The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 185: Concealed
Chapter 185: Concealed
Malika stood frozen as she watched the giant collide against the wall, it crumbled into debris of granite and dust as it crushed the giant, burying it underneath the pile of rocks.
Only one large foot of the giant was visible but it was stiff. As the air stilled with rising tension, she saw blood slowly seeping from underneath the rocks, only then did she realize it was dead, but the question ’how?’ rang in her head.
Thinking Rama had finally arrived to save her, her face lit up with hope as she surveyed the vicinity with desperate eyes, but to her dismay no matter how hard she looked, there was no one present but her and the dead giant.
She was lost in a sea of confusion, oblivious of her suppressed powers that were slowly revealing itself, certainly she wasn’t capable of eliciting such damage with just a scream, she was only human so it was inconceivable for her to believe that she suddenly attained powers from her rage.
As she wrestled with her conflicting thoughts in vain, she felt a tingling sensation in her fingers, like a spark and when she raised her hand to her view, a frightened gasp left her quivering lips as her eyes widened in disbelief and disarray.
Radiating golden wisps danced around her fingers in a glowing symphony, leaving traces of mystic in the air, but as the seconds passed, the golden glow dimmed slowly until it faded entirely.
"Huh?" She examined her hands in an erratic state even after the glow was lost to sight.
Her brows furrowed as she looked at the dead giant buried under the rocks, the dots were slowly connecting as she realized that she might have truly been the cause of its demise, but nothing was making sense to her anymore, it all felt like a dream.
How on earth did the fragile girl attain powers to kill a giant? She shook her head with an empty laugh at the ludicrous situation she was plunged into. She was ensnared in the world of the supernatural, but at that moment, this was beyond the supernatural, it was simply bizzare.
Unable to fully believe that her hand had just been glowing, she decided to examine it again and make sense out of this absurd situation. She licked her dry lips, heart racing in anticipation as she hovered her hands in front of her, while uncertain of what to do.
She clenched her fists and then opened it, she wriggled and shook vigorously but nothing happened, rather only silence kept her company.
Groaning in frustration, she slumped down on the dirty floor, but as soon as she sat down she jolted back up on her feet, and an idea flashed in her mind.
Recalling that the strange event causing the death of the giant had ensued when she was angry, she thought of reliving the moment again, but then she was no longer feeling rage, she was feeling obscured, shocked and disbelief with a slight mixture of fear at what lineage of supernatural creatures she came from, that was if she really had powers.
Taking out a shaky breath as she steadied her composure and focus, she tried to muster all the rage she had felt earlier to trigger whatever powers she possessed within her.
She shut her eyes tightly, her lips pressed in a thin line as she tried to coerce whatever was concealed within, but nothing happened.
She sighed in disappointment as she opened her eyes, leaning weakly against the rusted iron bars. Having powers wouldn’t have been so bad at her current predicament, even though she was left in obscurity and there were questions still left unanswered.
She didn’t mind the mysteries revolving her existence to be raveled until after she was safe and free from danger, whatever powers she retained she knew she needed them now to survive or at least defend herself from the dark witches.
Peering her eyes at the dead giant, she was able to decipher how powerful she was, that was if she wasn’t mistaken about acquiring powers from an unknown source, she wondered if it was her bloodline or something strange had happened to her which she hadn’t taken notice of.
There were rumours of ordinary humans attaining powers from close contact with mystical items or artifacts, not that she had seen one but when she pressed thoughts on it, she couldn’t remember coming across a mystical relic or artifact, although in the crimson moon carnival there were enchanted items but none of which could grant powers to humans when touched.
She didn’t want to be hasty in pointing out facts, but she soon concluded it must have been her bloodline, after all she knew nothing about her family, she only remembered the pendant she got from her mother, but she couldn’t even remember her mother’s face.
Her heart dropped to her stomach when she heard the door by the corner of the room open with a heavy rumble and as expected, she saw three witches troop in one by one, they obviously must have heard the crash, it was a hard one to miss especially when it elicited a minimal quake in the lair.
Among the two pale hideous witches, the green eyed one walked in with them, her green orbs were steely hard as it darted to the dead giant buried under the pile of rocks and then back to her face, for a split second she saw incredulity flit through her dark eyes.
The other witches were as well dumbfounded at the scene, their guttural black eyes in contrast to her warm golden ones searched hers for answers.
The air crackled with suffocating darkness as their squinted eyes narrowed to hers with a nasty glare directly shooting her way.
Before they could speak, she beat them to it as she spoke meekly, while nervously squirming "I didn’t do anything." She lied timidly, but their facial expressions made it clear to her that she wasn’t so convincing.
One of the pale witches marched up to her, extending her clawed hand through the gap, she grabbed her neck spitefully, pushing her forward to slam against the rusted iron bars.
Malika whimpered in pain as her body crashed against the bars and her fingers slowly pierced into her delicate flesh.
"You lowly human, what have you done?!" The witch inflicting pain on her queried with malicious eyes.
Malika gritted her teeth in pain, rage overwhelming her and in her frenzied state of anguish, she grabbed the witch’s arm as her golden eyes glowed with a fierce light.
Golden wisps engulfed her hand as it spread onto the witch’s arm. The witch moved back with trembling steps as she let go of Malika immediately, eyes widened in horror and face twisted in bewilderment, but before the witch’s reflexes could save her, golden tendrils ran over her pale skin, destroying every cell in her body and in the next second, her pale body turned even paler as it slowly wilted like a withered flower.
They watched in silence while the other pale witch tried to save her as she mixed potions in a hurry and gave them to her to consume, but even after all that, they watched as she died and dissipated to a pile of ash.
They were all astounded by what had just ensued right in front of them as they all stood frozen, eyes still fixated on the dead witch that the fragile human had so effortlessly laid to waste to a pile of ash, even Malika was stunned at what she had done.
She hadn’t meant to kill her, but then again, she didn’t feel the need to be remorseful for killing a dark witch, after all they had killed countless of innocent humans for their rituals and they were undoubtedly planning to kill her too.
Weirdly, she was pleased about her newfound concealed powers as she felt a surge of inexplicable energy coursing through her veins. No longer did she feel fear, rather she felt a sense of strength and confidence knowing she could take down the dark witches with just one touch, it made her wonder who she really was and what bloodline she was from for her to possess such exceptional powers.
For a long moment, stillness enveloped the area as they all stared at the pile of ash dumbfounded as if staring at the witch’s corpse would convey to them the answers they were looking for.
Their heads suddenly whipped towards her direction with flaring eyes, she almost flinched in fear but then she realized she was no longer the helpless and fragile human she once was, she now possessed a power that was unfathomable, even for her to discern.
The green eyed witch approached her behind the bars but the other witch seemed hesitant to move, rather she stood behind, watching with cautious eyes and alert countenance, at that moment she felt like a monster being caged as a result of its perilous nature.
"What are you?" The green eyed witch queried in a low breath, her voice a symphony of curiosity and a hint of heedfulness.
But then in the next second, every sound started turning muffled and the figures before her became blurry as a burning painful sensation streamed through her veins, her veins popped as she slumped down on the floor with gritted teeth in distress. The pain was unendurable she couldn’t stifle the agonizing scream that erupted from her lips, while she slowly lost consciousness as the world blurred.
