Chapter 103: It’s a shame I wouldn’t witness that firsthand.

"Ouch." Fil hissed as she put on ointment on her lips, eyes on the hand mirror in front of her. After returning to the firm, she and Elise parted because she wanted to go to the clinic.

"That’s not something you will get accidentally."

Fil glanced at the nurse in the clinic, offering a meek smile to her.

"Anyway, I’ll have to leave you for a moment. You’re not hurt anywhere else, are you?" asked the nurse, only to see Fil shake her head. "Alright then. Close the door once you leave."

"Okay." Fil pursed her lips, watching the nurse leave the clinic for some errand. A shallow breath slipped past her nostrils, raising the hand mirror in front of her again.

She pondered for a moment, taking out her phone to call someone. It wasn’t like Fil went to the clinic just because she was hurt. Being raised on a farm, Fil got used to getting minor scratches or bruises. There was only one reason she came in here.

"Anton?" she called quietly when the line connected.

"Ayo, Fil! What’s up?" Anton, on the other end of the line, greeted her cheerfully. "Tomorrow, don’t forget. My assistant will pick you up, right?"

"Uhm..." Fil hummed a tune, making Anton furrow his brows.

For some reason, hearing her hesitant hum made Anton’s heart thud nervously. "You’re not canceling, are you? Fil, please don’t do this to me."

"No, it’s not like that," Fil denied somberly. "It’s just that... I don’t know how to say it."

Anton, who was reclining leisurely on the couch with a guitar over him, raised his brows. He picked up the guitar and placed it on the coffee table, sitting up with his arm on his leg.

"What’s going on?" he inquired, this time more seriously. "If you’re not canceling, then why do you sound like you have to cancel, anyway?"

"I have a little accident."

"What?" Anton gasped. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt? Where are you?"

"It’s not that kind of accident." Fil rolled her eyes. "I’m in the office clinic, so I’m fine."

The lines on Anton’s forehead deepened, staying quiet. Silence reigned in the line for the next thirty seconds.

"Can your makeup artist cover up a swollen cheek?"

"Huh?"

"And a cut in the lips?"

"A swollen cheek and a cut on the lips?" Anton glanced at his phone, confused. "How bad is it? Let me see."

Fil drew a deep breath, smiling on the other end of the line. After telling him to wait for a moment, she took a close-up photo of her cheek and lips. Though she made sure there was a glimpse of the background, to let him know she was in the clinic. After that quick yet meticulous act, she sent it to him without a second hesitation.

Anton felt his phone vibrate, peeling the phone from his ear. The second he saw the photos she sent him, he frowned.

"Fil, did you get into a fight?" he asked in a grim tone.

"It was an accident."

"You don’t get that in an accident. You get that if you get punched."

"I hit my face because I wasn’t looking while walking," she excused, only to hear silence in the line. She sighed, knowing Anton didn’t believe her. "Fine. I didn’t get it because I wasn’t looking in my way."

"Who did it to you?" he queried. "A client? Or did you get into a heated fight with one of your officemates?"

"Do you think I’m the type to confront people?"

"After punishing me, I think you can be scary," he argued in a knowing tone. "If it’s not an officemate, who did you fight?"

"I didn’t fight, okay?" Fil rolled her eyes, smacking her lips to make him wait. "I bumped into Valerie."

"What?"

Fil shrugged, even though he couldn’t see her. "She wanted to talk, so we did. Who would have thought talking is not only something she’s good at? She thinks I’m punishing her brother and making his life miserable."

"That good-for-nothing brat!" Anton ground his teeth, knowing Valerie was capable of doing that.

Valerie never once hid her dislike toward Fil. She would even humiliate Fil in front of people. Although Anton hadn’t seen everything, he had seen enough of how Valerie treated his future sister-in-law. To be fair, Anton always felt sorry for Fil whenever he would witness such disrespect; it made him angry in a way. But he knew he wasn’t in the right position to say anything except tell Vincent to control his little sister.

Perhaps it made him even angrier because it would affect him as well. And the fact he felt dismissed by the people he called friends fueled his anger. Either way, this was way out of line.

"So?" after the prolonged silence, Fil spoke again. "Can this be covered up? Or should I help you find a replacement?"

"We already did the reading and went through the storyline." Anton sighed heavily, ruffling his hair in irritation. "Put some ointment and ice on the cheek. The swelling might ease a little. Did you take any medicines?"

"I’m in the clinic, so the nurse gave me some. Ointments and icepack too."

"I see." Anton rocked his head, sighing for the second time. "She hit you?"

"Mhm."

"Did you slap her back?"

"Should I have done that?"

"You should’ve asked her to come with you and drove in the city just like what you did to me!" Anton scolded, a bit frustrated he couldn’t do anything anymore. "You don’t have problems being straightforward with me, but you just let her bully you like that."

Fil pursed her lips and smiled a bit. He might’ve sounded annoyed, but she could feel the genuine sincerity from him. It wasn’t like she forgave Anton completely, but she believed he could be redeemed... after teaching him a lesson, of course.

"Valerie is a kid, Anton," she remarked gently. "Would she even listen to me when she already believed I was making her brother’s life hard?"

"Tch."

"Anyway, I’ll update you once the swelling eased."

"Fine." Anton huffed faintly. "Tell me if there’s anything else you need. And about that kid, I’ll deal with her."

"Anton."

"If not her, then her brother," he stressed, knowing she would try to stop him. "Don’t worry. I’m not doing it because of you, but because they almost messed up with my schedule. Keep me posted and rest! I don’t want you to catch a fever."

With that being said, Anton hung up on her. He looked at his phone, eyes glinting.

"That damn Vincent," he grumbled, grabbing his jacket before storming out of his studio. "His little sister is out of control!"

Meanwhile, Fil slowly put her phone down. The side of her lips curled up, reclining a little with her hand on the mattress. Now she didn’t have to do anything. She believed Anton would do the rest for her.

"That good-for-nothing brat," she smirked. "She should say goodbye to the car she was waiting for from her brother and goodbye to Marcus, who kindly gives her free rides."

A chuckle slipped past Fil. "It’s a shame I wouldn’t witness that firsthand."
