The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 202: Elevated
Chapter 202: Elevated
"What’s happening?" She muttered as she stared at her reflection in the mirror, faint red streaks of veins ran across her skin underneath her eyes as it turned jade.
"It’s hard to explain, but your eye colour turns red only when your senses are uncontrollably heightened, like hunger or intense emotions, it’s different for you since you’ve been turned, but your human essence is still there, it’s never fully gone." He explained, rather still everything sounded like gibberish to her, but she nodded with a hm as her eyes darted everywhere.
The moment her hunger had been satiated, her senses were elevated, she could see within the insides of a tiny crack, she could hear the whispered words emulated by rumour harbingers from a mile away, the flapping of an eagle’s wings as it soared up high in the sky, see through the pores of her skin, or the golden fiery tendrils swirling within Draco’s eyes.
Everything became a thousand times clearer, like she was looking through glass, floating through time and space, she was transfixed by the remarkable feeling that engulfed her, but the most unique feeling in her was the surge of raw, pristine power coursing through her very veins.
"I feel strange.." She whispered as she darted her eyes around, intensely scrutinizing everything her eyes met. "But in a good way." She added with a light chuckle.
"It’s good you’re getting used to it, but now you have to be familiar in wielding it." He implied with a short smile.
"You want to train me on how to be a vampire?" She scoffed.
"Technically you don’t know how, but that can wait." He said.
"It’s not so hard, it’s just heightened senses, inhumane strength and speed, there’s nothing difficult to do." She pointed out with a high chin and a confident twinkle in her eyes.
"Well then, I’ll let you be, after all you were once a warrior queen." He remarked.
"It’s an amazing feeling to have such power, I feel alive, but also slightly scared that I’m getting quickly used to it, I fear that I might forget who I am, forget my life as a human, it unnerves me greatly." She confessed, her confident demeanor slowly tapering off to a gloomy one.
"You won’t forget a thing, your human essence will always be a part of it, so worry not." He remarked with a reassuring smile.
She sighed drearily as she hugged him, melting her body into the comfort of his large one, it was a feeling she missed, the sense of comfort his presence conveyed. It felt as if it had been an eternity since she had last hugged him. It was everything she needed.
She stayed in his embrace, enveloped by his powerful and securing arms for a long moment, but then her thoughts just randomly traveled to Malika. The risks they took and the spilled blood were all for her, the dangers they had willfully walked into without a second thought, the sleepless nights were for her, Malika yet somehow she had forgotten about her, although she had been in a phase of her transition, so technically her mind was in a state of disarray.
"Malika! I need to see her." She said as she abruptly broke the hug to look at his face.
"I’ll order a maid to bring her here." Draco said neutrally as he walked over to the strings and rang a maid. She paced around as the maid arrived and he ordered for her to bring Malika over, before the maid dutifully dispersed from their sight.
"She’s alright, isn’t she? She didn’t get hurt right?" She queried with visible worry etched on her face as she tapped her fingers rhythmically, her jade eyes suddenly had a flicker of red swirling among them but it faded and turned back to normal when she heard him speak.
"She’s perfectly well, Michael saved her." He notions out and she sighed in relief with a smile.
As she opened her mouth to speak, the soft knock on the interjected whatever she wanted to say. She would have been displeased, but a delighted grin split through her lips, aware of who it was behind the door.
Rushing over, she opened the door and a red spark flared into her jade eyes when she met Malika. She pulled her into the room and hugged her warmly, while whispering into her ears "I’m so glad you’re okay and alive."
She was somewhat stiff in her embrace and when she pulled from the hug to look at her face, her brows creased as the girl suddenly burst into tears. She was confused on why she was crying, but being familiar with her, she was well aware that she would have a million reasons on why tears were pouring out of her sockets.
"Malika, what’s wrong? Stop crying please." She whispered to the girl.
Amidst their heartfelt moment, she saw Draco exiting the room while flashing her a glance as he gave the girls some time and space.
"It’s all my fault...Y-You died and then got turned into a vampire, if I hadn’t been so weak, you wouldn’t risk your life trying to protect me." Malika blurted out, choking heavily on her words as she sobbed, her body trembling with a myriad of emotions enveloping her. At that moment, she felt relief, fear, guilt and heartache.
She was happy beyond words that Rama was standing in front of her alive and well again, but the vivid memory of her lifeless body while blood oozed out of her slit throat could never fade, it was a sight she could never unsee for as long as she lived.
The guilt eating through her fragile heart was heavily unbearable, she blamed herself for everything that happened. If she hadn’t been a burden for Rama to shoulder, a weak fragile flower for her to protect and shield from harm, then none of those bad things would have happened, most importantly, she wouldn’t have died.
Rama stayed silent for a moment as she watched her cry with her head hung low. She anticipated seeing her like this, she knew she would blame herself for the cause of their plights but she could never and would never blame her for it.
It wasn’t a sin to be weak, being fragile didn’t make her useless and it never will.
Cupping her small, round face in her palms she tilted her head up to look at her.
"Nothing that ever happened was your fault, it was my choice to protect you and I wouldn’t hesitate to repeat history over again, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid to die for you, anyone but you." Rama remarked, her eyes rigid as it bored intensely into hers.
Malika finally stopped sobbing as she heard her speak, and Rama wiped her tears with a kerchief, dabbing gently on her soft skin.
"But still, I feel so guilty. When I saw your body, I was..." She trailed off as hot tears garnered at the brim of her eyes choked her words, she could still taste the bile stuck in her throat like when she first saw Rama’s body.
"Shhh, I’m alright now and more powerful to protect you." Rama said with a confident smile as she stroked her hair.
Malika’s eyes gleamed with curiosity "How do you...feel?"
"I feel stronger, so there’s no need for you to worry. I’m adapting quite well too to the changes, it’s not that hard really." Rama assured and the girl nodded in amazement.
"I’m happy to hear that you’re happy, I thought you would hate it when you woke up after you were turned." Malika said.
"I would have been turned either ways if I wanted to stay with him forever, but speaking of which, did anyone explain to you?" Rama stated.
Malika’s brows furrowed "Explain what?"
"That you’re an angel and Angel Michael is your grandfather." Rama revealed, scrutinizing every bit of her reaction but surprisingly the girl didn’t seem to be surprised, she was only a shade sadder.
"Lord Zamiel broke the news to me, I do not know how to feel about it." She said with an exasperated sigh as she lazily slumped on the chair with drooped shoulders.
"There’s nothing to be sad about, you have powers now, you no longer have to feel weak or like you’re not enough, at least you can protect yourself while I protect you." Rama pointed out as she sat beside her with an excited giggle as she playfully nudged her arm.
Malika suddenly realized how heavy and intimidating her aura had become, an unusual disparity to her human essence, but she was still the same Rama she had ever known, nothing had changed and nothing ever would for them.
"It’s not about being powerful, it’s just the thought of him leaving when he’s the only family I have, but I understand why he chose that path and I’m not complaining about it." She confessed meekly.
"Then what do you want?" Rama asked, wearing on a serious demeanor.
"I just want to get to know my only family, is that too much to ask?" Her voice tuned down lower as she spoke.
As Rama opened her mouth to speak, Draco barged in as his voice floated across the room "I on the other hand want to spend some time with my wife? Is that too much to also ask?" He said sarcastically.
Malika suddenly jolted out of her seat as she bowed apologetically "I’m so sorry my lord, I’ll be taking my leave now." and then she impulsively rushed out of the room, obviously fear stricken before Rama could even chip in.
She glared hotly at Draco, but he only gave her a wicked wink as he said "Let’s go to bed."
His voice was dangerously husky and low, that familiar aroused voice that made her skin tingle, she suddenly caught the underlying meaning to his words and her heart leapt in joy that finally the time had come.
