The Demon King's First General
Chapter 68: Your Acting Is Terrible

Chapter 68: Your Acting Is Terrible

The moon was already dazzling brightly up above the sky, yet Zeno was still nowhere near his destination. Every time he let out a deep breath, water vapor came out of his mouth due to the chilling temperature.

The coldness of the surroundings was enough to freeze every living creature present in the area and turn them into frozen statues. Despite all of this, the demon was walking without any complaints. He was keeping himself warm by emitting a portion of his energy and using it as a barrier against the cold. He kept circulating it around his whole body. It looked simple and easy to do, but it took a lot of concentration to maintain it while moving. On the other hand, to make it not that complicated, he could emit energy in a continuous manner to repel the chilling temperature; however, it would cause him to burn a lot of energy before arriving at the frozen lake.

Zeno halted on his steps and looked around him. It was nighttime, yet all the things he was seeing had a touch of white. The darkness was nothing compared to the millions of snowflakes.

"Hmnn, I can’t really travel in peace," he uttered with a trace of displeasure on his face.

’Though that’s weird, it’s with a human,’ he thought.

Then he glanced towards the large pine tree on his right.

"Should I scare them a little?" He uttered and smiled like a maniac.

The next second, he walked in the direction of the tree and pretended that he didn’t sense them at all. Then he levitated up in the most careful manner to not produce any sound as he sat on one of the branches.

From there, she saw a woman hiding behind the tree. She was sitting on the shoulders of a huge, white, hairy monster. Then, the woman and the monster peeked at the side of the tree and were surprised upon noticing that the man they were tailing was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Zeno hung himself down, using his legs as an anchor in the tree branch. His face was only a few inches away from the back of the woman’s head.

"Where did he go?" She asked.

The hairy creature shook its head while raising its hand. Then, the moment they reverted their heads, the woman’s eyes widened upon seeing a face hanging upside down in front of her. She screamed at the top of her lungs and fell off the yeti’s shoulder.

"Ouch, my butt," she whispered.

She landed with her back into the thick pile of snow and glared at the man, who was now sitting again above the tree branch while the monster helped her stand.

The woman had denim-colored hair, while her left eye, which was a shade of cerise, was the only one visible due to her hairstyle. The countless strands of her hair obstructed her right eye.

"Don’t scare me like that!" She nagged as soon as she stood up and shook some snowflakes from her clothes.

But Zeno showed no expression while staring at her.

’A Legacy to tame monsters,’ he thought as soon as he glanced at the woman’s soul.

The woman raised her arm, blushing, as soon as she saw the man staring at her chest. Even though she was wearing a parka, she felt that the man’s gaze could see through it, and this made her uneasy.

"Disgusting! Where are you staring at?" She yelled.

And upon seeing Zeno keep his eyes on her body, she hid behind the monster alongside her and poked out her head.

"Hey, are you even listening?" She shouted again in the hope of garnering the man’s attention.

However, Zeno stayed silent, and the chilling wind came, gusting, which made the woman quiver in cold before pulling the hood of her jacket.

Afterward, she hugged herself to add warmth to the frigid temperature. Then she glanced at the man still sitting on the tree branch.

’How come he’s not freezing in that kind of clothing?’ She thought.

"Are you not bothered by this weather condition?" She asked, curious.

And at long last, Zeno gave out a reply, though he ignored her question and asked instead.

"Why are you keeping an eye on me?" He asked without any hint of emotion.

The woman let out an awkward smile and turned around to leave. However, Zeno stood up and leaped in front of her, blocking her path to escape.

"Ahmnn, n-nothing," she stuttered while holding the fur of the huge creature.

The next second, Zeno stepped a little closer and spoke.

"Enough with the foolish act; state your reason..." He paused and raised his palm, which had a black dice spinning on top of it. Then, as soon as the surface with five white dots glowed, it transformed into a jet-black scythe.

Afterward, he hung it on his right shoulder and resumed speaking.

"Or I’ll dye this snow red with you and your pet’s blood," he said.

. . . . .

"Have you heard about the news?" A man asked before lifting a cup of tea and taking a sip on it.

He had several golden piercings on his right ear, and his light brown hair was tied into a bun at the top of his head.

"About what?" Answered a woman who was lying on a couch.

Her denim-colored hair was loose and scattered on the armrest. On her hand, there was a voodoo doll with a single strand of yellowish hair.

"Celestine’s defeat and Alisteine’s death," the man replied after putting back the cup of tea on a mini table at his side.

The woman sat down and faced the man as soon as she heard him.

"Celestine? The Enchantress of Time was defeated in a battle; are you sure about that?" She asked while staring at him, and the surprised look on her face was asking for details.

"The leader confirmed the dark elf’s death while Celestine was forced into a corner. Strannard managed to save her in time from the hands of the same man who killed Alisteine," the man said while looking straight at the woman’s black almond eyes.

The woman leaned her back into the couch and looked into the ceiling.

"Alisteine was not good in combat, so that was a given, but Celestine, I can’t imagine that despicable witch losing in a battle," she uttered.

"Now, I’m interested in the man you’re talking about," she added, and she licked her lips afterward.

Then the man took another sip of tea when the woman spoke again.

"I almost forgot to tell you; a letter arrived yesterday," she said.

The man answered as soon as he put down the cup and took a few gulps.

"And the content?" He asked.

"There will be a gathering in a few days from now. He is summoning us, all the group members," the woman replied as she raised the voodoo doll up in the air.

"Hmnn, it’s quite a surprise. Maybe it’s because of Alisteine’s death," he said and glanced at the hands that were playing the ugly puppet.

The woman shook her head and answered. "I think the topic will be regarding our progress in searching for the keys."

The man nodded and stood up from his seat. He went into the window and glanced at the surroundings outside, filled with snow.

"So we must prepare to get punished. After all, we’re still searching for that item," he said.

Despite his words, the woman laughed, and it captured the man’s attention, making his eyes glance at her.

"But still, I can’t wait to see Celestine’s face once I tease her about her defeat," she said.

Then she placed her hand at the voodoo doll’s neck and choked it for seconds before twisting its head bit by bit. Afterward, a scream echoed below the building they were in, and the man returned his gaze outside the window. He observed the constant falling of snowflakes while thinking about a single thing inside his head.

’A gathering of lunatics. It will be a lie if I say that I’m not quite excited,’ he thought.

. . . . .

"Y-You’re mistaken! I-I s-swear, I-I don’t intend any harm," the woman stuttered as she shook her head upon hearing Zeno’s threat.

"I-I was on my way home when I noticed you walking straight in the direction of the lake," she added.

"And starting from that onward, you kept on following me," Zeno chimed in as soon as the woman finished her sentence.

"T-that’s... T-that’s because of your charisma... Y-Your good looks will be a waste if I let you die in that frozen place," the woman replied, blushing.

Zeno swung the scythe, and it produced a high-pitched sound, and he pointed it at the woman in front of him.

"I’m not buying it," he replied.

Then the yeti dashed and attacked him all of a sudden.

"No! Don’t!" The woman yelled to stop the creature, but it was too late to do so.

The creature’s head rolled into the snow, and its blood tainted the white surroundings as soon as Zeno swirled his scythe, beheading the white, hairy monster.

"I’ll give you another chance; why are you keeping an eye on me?" He repeated his question from before, but this time, his tone was a lot colder.

The woman froze the moment she saw what happened to the monster beside her. She wanted to run, but her knees were now shaking. Then she summoned her strength to look at the man in front of her. Signs of teardrops were evident from the corner of her eyes.

She stared at Zeno for several seconds, and the moment a single tear fell on her cheek, a grin started to blossom from her lips.

"Why didn’t you believe me even once?" She said.

Then she removed her thick clothing, which revealed a part of her skin and a black sleeveless shirt.

"Simply because... Your acting is terrible," Zeno said.
