The Devil's Warrior Queen
Chapter 149: Saviour

Chapter 149: Saviour

Engulfed with constant fear, disarray and hopelessness, yet somehow a flicker of hope still remained in her heart as she employed focused on how to survive rather than the unfortunate incident she was going through.

Rather than thinking of her gruesome plight, she pushed through as she conveyed focus, in physical and both mental strength in the heart wrenching machinations designed to serve her a remarkable death, but little did her captor know that she was not one born to die so easily, she was born to persevere through the fiercest of flames and the tempest of seas.

Her wits and physical training were her greatest allies in that treacherous entrapment where her life was hanging on a thin thread.

As she attentively solved the riddle and placed the colored jewel on the right statue, sweat dripped on her palm as she could feel the taste of freedom resting on her tongue, every inhale and exhale she took was heaved with tension.

The gloomy air around her made goosebumps manifest on her skin as she carefully and attentively placed the stones. Her black hair had stuck to her scalp from sweat and blood. She had put her sweat, tears and blood into trying to escape. She prayed inwardly that the door would be her door to breakthrough, the exit.

She had just two more statues to figure out and as she racked her brain on the riddle set out for her to solve, the grotesque statues occupying the four corners of the room immediately opened their stone carved mouths with a slight rumble.

Pausing with her heart racing in her chest, she knew whatever was happening wasn’t good. As she looked, she saw the dull eyes of the statues turn red and before she could process what was transpiring, a poisonous spike shot out of one of the statue’s mouths.

She evaded it easily, but then, another one joined in and as the seconds escalated into minutes, more of their grotesque statues joined in spitting the poisonous spikes.

She was certain she had placed the other jewels on the right statues, she reasoned she might have crossed the time limit to place the right jewels in it’s rightful place and now, it was time for her end.

Her body trembled in fear, but she continued evading the spikes, until they intensified in numbers and with the speed they were being shot, she knew she could no longer evade them and it would be only a matter of time before she would be pierced to death.

She rushed back to the door where she had come from, but it was locked shut. She groaned, tears brimming in her eyes as she braced herself for the incoming cold hands of death.

Her head leaned back on the door wearily, her shoulders dropped in hopelessness as she let out a drained sigh, depleted of energy. She could see the spikes cutting through thin air with a whoosh as they shot out of the statue’s mouth. Bracing herself for the unbearable pain, she closed her eyes tightly.

But then, as she closed her eyes, she sensed an imposing presence looming above her like a sinister shield, cocooning herself between the door and his figure like a protective barrier.

Lost in confusion, she opened her eyes with a gasp, her heart hanging in her throat as she looked at the darkness before her. She suddenly forgot about her predicament as she stared into his blazing eyes.

The man she had been waiting for was finally in front of her, but then a sense of anger overwhelmed her. He was the sole reason she was in that predicament, because of him.

Wait! The spikes! Her inner voice rang as she stared at his face twisted with pain. She could hear the squelching sound of the spikes piercing into his back. Her anger dissipated into mist as horror and concern flooded her eyes.

Even as the unending spikes plunged into his back, he never budged nor did he move an inch from position, making sure not a single spike would graze her skin.

"Stop!!! Are you crazy!!" She screamed hysterically as she heard the whooshing sounds of the spikes flying and the squelching sound of his flesh being pierced relentlessly.

"I’m alright." He said in assurance, his crimson ember eyes retaining a symphony of soft tender gaze, yet a flicker of fury was hidden beneath his burning orbs.

Aware of the dangerous machinations built in the temple, he knew the statues would stop spitting out poisonous spikes after ten minutes, during the few seconds before reset, he would have the opening to destroy them, but till then, he would endure the poisonous spikes plunging into his flesh.

Rama’s eyes narrowed to the blood dripping from his back and she lost all reason and caution, as her skin pricked with uneasiness, unable to endure the pain he was undoubtedly going through.

The spikes relentlessly pelted him, leaving fiery welts and searing wounds on his skin, yet he pressed on with a devilish determination.

Mindlessly, she hugged him, only for the poisonous spikes to shoot out of his back to graze her small hands.

Draco reflexively grasped her hand away from his back, putting her in the safety of his body as a shield.

She gasped in agony as the sinister, poisonous spike pierced her delicate skin. The poison seeped through her veins, rendering her vision hazy and her limbs weak.

As she reeled on the edge of unconsciousness, her ethereal eyes caught a glimpse of her unlikely savior, the devil’s son, his raven black hair cascading like a waterfall of darkness.

With a sweeping gesture, he harnessed his infernal powers, conjuring scorching flames that danced around his fingers as they engulfed his hand, she could feel the fiery intensity of the heat from where she was.

The flames engulfed the statues. Once menacing, were now crumbling to ash. The poison spewing spikes were forever silenced in a fiery maelstrom.

As Rama’s vision darkened and her consciousness slipped away, she felt herself being nuzzled against the comforting hold of a strong warm body.

{Back At The Crimson Moon Carnival}

Malika was having so much fun at the carnival, that she had forgotten about the disappearance of Rama, until after a short moment of her absence, only then did she realize Rama had vanished from her sight.

Her lips quivered in fear, her legs wobbling beneath her skirt as she scrutinized the crowded square with her humane eyes.

She pressed her brain to think harder about where Rama might have gone to, then she finally realized she saw her going towards the direction of the forest, but she wasn’t paying attention to what she had said, most importantly she wondered what Rama was doing in the forest.

Gulping heavily, she set for the forest. The air was chilly and murky, unlike the warm, amusing one emitted from the carnival. Her breath came out in shaky gasps, the swirling fog conveyed a haunting sense which only helped to intensify her fear.

Amidst her fear, the concern in her heart for Rama surpassed it, giving her the courage to look for her even while she was terrified. She knew Rama had been gone for long and the fact that she might have been in danger only unnerved her more.

The hooting of the ominous owls in the dark vicinity and the rustling of leaves sent a wave of chill surging down her spine, her heart taking on an incredulous pace as she looked around, head whipping back and forth.

"Rama?!" She called loudly as she walked around, while making sure she was familiar with the path she was taking in case she had to go back.

As she moved, she saw a dark figure emerging from behind a tree. Her heart raced harder when she saw his glowing emerald eyes in the dark, his figure slowly coming to the dim light cast on him from the crimson moon.

Her legs shifted back in trepidation, her heart pounding in her ears when she saw his lips split open into a devious grin. She was away from the castle, away from protection and out in the open, vulnerable to his sinister intents, her legs wobbled and her body quivered uncontrollably.

"S-Stay away from me!" She yelled, tears already brimming her golden eyes at the realization that she had walked right into his trap.

"Don’t be afraid sweet child, I can help you find what you’re looking for." He drawled with an ominous intensity hanging on his lips.

"N-No" She forced out amidst quivering lips as she took faltering steps back.

But then, he started walking forward toward her. Her throat caught in her mouth as she veered around and with wild, fear-stricken eyes, she raced through the forest. Her heartbeat echoed like a drum of impending doom

Behind her the malevolent demon pursued, seeking to devour her untainted soul, a figure that seemed to emerge from the very shadows itself.

"Run as much as you want, I love a nice hunt anyway." His voice slithered darkly across the dark air towards her, fear almost making her limbs freeze, but she managed to force them to move.

Desperation drove her deeper into the depths of the wood, but when she ran back towards the path she took, her breath hitched. The forest once familiar had turned into a labyrinth of confusion.

Oblivious to her, the demon’s sinister powers of illusions had entrapped her, creating a maze of diverging paths in the forest, defying all logic she held. Her racing heart mirrored the chaos around her.

Her mind reeling with disarray, trepidation and anxiety about which path to take. She hesitated, haunted by the realization itself that the forest had conspired against her. She clung to the faint hope of finding the true path amidst the illusionary trails.

The demon’s sinister laughter echoed through the trees, urging her to make a choice while he drew ever nearer. Biting down on her lower lip nervously, with feet heavy with fear, she hesitantly took a path, praying inwardly it was the right one.
