Chapter 398: Has He Found His Mate?

The old man nodded, "Only divine power can make a difference at this point. I’ve witnessed a few individuals heal through it."

"In that case, there’s no issue. I possess divine power as well."

"You possess divine power too?" Erich was surprised.

She nodded with eagerness, "King Drayce informed me that, like him, I possess both the power of darkness and the divine power of light."

Erich gazed at her with a hint of disbelief and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small pouch and emptied it into his hand, revealing a tiny, round bead-like substance.

"What is this?" she inquired.

"This is the medicine that once saved King Drayce’s knight from the brink of death. This medication used to contain divine power, but over time, it has waned, possibly because it was in the possession of a human rather than a supernatural being. I’ve examined its ingredients, but I could only identify a few. The rest can only be recognized and harnessed by witches. I’ll provide you with a list of the ingredients I’ve managed to identify, but you’ll have to uncover the others on your own. I believe that, as a witch, it shouldn’t be too challenging for you. Once you’ve prepared these pills, all you’ll need to do is infuse them with your divine power. Without divine power, the pill is ineffective, and without all the required ingredients, the divine power is useless. We need both, as well as perfectly crafted pills."

A glimmer of hope sparkled in her eyes. "Thank you so much, Master. This saves me a lot of time."

"I’m unsure of the creator of this pill, or I would have certainly sought their assistance. From what I understand, neither Martha nor Queen Seren could have made it, as it requires a witch with divine power. Martha is an ordinary witch, and Queen Seren is not a witch."

"I understand," she replied, "I believe I know who might have created it."

"Who?"

"King Drayce’s mother. She is the Queen of witches and possesses divine power."

"Then perhaps you can seek their help."

"I can’t trouble them, and I’ve heard they’ve journeyed to the secret realm of supernaturals, a place inaccessible to anyone. Instead of wasting time to find them, I’ll prepare this medicine on my own."

Erich agreed and she inquired, "How is His Majesty faring?"

"There has been a slight improvement, but I can’t predict when he’ll return to his usual state," Erich admitted with a sense of helplessness.

"Based on my intuition, it might be around the night of the full moon. That’s when the person who placed the curse on the King will be at their most powerful, and the black magic they employed will have a significant impact on His Majesty’s condition," Oriana suggested.

Erich sighed, his concern evident. "Please don’t put yourself in any danger."

"I’ll be fine," she assured him with a reassuring smile. "I have some assistance at my disposal now. I won’t be alone."

Erich raised an eyebrow, prompting Oriana to continue, "What if I told you it’s a thousand-year-old, exceptionally knowledgeable, helpful, and powerful elf?"

"After all I’ve witnessed in the past half-year, I’m inclined to trust anything you say," Erich replied. "Everything is fine as long as you can treat your grandfather."

After Erich departed, Oriana made her way to the study in her mansion. She instructed her servants not to disturb her, except for Ana if it was truly urgent.

Using her magical abilities, she conjured a pile of books onto the table. Among them was the black magic book she had recently acquired from Zaria and only one about divine beasts given to her by Yorian.

After careful consideration, she concluded, ’There are numerous books on black magic and only one on divine beasts. I’ll start with this one, as everything seems to be interconnected with that brat being a Dragon.’

Oriana delved deeper into her reading, absorbing information about the most powerful divine beast to exist on Earth: the Dragon.

Dragons were described as the most potent beings with the purest form of divine blood. She continued to explore their remarkable abilities and various powers that they possessed. As she delved further into the text, she encountered the next topic: "Mate – A Dragon’s Mate."

Oriana couldn’t help but be intrigued. The information stated that Dragons could have only one mate throughout their entire lifespan and were wholly devoted to that one individual. They would go to great lengths to protect their mate and obediently follow their lead. In a profound bond, the soul of a Dragon was inexplicably connected to that of their mate. The text went on to explain that Dragons could not continue living if they lost their mate, as the connection between them was so profound.

’Mate? It’s almost like having a spouse. So, despite their extended lifespan, they can only love one person,’ her thoughts meandered towards Arlan. ’If a Dragon can have only one woman in their life and can only love her, I wonder if he has found his mate or is still searching for her. This could be another reason why he wants to eliminate his betrothed – he can’t accept her as his wife and needs to save himself for his mate. This might explain why he wishes to kill me. If the King compels him to marry me, he might lose face in front of his mate. The beast inside him will never allow him to accept another woman except for his mate.’

She sighed helplessly as she tried to understand Arlan’s reasoning of wanting to kill her. ’So he’s torn between fulfilling his father’s wish to become the next king and reserving himself for his mate. What a dilemma for this beast. I need to unearth the truth about the past swiftly and spare him from marrying me. The King mentioned planning our wedding within a month. I must expedite my efforts and stop this wedding.’

She continued to read further about how the bond is form between the Dragon and his mate. ’Three stages of bond formation’ Oriana read it all and could understand how meaningful and strong this bond was.

’I sure cannot come between a Dragon and his mate.’ She then put the book aside, ’Who even wants to come between them and be a homewrecker? I would rather run away and live my life as a wanderer herbalist, treating poor people.’
