Chapter 82: My Words Are Absolute
Aryx blinked a few times, analyzing what he heard from the man.
’Dormant?’ He thought.
"What are you talking about?" He asked, confusion present on his face.
"Your Legacy is not as simple as you think it is," Zeno replied.
Then he raised his hand, and the gauntlets on his arms vanished before a scythe appeared above him. He swirled it at his side to deflect an invisible wind blade hurled in his direction.
"I guess even the information about it had never been passed down. You see, most of the beings who had no idea what their Legacy was needed help to awaken their unique abilities, and most of them were called Dormant Legacy," he said.
"Help? What kind of help?" Aryx replied.
His line of thought became more complicated the more he listened to the silver-haired man.
"You just need a certain being to awaken it, and it happens that you have one right now," Zeno uttered.
"So, let’s begin," he added.
Then he tossed Kizeler somewhere at his side and hung the scythe on his shoulder before walking towards the man. The next second, he glanced at the wolf glaring at him from afar and smiled.
"Please wait for a minute; I’ll give you a worthy opponent," he said, teasing the monster.
Meanwhile, as Aryx stared at the person, he couldn’t help but feel shivers.
’Grim Reaper?’ He thought.
Afterward, Zeno halted his steps upon reaching a meter away from him.
"Stand up and close your eyes; don’t open them without me telling you," he uttered.
Like he was told, Aryx stood up and closed his eyes. He was still confused, but this choice was better than dying unable to do a thing.
As soon as Zeno saw that the man had obeyed his orders, he stepped forward and positioned himself behind him. Then he put his free palm on the man’s back and inhaled a deep breath.
The next second, the area around them started to vibrate, and the moment Zeno pulled away his hand, a white chain connecting from his palm to Aryx’s back appeared.
"Damn, that’s thick!" Zeno exclaimed as he saw the thickness of the chains.
"This will be painful; grit your teeth and don’t open your eyes, no matter what," he added.
The jet-black scythe turned into a dice as soon as he let go of it. He held the chain with his other hand, then pulled it one more time, and as soon as the chain didn’t budge, he began to increase his grip with the intention of shattering the chain.
Aryx screamed, and he even fell to the ground, rolling due to the extreme pain he was currently experiencing. It was not coming from his body or any internal organs, yet he felt like something was getting torn apart inside of him.
’It’s almost done,’ Zeno thought upon seeing that cracks started to appear in the particles of the chain.
He ignored the man’s scream and focused on the task. Then, several seconds later, a blinding light illuminated the area as the chain shattered into pieces.
Along with it, Aryx stood up with a newfound power within himself. The excruciating pain he was suffering awhile ago vanished like it never happened.
"I can feel it, my Legacy!" He uttered.
Without further ado, he dashed towards the ivory gale wolf; he didn’t even bother himself to pick up his weapon. But as he went closer, the monster vanished without any sound, and a barrage of wind blades came at him from above.
Aryx looked up and jumped backwards to evade the attack. Then, the next second, the wolf came behind him with its claws aiming for his head, but he managed to duck and dodge the huge paw.
Afterward, he looked at the wolf and yelled.
"Restrain!" He said.
And the wolf stopped moving.
"So this is my Legacy!" Aryx exclaimed and laughed.
He walked closer to the monster and held its leg. Then he spoke once more.
"Break," he uttered.
And the wolf let out a screeching sound as it felt pain from the part that Aryx touched. It wanted to howl, but it couldn’t open its mouth. The only thing that moved were its eyes.
"This power is absurd," Aryx said, and an evil grin appeared on his face.
The next second, he summoned an ember of flame into his hand and let it burn the wolf’s fur. However, the silhouette of the fire died, as frost blocked it from reaching the monster’s body.
Aryx knitted his brows as he saw the resistance of the creature, but it didn’t last long as an idea formed inside his mind.
"Set ablaze!" He exclaimed, and fire appeared out of nowhere, engulfing the entire body of the wolf.
Then he stared at the monster while smiling, but as he remembered his comrades who died due to the monster, his smile vanished, and with a single word, he ended its life and suffering.
"Explode," he said.
The wolf’s burned body created an explosion large enough to create several shockwaves. It destroyed a part of the ground, and pieces of flesh began to rain down in the forest.
Zeno nodded with satisfaction upon witnessing the scene before him. He even clapped to show his appreciation.
"That’s quite satisfying to watch," he said before walking towards the man.
"Now that the wolf is dead, can we proceed with the payment?" He added, grinning.
Aryx glanced at the silver-haired man, and as Zeno reached just a few meters away from him, the mercenary spoke.
"Stop right there," he said, his voice filled with authority.
Zeno lost the ability to move; he experienced the same thing that happened to the wolf a few moments ago. He tried to speak, but he felt like something was binding his whole body, preventing him from moving even an inch.
So he just stared at the human; his eyes were asking for a reason regarding his action.
"I’m very thankful for what you did, but the outcome of this battle made me change my mind. With this Legacy, I can climb to the top, or maybe I can even join the hero’s party and get recognized in the whole world," Aryx stated.
"Don’t worry, I don’t have any intention to kill you; the effects of my ability will disappear once I leave this place. Just forget what happened here and move on," he added.
Then he started walking towards his weapon, still struck on the ground. He picked it up and looked at the silver-haired man once more.
"I’ll get going," he said before turning around to leave.
However, as soon as he took a step, he felt a strong amount of energy raging behind him.
"Don’t waste your strength; my words are absolute," Aryx said.
Then he looked back and watched the man struggle to move. However, several seconds passed, and still nothing happened. He smiled.
"I-It’s t-tough," Zeno stuttered before a smile curled on his lips little by little.
He retracted his energy, and as soon as Aryx saw this, he thought that the man had given up at last.
"Great, at least you know how to surrender," he said.
However, as Zeno conveyed a name inside his head, the red dice on his ear emitted light.
Afterward, the surrounding area became vague from Aryx’s perspective; he tried to blink his eyes, but his vision remained the same. Then he heard footsteps coming closer to him.
"That’s annoying," Zeno said.
"To think that I’ve needed to use this Legacy just to deal with a mere human like you," he added.
Aryx saw an image of a man walking towards him, and it made him feel uneasy.
"H-How?" He asked, wanting to know the reason why the man managed to move.
"Hey, have your parents not told you to keep promises?" Zeno answered, ignoring the man’s question.
Aryx stepped backward and yelled.
"Stop!" He exclaimed.
"Don’t come near me!" He added.
But upon seeing that the silhouette kept moving in his direction, he fell to his knees.
"Why? Why is it not working again?" He asked.
Zeno heard him clearly, but he stayed silent about the reason; instead, he spoke with a tone filled with disgust and disappointment.
"You’re the type of people I hate the most, opportunists, as they call them," he said.
"N-No, w-wait! I can explain," Aryx pleaded.
But Zeno ignored his words and tossed the black dice mid-air, and then a jet-black scythe fell on his hand. The next second, he swung the its blade, aiming for the man’s neck.
Aryx’s head dropped and rolled on the snow while his body fell slowly to the ground.
"Your Legacy is so unique and tempting, but the idea of thinking of your name every time I want to use it makes me sick," he uttered as he caught the small particle of white light heading to the red dice dangling from his ear.
Then he stared at it for a moment before putting it in his mouth.
"Even your soul tastes nasty," he said.

A few hours later, Kizeler woke up with pain coming from all over his body. He was lying on the ground, and the moment he looked at his side, the wall of ice was still right there. Then he looked at his hands and gulped upon seeing that they were covered with blood and had plenty of wounds.
"I’m still alive; how come?" He uttered while doing his best to stand up.
"Don’t be surprised; after all, pathetic fools like you are not that easy to die," Zeno replied.
He was lying on a tree branch a few meters away from the human.
Meanwhile, Kizeler ignored his teasing and asked about the situation of the mercenaries.
"Dead, all of them, like what I’ve told you," Zeno answered.
Upon hearing the demon’s answer, he felt dismayed, but it only lasted for a few seconds as he looked at Zeno and kneeled all of a sudden.
"Please teach me!" He said.
