The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 174: Invasion II
Chapter 174: Invasion II
Rama grabbed his arm hysterically as she tried to pull him towards the direction of where Malika’s room was located, but he was too stiff, he didn’t even budge in the slightest. His unyielding action made her stomp her feet on the ground as she soon gave up.
"Malika will be fine." He simply said.
"How do you know that? She’s probably alone in her room, what if the dark witches attacks her?" She pointed out in a panicked state, her chest heaving with fear.
"Zamiel will get to her, he’s her mate after all, she’ll be the first person on his mind." Draco implied.
She scoffed, even though Zamiel was her mate, she still couldn’t bring herself to trust the prideful demon and put Malika’s fragile life in his protection, it was simply a risky stake she wasn’t willing to bargain on.
"And how do I trust he will protect her? Zamiel can’t be figured out, you can never know what’s going through his head. Besides that, what if he’s being held up by the witches and is unable to get to her in time?" She reasoned out, her eyes slowly filling up with unshed tears.
She wouldn’t be able to live with the heavy guilt and sorrow if something bad happened to Malika knowing she could save her, her death would break her heart in irreparable pieces, apart from Draco, she was the only person she truly cared about, her very own light in the cold, dark world. At that point, her heart twisted painfully inside her chest, a sense of helplessness and fear combined into a dreadful symphony.
Meanwhile, Draco breathed out a sigh, predatory alerted eyes screening the eerie vicinity while he thought it through.
"Please..." She said in a barely audible whisper, her voice cracked like the ancient walls as she gulped down the tears that were threatening to erupt from her eyes.
He smacked his lips before saying "Fine, let’s go." while pulling her along.
She breathed out a sigh of relief as she sniffed, her legs moved hastily as they walked down the corridor. Inwardly she prayed that Malika was alright and hiding in a secluded place, she dreaded walking into her room to meet her lifeless body, empty cold amber eyes open, while she laid sprawled on the floor, her blood slowly engulfing her.
Vigorously, she gave her head a hard shake, shoving the intrusive thought aside. She could no longer unsee the vivid image her mind had stimulated from fear, her body shivered uncontrollably as if she was trapped in the snow unclothed.
The distant screams and wails of terror emanating from the human servants in different areas of the castle, as the dark witches caused havoc and chaos stimulated the feeling of anxiety, one of those screams could belong to Malika.
As they continued moving down the hall, they encountered the corpse of a few human servants sprawled on the floor or leaned against the wall. They halted for a second as they examined the corpses which were undoubtedly laid to waste with the use of black magic.
Their skins were greyish pale and shrivelled, flesh sinking into their carved skull. The manner of their deaths made it appear as if their souls had been sucked out by a soul eating ghoul.
She gulped as they walked past the corpses, and eventually they came across more. As they emerged through the intersection of the hall, a whimsical grip on the hem of her dress made a startled yelp leave her lips as she jumped backward, colliding into Draco’s body.
With a protective grasp around her waist, he pushed her backward while scrutinizing what scared her. Their eyes narrowed to the ground to see an outstretched hand belonging to a dying female human as she leaned against the wall weakly, it was obviously the one that had grabbed her dress.
"He..lp me.." The woman said with a choked voice, despite her face being brutally deformed and pale, her forest green eyes remained unyielding to the black magic that was slowly killing her as her eyes retained its glow still.
Her red hair cascading down her dying figure had turned dull in comparison to its shiny texture as if the hex on her was slowly destroying every cell in her body.
As Rama observed the dying human, a pertrified gasp flared from her lips as her hands flew to her mouth in utter bewilderment and disbelief. "Reina?!" She called in a loud terrified voice, but no reply came. Sweat broke across her back and forehead as she watched her die an agonizing slow death.
A strained puff left her chapped, pale lips as she took her last breath, then she turned stiff. Rama’s stomach stirred when she realized she was dead.
The hall suddenly turned eerily quiet as she watched the light from her green eyes fade in a beat, leaving only empty soulless orbs as windows leading to an endless abyss, her once vibrant forest green eyes now dead and devoid of life.
Once a ravishing damsel was now nothing simply more than a hideous looking corpse, she wasn’t even able to identify her easily as a result of her deformed features. Her body turned numb as she realized that the same fate could easily befall sweet, innocent Malika.
Anyone but her, she’d give her life in exchange for hers, she just couldn’t bear to watch her die, it would be heart wrenching for her to watch. She would be trapped in an endless world of despair and grief.
"Let’s go." She heard Draco say, but no words could make sense in her head anymore as she thought of Malika, vivid images of Malika dying like Reina flashed right in front of her eyes.
Draco pulled her along, but with every step they took closer to Malika’s room, there was this inauspicious feeling that easily slipped through her defences to poison her mind with pessimism.
As they ascended down the stairs, they came across another set of human corpses sprawled on the stairs, but they weren’t only human corpses but also witches too, which she assumed were killed by the vampires, but it was only a few witch corpses.
And then, they came across a few corpses belonging to vampires, her blood rippled with fear, she could smell the air of darkness and death cramming the air, the acrid taste of dark magic that still lingered within the air as it emanated from the corpses made her body squirm in unease as her grip on Draco’s arm tightened.
"I’m scared..." She confessed as she looked up at him with teary eyes, but he was well aware she wasn’t scared for herself but for Malika.
"She’ll be fine, I promise." He said confidently even though he had no idea how she was fairing, but his words seemed to reassure her as she nodded and wiped the tears dropping on her cheeks.
As he surveyed the area swarming with corpses, his face twisted darkly with displeasure. The witches were fast infesting the castle and murdering too many of his people. He would have easily wiped them out if not that he had to stay by Rama’s side to protect her.
A blurry object flitted through the air, directed towards her in an inhumanely rapid pace, but it was impossible for her to notice it until she saw his hand outstretched in front of her face with an arrow in his hold, the arrow disintegrated into dust as a shadowy mist engulfed it.
She froze in position, realizing that it was aimed for her head and when she looked forward, a handful of witches were in front of them, their fates already sealed and their unraveled ends written, yet they were still prepared to attack.
They knew their ends yet, rather than staying idle as they awaited their gruesome end, they still fought back. Rama was no longer in doubt of her logic, they were evidently stalling them as a diversion for their real goal. They didn’t invade the castle to die, they invaded for a reason.
As they outstretched their hands towards them in unison, they chanted dark words in a mutter beneath their breaths, invoking dark forces from the air itself. Meanwhile before they could finish chanting whatever they were saying, Draco disappeared from his position and in a blink of an eye, the quantity of witch corpses elevated.
With rushed footsteps, he approached Rama and hauled her along towards Malika’s room. She tugged her gown up and rather than walking, she half ran, almost moving ahead of Draco but he made sure to pull her back in case of any attack.
"Be careful." He whispered to her in her agitated state, he was well aware of the kindled relationship between her and Malika, he knew the weight of pain she would drown in if something happened to her and he hoped inwardly the girl was alright, he wouldn’t want anything to sour her mood.
They finally arrived at Malika’s room and rather than her being relieved, he could hear her heart pace thump loudly against her ribcage in tension.
He quickly shot the door open and the sight before them left her wide eyed with shock.
