The Devil's Warrior Queen -
Chapter 116: Wedding Day
Chapter 116: Wedding Day
As the day to her wedding neared, her princess treatment intensified, she had extra maids taking care of her needs day and night, soaking her skin in rich, scented oils, her raven black hair equally soaked in exquisite almond oil in preparation for the wedding or presumably, the wedding night. The thought of consummating with Damien made her cringe.
Her golden skin and raven black hair glowed flawlessly, leaving her to ravish more than she would have fathomed. The maids just couldn’t understand when they were doing a bit too much, almost choking her in scented oils and all.
Meanwhile, Damien’s mother had visited once or twice, trying to teach her etiquettes in a bid to mold her into the ways of night creatures, to make her fit into a world of desolate darkness ruled by the night creatures.
As if that wasn’t annoying enough, she tried lighting up her beautiful golden skin, to turn it as pale as a night creature’s with a weird ointment she claimed she purchased from a renowned merchant.
With everything overwhelming her, from the wedding to Draco and her enigmatic fate, her defiance worsened. Luckily, after so much disagreement and bad blood between Damien’s mother and her, the woman didn’t visit again, not that she would have loved to see her face anyway.
Days passed and the seven days to her wedding day slowly dwindled until it was one day left. The wedding ceremony was supposed to commence in the castle halls at nighttime, so they would leave for the castle early in the morning to get prepared, meanwhile she was nothing close to being prepared.
The night to the wedding was an unsettling night for her, she couldn’t sleep without that uneasy lump clogging inside her throat as she realized she would wake up to an inauspicious day, whilst the night would be an enigmatic one.
She stared out into the window thoughtlessly, watching the silver moon above the forest as it’s dim light basked the land.
After much pacing around back and forth in her chambers while thoughts resonated deeply in her head, she resorted to going to bed, the last thing she wanted was falling asleep on the way to the castle or while she was being prepared for the wedding and looking awful after the maids had spent days dolling her up.
She finally concluded that Draco had finally forgotten about her, maybe, just maybe, as she hadn’t gotten a single glance of him during those two weeks after their encounter in the forest, still she wasn’t relaxed, she could only get ready for the wedding, but she was in no control or knowledge of what would transpire which terrified her the most.
Her mind was still in chaos even as she crawled into the bed, getting ready to sleep and wake up to another suspense filled day, but it would be more unnerving than the last, more cynical and more hopeless.
As she settled into bed, snuggling into the warmth of the quilt, a knock on the door disrupted hee, making her shoot her eyes open as she clambered out of bed, wondering who the hell it was at that time of the night.
She hauled her feet toward the door before opening it to meet lord Damien standing in front of her, a serious countenance masking his face, yet a hint of caution shrouded his figure.
"Damien, what are you doing here?" She queried, slightly prudent yet curious.
"I have something important to discuss with you, if you don’t mind, my lady." He said courteously.
She observed him for a moment before nodding with a small smile as she said "Sure." opening the door wider to let him in.
He walked into the chamber, pacing forward with a few steps before halting as he proceeded to speak.
"What do you want to discuss? Is everything alright?" She queried, eagerly waiting for the words to roll off his lips, a part of her dreaded it was related to Draco, but the look surfacing his crimson eyes spoke differently, a hint of uncertainty clouded his eyes.
"My dearest." He began, his voice as smooth as silk. "Tomorrow as we unite, there is a sacred ritual we must undertake." He continued, leaving her slightly fazed on what the ritual they had to undertake was as if he read her mind, he replied.
"The bond bite." He said.
The words felt like a heavy lump of wood stuck in her throat, it felt as though she couldn’t breathe as soon as the words rolled off his lips.
"T-The bond bite?" She almost screamed.
From what he had shared with her on the knowledge of bond bites, it would automatically turn one into a vampire, a creature she had reviled. Although, she was aware of getting turned into one if the marriage held successfully, but still, she hadn’t thought about it too much neither had she expected it to be that soon.
"Fret not, the bond bite doesn’t turn you into a vampire, it’s only a phase for the transformation as it bonds you to your marker. You have to get rid of your physical form to be reborn as a vampire after having the bond bite." Lord Damien explained, but still she felt rather unready to be bonded to him, to have her soul merge as one with him.
It didn’t sound right but she knew it was the only way, she would get her freedom from the dark shackles of Draco’s sinister allure and tapestry of seduction. She wasn’t supposed to be getting seduced by her enemy in the first place, it was supposed to be lord Damien, not Draco, her rival.
"So I won’t turn if you mark me with the bond bite?" She queried in assurance.
"Yes, my love. You’ll have as much time as you want to think about the transformation. Through this act, our souls shall entertwine, forging an unbreakable connection. It is a bond that goes beyond the realm of mortality, beyond life and death as our souls merge as one." He said as he stared deep into her eyes with an unwavering gaze, his voice like hypnotizing smooth velvet rolling off his lips as he caressed her cheeks with his cold fingers.
It came as no shock to her that he seemed to have fallen deeply in love with her, enough to be certain to bond her to himself.
After all, throughout the time they had spent together, the feelings he held for her intensified, meanwhile she couldn’t say the same for herself, her heart still felt as dead as it was since the day he had confessed which left her with guilt weighing on her.
"Rama." He called, noticing her lost gaze.
"Yes." She jerked her head up to look at him.
"The bond bite. You’ll have to either accept or reject." He said calmly, as if bracing himself for any response from her, but at least he wasn’t being forceful, at least he had given her a choice to make.
Silence hung in the air as she gulped hard, while Damien waited for her reply with bated breath. Her mind was in chaos, the decision she had to make felt like an enormous rock on her shoulder pulling her deeper into the darkest depths of the ocean.
She had to make the right decision and take charge of shaping her own future like the witch diviner had said, and the right choice to her was the words that rolled off her lips, even though it didn’t feel right as her heart yearned for an enigmatic darkness, one she was lost in.
"I accept." She breathed out, her voice a faint whisper but it was loud enough for a creature as he to hear. A small, sheepish, almost devilish smile broke through his lips as she responded.
His love for her was undeniable, and he believed that this bond bite would seal their destinies together. He pressed his lips to her neck, his fangs gently piercing her skin. Her body trembled unnervingly, but she didn’t oppose even if her instincts screamed at her.
As her blood flowed into his mouth, he felt a surge of anticipation, expecting their connection to solidify on every level. Physically, he could feel their bond forming, drawing them closer. Emotionally, he sensed a rush of emotions - his love, devotion, and desire to protect her. Mentally, he opened his thoughts to merge with hers, intertwining their consciousness.
But something was amiss. The connection, though strong, felt incomplete. His eyes, usually filled with certainty, clouded with confusion. Unbeknownst to him, her heart had already been claimed by an alluring darkness, a secret she had kept hidden.
As he pulled away, he searched her eyes for the expected affirmation of their newly formed bond. Instead, he saw a distant look, a glimmer of something he couldn’t quite comprehend.
The bond bite hadn’t worked as he had hoped, leaving him with a gnawing sense of unease and the painful realization that her heart was not yet his.
But yet, he didn’t say anything, at least it was enough to trick Draco into believing he had marked her with the bond bite for the meantime, also she wasn’t able to realize whether or not it had worked, afterwards he would figure out how to fully win her heart after the wedding.
Meanwhile, Rama was feeling slightly weird, other than the painful burn of his fangs on her skin, she felt a strange sensation course through her body like a spark, but then it disappeared, leaving her confused as she felt no extraordinary feelings whatsoever.
He had finally marked her, so her problems were officially over with Draco and his devious shenanigans, or so she thought.
