded and her grin widened. "Thank you so much." She chirped happily.
"I hope he’s as enthusiastic as you are." Rama teased.
As the girls giggled, the door suddenly burst open with a loud thud that made both girls yelp and jump up in alert.
Rama scoffed when she saw Draco walking in uninvited like he owned every inch of the place, which he did.
"I’m not sorry to interrupt, your grandfather is here can I have my wife back?" He demanded in a lazy tone as he peered his intimidating gaze at Malika who flinched back.
"Her grandfather is here? Angel Michael?" Rama queried.
"Who else would it be? I called for the bastard and he came right away, that summoning process was only a waste of bloody time." Draco bragged with the stench of pride oozing from him and Rama rolled her eyes with a scoff.
Malika’s breath hitched, she hadn’t been prepared to meet him yet, she could feel the tang of nervousness twisting into her skin, a knot tightened in her stomach as she fiddled with her skirt.
"Come right in or are you shy now, Michael?" Draco said with a hint of mockery in his voice as he called out the angel who emerged from behind the door as he stepped into the room.
His mere presence emitted a soft radiant glow enveloping the room, but his face was as hard as a rock and his sapphire eyes were ice cold as he glanced at Draco before dropping his gaze on the girl, his granddaughter. The moment their eyes met, she shuddered at the rush of chilling sensation that overwhelmed her.
She gulped as his cold eyes pierced into hers, as if reading into the depths of her soul like a open book before him. But there he was, standing before her while she was fully conscious, he was ethereal to every marrow of his bone, his presence screamed of a celestial grace and a symphony of knowledge she couldn’t comprehend.
He was the angel from her dreams, but at that moment she wasn’t as pleased as she thought she would have been, she was slightly scared.
