Chapter 240: Apparently, we can’t have aneurysm inside an illusionary world, so I’ll be okay

The hand of God stretched toward me, and I watched in horror and fascination as the dark third eye opened.

Ugh—this nauseating sensation again. I found myself stumbled forward and almost face-to-face with a deep, dark void before a strong grip pulled me back.

"Oh, thank yo—" I looked back and my voice got stuck in my throat, because the kid wasn’t a kid anymore!

Still in a black suit—that meticulous, made-to-fit three-piece—and a red tie that was in the same color as his eyes, the Demon God was now a full-grown adult. Not just an adult, but looking like a middle-aged man; a very handsome one, in case you’re curious, just like what I had thought how the kid would grow up. And now that I was closer, I could see that his pale skin had patterns on them, almost like an invisible tattoo.

Ah, so that was the alpha seed.

"Umm..."

"What?"

If there was one thing that did not change from him, it was the blood-red eyes; the cheekiness that was weirdly mixed with exasperation. "You’re not a kid anymore?"

"This is the world of illusion," he shrugged. "I could look however I liked."

Huh...then this must be the way he looked originally, huh? Not bad, Lord An’Hyang. I gave an appreciative nod and started to look around because he said this was an illusionary world.

We were actually standing on a bridge, where I almost fell from. In front of us, at the end of the bridge, was a castle gate, and furthermore, of course, was a castle. Before I could even ask what this place was, the no-longer-kid God had already walked forward, and I had to catch up to him.

"Why are you bringing me here?"

"Have you thought about what it feels like to have everyone relying on you?" he gave me a quiz instead of answering my question. "When they starve, they expect to have you feed them; when they’re sick, they expect you to cure them. You give them knowledge, comprehension, teach you skills to survive, but instead of using that to evolve their life, they demand more and more from you."

"That’s...exhausting," I muttered.

Lord An’Hyang smiled at my answer. "It is, isn’t it? That’s what happened to the Primordial One—ah, we aren’t supposed to speak the name, so just use that, okay?"

I nodded at his warning, and he continued. "This world was once a beautiful place, and then it became a chaotic place. It was like pouring water into a dry basin—it was nice at first, until it became stagnant," he sighed, and we had to pause when the gate in front of us swung open.

"The Primordial One created this world to see a thriving life; the joy and delight, the pain and misery—everything is beautiful in the One’s eyes. But at that time, the world’s system wasn’t like it was now; the world phenomena, even the cycle of life and death was directly under the Primordial One’s rule," he continued while crossing the gate’s threshold, which swung back to close on its own. "And it’s exhausting."

Well...it must have been. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to fathom the thought of controlling the whole world with this tiny mind of mine, but I used to question whether or not God could hear my prayer, and thought that He probably did not because well...I was still sick and getting sicker. So I thought perhaps God was just busy, and had other priorities. Perhaps I hadn’t done enough good things to be God’s priority, who knows—I was just trying to console myself.

"It’s even more exhausting when they started to get angry, saying that the God abandoned them for not fulfilling their increasing demand," Lord An’Hyang let out a bitter smile, and I felt like the already dim place became even darker. "And so, the Primordial One destroyed the world."

...huh?!

Again, I almost stumbled, this time for the shock I received. He grabbed my arm again, looking at me while shaking his head as if I was a trouble child. Well, excuse me for having a whack balance!

"Ugh—did you say...destroyed the world?"

The red eyes glanced at me; it was deep and filled with too many emotions for me to decipher. "When One created the world, the world is the One. A corrupted world corrupts the creator," he cryptically said, looking forward again as we entered the garden.

Because it was dark, it felt like we were walking at night. There were glowing bugs flying around like fairies, and I reached up to let one of them land on my finger. "And...what did you do?" I asked, staring at the little light pulsing in front of me.

"We fought the wrath, the sadness. Us three and the guardians," there was a deep pain in his strained voice, as the red eyes stared at the fleeting little lights. "In the end, even though we managed to stop everything, the Primordial One decided to withdraw from the world."

Ah...so that was the reason. In the book, there was no reason for the disappearance, and the whole thing about creation and the ancient period was only mentioned briefly. But I guessed, talking about how the creator of your world destroyed it was not in anyone’s best interest, so...

But what this history class had to do with my question?

"The Primordial One let us lead the world and tap into all the power left to create the world system you enjoy today," we arrived in front of the double door, and Lord An’Hyang pushed it open. "But if the Creator of the world vanished completely, then the world itself would vanish, so a drop of the Primordial One’s essence fell to the world."

As he said that, my eyes caught the big hall we ended up in after entering the Castle. There, in the middle of the great hall, was the statue of three people reaching up toward the bud of a single black flower.

And suddenly, my heart jolted. With every step I took closer to the pedestal supporting the statuary, the beat increased inside my chest. I knew...I knew that flower. Even though it was yet a flower right now.

"The Primordial Seed."

He turned around to look at me and nodded in affirmation. "Yes, the Primordial Seed. The one in your possession," he stepped forward to stand in front of me and touched my solar plexus. "The one taking root inside your soul space."

"...what?!"

My eyes widened at that unexpected information, but my mind instantly wired toward the dark space containing the pulsing cocoon I had visited before, and reflexively, my hand flew to touch the middle of my torso.

"The Primordial One could not disappear, but resting inside a self-made jail is a different thing,"

"You mean..." I looked up at the red eyes and blinking in confusion. "The jail is inside...me? But what about that...seed?"

He turned his head to look at the flower and explained with a subtle smile. "The seed contained the body, but it was pretty much lifeless. It could not maintain a soul, unfortunately," he looked back at me. "And the soul, meanwhile, could only contained inside a soul space that was...unique."

I took a deep breath and recalled what Natha said to me. "A soul that only exists one in the universe?"

"Only one," he confirmed, looking at me deeply with an apologetic gaze. "But when that one soul was born, the sheer force of letting the trace of Primordial One inside was enough to break the soul into two pieces."

At that time, I felt like losing the strength in my legs and just decided to crouch down in front of the pedestal and the Demon God—I couldn’t care less how pathetic I looked then. It was just exhausting, you know, after all that trial I had to endure.

"The broken soul, however, could not simply be put into a different body," the Demon God continued his explanation while I was having a meltdown, "So we have to look for a body with a similar genetic construction, however far away, however much we had to jump between space and time."

He crouched in front of me, patting my head as if it could help. Well, it indeed helped, as the nauseating feeling subsided a bit and I could speak again. "Is...is that mean...my grandmother being sent there was..."

"Yes, it was Sarte’s doing, to make sure you were born and received the other piece," he nodded, still patting my head gently.

I still had no idea how to think about this though, that my existence was being made this way, to cater for...for a God.

"Without a proper vessel, the Primordial One might cease to exist, and the world would disappear if that were to happen. And...we have no idea when another unique soul would come along, and whether the seed would hold on."

At his words, I suddenly recalled how...childish the seed’s voice was. Despite—supposedly—being an ancient being who created everything, the voice felt very much like a child, and the words it uttered to me became shorter and shorter, as if...as if it was de-aging.

Oh, Mother...

I clasped my hands over my mouth, and Lord An’Hyang let out a sigh again. Ah, at least he wasn’t in a kid form this time, so it wasn’t so weird anymore. In the end, he stopped crouching and just full-on sat on the floor, looking up at the black flower.

"You know, you are truly a miracle," he said. "Not just about your soul, but the fact that you have the perfect genetic construction."

I turned to look at him with confusion, and he chuckled. "Do you know how the seed could be born again?" he threw another quiz, and I did not bother to shake my head this time. "It needs the essence of all three races; human, demon, and the child of nature."

My lips parted and my hands fell down as he continued. "And it had to be the essence of the highest quality, because the body needs to withstand the soul."

"A pure-blooded demon..." I muttered reflexively.

"A pure blooded-demon," he nodded, and pointed at my chest again. "And a union between a child of nature’s royalty and the most devoted priest of light."

...what? What priest? Was he talking about Valmeier’s—

"You should look into it yourself, we have no time for that kind of detail," he shook his head before I could question him about it, which got me to bite my lips.

I took a deep breath and exhaled through my mouth to calm myself, looking at the patterned floor. At that time, something suddenly clicked in my mind and carefully, I asked the Demon God.

"So...so you’re saying it’s a miracle because I already have the essence of two races...right?" I asked, and after seeing him nod, I continued. "Then...what would happen if I was only a druid or only a human?"

He raised his brow, and then nonchalantly answered. "It has to be three essences, so...whatever it takes to get those three inside you."

...goodness gracious!
